Mr Blippi Creepy Energy Confirmed With Horrible Past Career

Members of my family expressed unease with Mr Blippi a grown man in tight trousers and braces talking in a baby voice and walking children through playgrounds and spaces, talking to camera. I also felt this instinctively, something was off about it and tried to redirect my kid's attention away but the kid is hooked. Heavily branded (toys, games, you name it) it turns out he has a degree in marketing and used to put the vilest videos online as a character called Steezy Grossman, involving naked men and his own feces. He's worked hard to try and hide this part of his past, but what gets me the most is that his background is in marketing and search engine optimisation, not in education. He has no idea how to behave around kids and even before I knew a single thing about him, his show seems off to me. Look at how many times he spells out his name to children to memorise, or tells them to say his name over and over again as they wash their hands. He's feeding off our kids, admittedly all entertainment is doing that to some extent, but in this case, there's little else to it. It's parasitic and unwholesome.

Just dont watch him then....

KimKardashiansLostEarring · 14/08/2024 12:39

You’re acting like you’re breaking some earth shattering news. Life tip: you’re not always the first person to hear of stuff.

Yeah, he has an insincere, dead-behind-the-eyes quality to him. I wouldn't be surprised if he's never even met a child either that or he has an unhealthy interest and he just thought he could make lots of money. And he was right. When I heard about his earlier stunts I was only surprised and relieved it wasn't something worse, tbh.

Yep.

Plus he talks in my husbands sarcastic voice so not great for me!

SnapdragonToadflax · 14/08/2024 12:38

I think everyone already knows this already? I've seen multiple threads over the years. Yes he is a bit odd, definitely not a natural with children but the same applies to Mr Tumble. There's a fake Blippi now, who's even less entertaining. I don't think some gross-out humour early on in his career suggests anything more than him being a bit desperate. He's doubtless not squeaky-clean in real life, but I'm sure if there was anything worse it would have been found by now.

Can't stand Peppa Pig myself, that was banned in our house. She's so rude.

Almost all small children programs are garbage. It doesn't bother me that as an adult, with other consenting adults, he made legal videos for adults.

Wish Bluey was around when ds1 was that age, although I got to watch with ds2.

I can remember Blippi being painful to watch/listen to, but so was Bing. Night Garden had its moments too (tiddles anyone? And Upsy Daisy scuttling around the woods with her skirt lifted...)

Steer them heavily towards Hey Duggee and hope for the best.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/08/2024 12:25

The Halloween song is very catchy though. Its worth a search on YT

HappierTimesAhead · 14/08/2024 12:18

We don't do YouTube anymore and stick to Peppa and Peter Rabbit

Those are winners!! And Paddington bear, the intro is the best 😂 my 6 month old only watches that part.

StressyDepressy · 14/08/2024 12:24

Aren’t there multiple Blippis? I thought he retired or got a stand in etc.

I’m off to google, wish me luck …

spongelover · 14/08/2024 12:24

Wow scary! I've been singing "fire truck" in my head all morning lol!
Thanks for posting this, I'm going to look more into it

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/08/2024 12:23

Ds used to.watch him when he was a toddler and ive read about his adult stuff on here before.Nothing surprises me

Conkersinautumn · 14/08/2024 12:23

So ..... the average famous person selling a brand and aiming at a certain demographic? Nothing unusual there about TV and even more so online. Its all for selling something.

jen337 · 14/08/2024 12:22

He’s annoying/weird as fuck and I’m glad my kids are too old for that type of stuff. Also coco melon when I hear it reminds me of the stories of Guantanamo inmates being psychologically tortured by the Barney the dinosaur song.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 14/08/2024 12:18

I have blocked blippi from our Netflix for being too annoying for me to bear, but a presenter of a children's tv show not having a background in education isn't surprising. I wouldn't expect them to. Even if it was the world's most educational show, he would still just be reading a script.

HappierTimesAhead · 14/08/2024 12:18

We don't do YouTube anymore and stick to Peppa and Peter Rabbit

HappierTimesAhead · 14/08/2024 12:16

Yeah, always found him weird and heard the 'poo' rumour. There is a different Blippi now though (as in different 'actor' - using that word lightly)

wtfissummer · 14/08/2024 12:16

YABU

Or maybe. YANBU

no idea what the question is though

honkifyalikebeans · 14/08/2024 12:15

I thought this was all well known? It's been public information for years

KreedKafer · 14/08/2024 12:14

I just googled him, having no idea who he was.

No, he isn’t a trained educator, he is - like all TV presenters - a performer. The people on kids’ TV aren’t teachers. They’re actors, mostly. Surely you knew that? He’s literally just an entertainer and doesn’t claim to be anything else. He’s basically singing songs for preschoolers, as far as I can see.

What does it matter if he has a marketing degree? He has a kids’ YouTube channel which he apparently runs. Obviously he will have marketing expertise.

He did, apparently, make ‘gross-out’ or ‘shock’ videos under a different name many years ago. That doesn’t mean anything. No child could find that content. It wasn’t a sexual thing, either. More like Jackass or ‘The Hopefuls’ on The Word where people used to do gross things to get onto telly.

silverhamster · 14/08/2024 12:08

For those who don't know, he does kids shows on YouTube

Eg

I'm so glad my sons are adults now. Teletubbies drove me damned near insane. If I had to deal with this shit I'd chuck myself off something.

MyCleverGrayBear · 14/08/2024 12:12

Don't let your children watch him then. My children only watched CBeebies until they were about 6 and then they started watching some of the younger CBBC stuff too. Bit of Thomas the Tank Engine and Peppa Pig. Parents can just turn this crap off. Get rid of YouTube and netflix and bingo! Done.

ThisKookyBlueSnake · 14/08/2024 12:10

No more creepy than peewee herman.

OhmygodDont · 14/08/2024 12:10

That’s not new news though…
