Mr Blippi Creepy Energy Confirmed With Horrible Past Career

Members of my family expressed unease with Mr Blippi a grown man in tight trousers and braces talking in a baby voice and walking children through playgrounds and spaces, talking to camera. I also felt this instinctively, something was off about it and tried to redirect my kid's attention away but the kid is hooked. Heavily branded (toys, games, you name it) it turns out he has a degree in marketing and used to put the vilest videos online as a character called Steezy Grossman, involving naked men and his own feces. He's worked hard to try and hide this part of his past, but what gets me the most is that his background is in marketing and search engine optimisation, not in education. He has no idea how to behave around kids and even before I knew a single thing about him, his show seems off to me. Look at how many times he spells out his name to children to memorise, or tells them to say his name over and over again as they wash their hands. He's feeding off our kids, admittedly all entertainment is doing that to some extent, but in this case, there's little else to it. It's parasitic and unwholesome.

Do you not think you should have put in a wee bit more context, it's like assuming we all know what you are talking about!

ClassicStripe · 14/08/2024 13:14

My DS is going through a blippi era. I don't get the hate. It isn't particularly offensive. I do miss the Danny Go days. He's a bit easier in the eye at 6am.

MillshakePickle · 14/08/2024 13:11

Found his show on prime years ago when dc1 was little. Watched half an episode and then banned Blippi along with YouTube kids. Dc1 just kept whinging and whining to watch him, even though, we watched maybe 7 mins. It went on for ages.

Some kids TV is absolutely toxic

Noshowlomo · 14/08/2024 13:10

Wasn’t all this found out years ago?
There is a different Blippy now. They’re both annoying as shit (see what I did there)

Meh, he’s not that bad. A lot of his content is exploring outdoors, playgrounds/soft play, quite a few are educational ‘will this item sink or float’, vehicles. He sings songs, emphasises safety. It’s the opposite of toxic masculinity and nice for children to see represented.

I loved the one where he toured the chocolate factory.

The one where he is a handyman for DeeDee is hilarious with a nod to a porn genre for the parents to laugh at. But nothing inappropriate for children:

Agreed. He’s also a veteran, served in the US air force.

Catpuss66 · 14/08/2024 13:07

Based on the YT video posted, he is no different to many children tv presenters, many of us from the 60’s &70’s watched play school same sort of thing. Now in my 50’s not sure play school damaged me beyond repair. Only now as an adult do we get the innuendo that was in captain pugwash, & magic roundabout but as a child they were loved programmes.

HotCrossBunplease · 14/08/2024 13:06

He’s not called “Mr Blippi” It’s just “Blippi”.
At least get the name of the character right before you assassinate him.

This is old, old news and wasn’t even very scandalous at the time. He’s not exactly Huw Edwards.

I like the clips where he rides round ice rinks on the Zamboni. I learned everything I know about Zambonis from him!

My son has moved on now to Stampy Longnose. I await your post slagging him off in about 4 years’ time.

Bubbleplumb · 14/08/2024 13:06

This is old news .... Has no bearing on the Blippi Character

Oh wow I always thought he was a wrong un

paristotokyo · 14/08/2024 13:04

I DESPISE his videos, like it actually makes me want to throw something. My son used to like them as he was exposed to them at my mums house which I promptly banned. I tried to block all his content off the YouTube kids app but they kept appearing in different ways. I don't allow YouTube at all now

EatTheGnome · 14/08/2024 13:03

You know as a parent you can just say no and own the decision. We make loads of unpopular decisions and our kid still loves us.

MrsSunshine2b · 14/08/2024 13:02

I banned it the first time I saw it, the whole set up just gave me the heebie jeebies.

Tiredalwaystired · 14/08/2024 13:01

Big Cook Little Cook ad captain DJ from CBeebies all did adult comedy as well as kids tv.

Just not at the same time.

Most tv characters are performers first and foremost.

Not related to Blippi but if anyone is looking for a new show for their kids the Storybots franchise on Netflix is awesome. I have a 6 year old daughter who loves it and has learned all sorts of weird and wonderful things from it.

That's a lot of words to say a) this fella made stupid videos for an adult genre of comedy that I don't particularly like either when he was younger and b) you don't think men should be involved in children's entertainment.

My kids don't watch blippi, thankfully, but if yours do and you don't like it, spend less time rambling on here and more time parenting them.

BloodyHellBob · 14/08/2024 12:44

I didn't mind the original Blippi but Mr Tumble definitely gave me the skin crawls, he gives off a vibe (to me) that suggests he doesn't really like kids.

Boopbeepbeepboop · 14/08/2024 12:43

I thought the poo thing with blippi was well known.
He's annoying as anything but any worse than cocomelon or similar? Nobody needs to be an eductor to be an entertainer though. If you don't like him, do what we do, don't watch.

icebearforpresident · 14/08/2024 12:41

This came out donkeys years ago! My kids are too old for Blippi now but from what I have seen I think the original Blippi/Steezey stepped aside after it was discovered and someone else is playing the character now.

Greenbananasoup · 14/08/2024 12:41

I don’t mind him 🤷‍♀️ and I’ve seen the video, which was just so ridiculous it actually made me laugh. He’s no going to shite on your kids, relax

NotSayingImBatman · 14/08/2024 12:40

Are you new to the internet? This has been common knowledge since about 7 minutes after Blippi took off.
