Really weird stuff people do that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Someone I know puts hotel TV remotes in plastic bags before using them, because she once heard a standup comedian talking about men wanking on them while watching porn.

WTAF?

What weird things do people you know do that make absolutely no sense at all? Anything as odd as that?

If there was a thunder storm my dad used to switch off and/or unplug everything electrical, including the lights, and then we'd all sit there in the dark waiting for the storm to pass.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard in my life.

Well, you started the thread. Do I win a prize?

Seems a bit pointless doing it like that. If you get home and change in the house then you could have already brought in the bed bugs .
I'm waiting for someone to say they have a decontamination chamber on the drive .

Wait, what you mean you don't have a decontamination tent on your drive !
How are you still alive ?
I am trying to get everyone on my road to get together and pay for one at each end of the road so everyone that walks along our road is clean 🤣🤣🤣

There could be bed bugs on your jeans. Best to change into home clothes when u come home.

Exactly. Unless you throw them in the wash right away, it makes no difference if you change out of them or not.
The idea that bed bugs come from outdoors is also wrong. Bed bugs can only live for a short time outdoors. They are indoor pests.

Yes, I change when I get home (within reason). If I'm not leaving again, I change into my house clothes. If I anticipate leaving later on or if I'm doing cooking, then I may not change right away.

Good God no! That would be the ideal way to spread bed bugs. Just no! Don't sit on your bed with outside clothes. This is basic stuff.

Bed bugs come from indoors, not outdoors. It's possible to have them get in your jeans if you sit on somebody else's furniture who had an infestation, but still unlikely. Usually they come back with you from your travels, through things you buy (usually used, but sometimes new) or get in your home because a neighbour is infested.

Are you saying ‘yes’ because you have to repeatedly change, or ‘yes’ because you agree with the question being asked. Ie. Do you have to change?

I wish it were.

You get staff in cafes who stroke dogs and then go back behind the counter and start handling food and don't bother to wash their hands. My mum said she once said something to a staff member when she did it and she thought my mum was mad to care. I think my mum walked out without ordering.

I haven't got that many years left to me!

I'll take my chances with the invisible bed bugs.

Fair enough. To each their own.

But what about if you have to go out again but might need to sit on the bed in the interim? Are you going to change clothes on and off, like the hokey cokey all evening?

Yes!

We always had hot milk in Weetabix when I was a child. My DH thought that was batshit!

I don't like Weetabix with cold milk. Always has to be hot milk

beetr00 · 24/08/2024 18:58

@MintyNew some info.

Some consumers may wash or rinse their raw meat or poultry because it’s a habit or because a family member they trust has always washed their meat. USDA research has found that washing or rinsing meat or poultry increases the risk for cross-contamination in the kitchen, which can cause foodborne illness.

I’ve just looked up photos of bed bug bites. I’m fairly certain I’ve never succumbed so I think the risk is minuscule, and certainly not worth worrying about.

i’ve just been out walking the dog, came in and ate my tea as dh had cooked it, so sat on the dining room chairs and now the sofa, still wearing my walking trousers. In all honesty, it he has never, ever occurred to be that I could be at risk from bed bugs (and I’m still not worried now).

Angrymum22 · 24/08/2024 18:41

My next door neighbour dries his garage door with a t towel after it rains. He uses an extending brush to clean his state dish weekly. And has a special nailbrush he uses to clean bird muck off his drive.
He is seriously weird.
We recently caught him pushing dirty tissues into one of our low growing conifers ( we have open plan front gardens.
We recently did a big tidy up and found loads of tissues. The Ring doorbell gave him away. I had assumed that the regular tissues we were finding in the front garden were down to the wind, but no it was the weirdo next door placing them carefully in our garden after using them to clean bird shit off his car.
I have confronted him about it but he claims I’m being unneighbourly by collecting the tissues up and leaving them on his drive.

We used to have it dry with butter and honey on. I think that's a bit odd, looking back .

I saw similar in a toilet in Sainsbury's. Came out of cubicle to witness the woman next to me, flush the toilet and head straight out of the door. She had on a Sainsbury's staff uniform and went back to her post - behind the deli counter. Not only disgustingly unhygenic but it amazed me that she simply had no shame, to do this infront of me, a customer!

I was in Morrisons yesterday and popped to the loo.

There was a lady there with a boy of about 7, she stood behind him but with the cubicle door open as he went to the toilet, which seemed odd to start with.

When he was finished they both walked straight out without any attempt at hand washing.

It's like people learned nothing about hand hygiene during covid.
