Family wedding next year.. seen this dress online that I love....

Would I be unreasonable to think this is ok for a wedding guest? Or is it too bridesmaidy?

That one is lovely.
The first dress is nice too, though the back ruined it I think.
No problem with it being attention seeking , just check it doesn't match with the bridesmaids colours.

Butmaaaaam · 19/08/2024 22:13

MN is bonkers at times. I wouldn’t look twice at someone wearing this dress.

i think it’s pretty enough but certainly not too much or attention seeking.

Way too attention seeking.

I agree. Totally unsuitable for a wedding.

Oh don't start. You know full well. The first thing you said on this post was "in my circle she would be laughed at"

You then denied you said it. You then quoted your own post saying exactly that and backtracked saying you mean everyone in your circle did it but absolutely not you and then insinuated that I was lying, despite you quoting your own post saying your circle laughed at women dressed like after saying you never said that.

Own your behaviour. And more importantly, stop denying you've said something when it's here in black and white.

You misunderstood, I explained what I meant, you don't believe me, oh well 🤷

ChanelBoucle · 19/08/2024 22:05

I’m on the fence on this one. It’s a great colour and looks nice from the front but I dunno… the back is just a bit nineties club wear for a wedding. You’d also need perky boobs, zero back fat and a nice tan to carry it off as well as the model. If you do wear it to a church ceremony you will need a cardi or blazer over the top IMO.

Dotto · 19/08/2024 21:49

What are you going on about?

Nonsense.

I alsoove you've accused me of making things up then you've literally quoted your own quote that you said you didn't say 😂oopsie!

What are you going on about?

Dotto · 19/08/2024 21:49

YellowphantGrey · 19/08/2024 21:43

I'm not needling you, I'm.simply pointing out something you've said, which are you are now furiously backpeddling on and trying to imply you didn't say it and then further trying to say you didn't mean what you said.

At least own your behaviour. Not stopping the laughing means you accept it.

Pardon?

PurpleFlower1983 · 19/08/2024 21:46

It’s lovely! I think you should get it!

SeeTheWorldAnotherWay · 19/08/2024 21:46

Beautiful dress! I would have had no issue with someone wearing this at my wedding. Enjoy!

YellowphantGrey · 19/08/2024 21:44

Dotto · 19/08/2024 21:35

Please stop needling me and making stuff up, it's boring. I can tell you what I meant until I'm blue in the face, but you seem to be enjoying choosing to believe something else. Good evening.

You said

"In my circles she would be laughed at"

You're in your circle so therefore would be laughing at her. Even if you don't, you still think it's acceptable behaviour because you clearly don't do anything to stop it because you talk like it's expected and acceptable.

Come on, assuming you're a woman, be better!!

Mayorhumdinger19 · 19/08/2024 21:34

Gorgeous from the front. Not too sure about the back, looks cheap, I think it’d be hellishly uncomfortable to wear all day and into the evening. You’ll end up with welts!

YellowphantGrey · 19/08/2024 21:33

Dotto · 19/08/2024 21:22

I literally didn't. You can go back yourself and see that I said :

"Only OP knows her own circles. In mine a guest wearing that would be laughed at"

Whilst I couldn't care less if you think I'm lying, I wasn't actually referring to myself or my social circle. Weddings are famously known as multi-generational affairs, and whilst neither me or my friends would choose personally to wear a dress like this (it's just not our taste), I know that many of the older generation, or the less worldly-wise in my backwater family circles would be commenting and laughing up their sleeves, wrongly obviously.

Whilst people shouldn't worry what people think about them, OP must have asked for opinions in Aibu, for a reason.

Leafygreen84 · 19/08/2024 21:30

It’s gorgeous. Nothing wrong with the back, also since when’s it been attention seeking to look nice? Most people responding here are wearing grumpy flowery dresses from Bon marche for weddings, don’t let their opinion put you off.

daisybloom · 19/08/2024 21:25

This is gorgeous and totally fine for a wedding in this day and age.

See the other thread about most on Mumsnet taking wedding style from Four Weddings and Funeral...

MeinKraft · 19/08/2024 21:24

Dotto · 19/08/2024 09:54

Unless the wedding is in a swimming pool or on a beach, I think this would look odd, even for bridesmaids. But then I'd have pervy uncle Derek to contend with so...

It's not even that it's backless for me. It's the weird flamenco style ruffle 😬

ciaopizza · 19/08/2024 21:23

Depends how flashy the wedding is!

Twilightstarbright · 19/08/2024 21:23

I wore something similar to a wedding on Saturday- most of my friends were wearing similar in terms of flesh in show. Fancy London venue. All had jackets/wraps/cardigans on for the ceremony then took them off after dinner.

its a beautiful dress. Maybe not for church but I can’t see the issue.

You literally said you and your social circle would laugh at someone wearing this dress.

Why are you lying about it now and denying you said? Or were you hoping more people on here would join in on an online session of laughing at the dress with you?

Some wedding dresses are backless so why are they appropriate in a church but a guests dress isn't?

Agree. I wore a backless dress to both my church and synagogue marriage services. God doesn’t give a shit what people wear to his house, he’s got way more important things to think about!

YellowphantGrey · 19/08/2024 21:06

Dotto · 19/08/2024 21:02

Nobody has "called me out". I have never behaved in such a way and nor have my friends, unfortunately my point has missed you entirely.
