Just an observation, out for dinner with friends last Saturday night. We got taxis in, we always had a booze fest but now my friends have either cut out alcohol completely or stuck to one glass of wine or gin & tonic! Is alcohol going out of fashion in over 40, middle class circles or is it just my friends?

I think as you age the way your body processes alcohol changes. My tolerance is fine but my sleep and hangovers are terrible that it’s just not worth it for me any more and so have to drink like a grown up now.
However, we all still like to have a drink rather it not be fashion thing

Just want to say I do notice the effects in my 40s in particular my sleep but I do enjoy a couple of drinks per week!

I think you are right, I still enjoy a few drinks & felt uncomfortable ordering a third class of wine!

I've noticed this. I know tons of people who no longer drink. They were drinking during lockdown - I think this change has been since then. As you get older you tend to find alcohol affects you a bit differently, but I think there's more to it than that. It's certainly really acceptable to not drink when you're middle-aged - not sure whether that used to be the case.
