TW - Upsetting information: XL Bully attack *edited by MNHQ

Another xl bully attack, this time it was in my home town last week.
An xl bully ran out of the house down the road and attacked the nearest dog it saw a little dauchshund ripping both its legs off, it took 4 men and two women to get the xl bully off the other dog. The other little dog is alive thanks to the bravery of other people there at the time , however it had to have both legs ( what was left of them ) amputated.
Its extremely sad. The owner of the dauchshund is an elderly lady who was out walking the little dog ans she is utterly traumatised as expected.
The dog has been seized and owners will be prosecuted we have been told.
The reason I'm posting this is because I feel prosecution and dog being seized hasnt really solved anything has it? What is being done to prevent what happened in the first place? Nothing?? These dogs are still attacking / killing animals and children/ adults
Am I being unreasonable in thinking enough isnt being done to get rid of these hurrendous dogs?????

Love dogs, but these monsters should be outlawed, by which I mean put down. And the idiotic people : awwww, he/she is a family dog, very sweet. No, just look at it - it was bred for malice, look at the jaws.

"It's not the dog it's the owners."

So? Guns don't kill peoples, people do. Maybe we should allow guns.

I have a lovely pet polar bear. Not aggressive at all. Can I keep him at home? Walk him around my local park? It's not my fault some people aren't nice to their polar bears and make them aggressive.

Or is that different because polar bears haven't been domesticated and bred to live with humans as companions? In that case we are admitting the importance of how dogs have been bred for years. These dogs have specifically been bred to be aggressive fighters.

There's loads of situations we do not allow things, like guns and polar bears, because of the devastation they can cause. It may be true that 99% of people would be responsible but we disallow them anyway so that innocent people don't suffer because of the 1% who would not be responsible.

At this point it's frankly ridiculous that people can walk around with what is a lethal and unpredictable weapon and we just have to hope our children don't get killed because the nice dog owners who just happened to choose an exceptionally dangerous breed as a pet don't think it's fair.

My Labrador has been bred to retrieve. It's in his genes. These fighting-type dogs have been bred to kill. It's in their genes. Saying it's (only) the owners is disingenuous.

Dog on dog attacks are very common but you won’t hear much on them as it’s not usually considered a police matter.

Banning breeds doesn’t work. We’ve had the DDA for over thirty years and dog bites have only gone up.

The way people talk about these dogs, the sheer amount of hate people display towards them is really very sad.

Yeah it's weird that people seem to hate these dogs so much. Almost as if we've been watching almost weekly footage of animals and humans being ripped to shreds by the lovable, misunderstood little creatures. So sad for them.

@FinalInstructionstotheAudience did you read any of the posts about the inescapable genetics involved? The best trainer in the world couldn't eradicate those traits. No argument that the owners are thick as mince (an insult to mince, really) but that's not what makes this type of dog the enormous danger it is.

FinalInstructionstotheAudience · 11/08/2024 05:54

Catsmere · 11/08/2024 05:50

Curious, isn't it ... the apologists for this breed are lamenting how mean and hateful people are towards them. Not a word of regret for the animals and humans they kill and maim. Not a hint of pattern recognition. No, it's people expressing opinions that this type - bred specifically to do this, to be killing machines - are too dangerous to be kept, who are at fault.

Not the dog. The thick as mince owners

Yabu; not enough is being done to deal with the people whose lives are so tiny they thing having such a dog it somehow clever or that they are beating the system by 'proving' how lovable these dogs are.

GSD20 · 11/08/2024 05:42

I work with dangerous dogs. I would say we euthanise at least 1 XL a week for aggression. Last weekend we had 3 that had attacked in separate incidents (things like killing another dog in the home so not reported widely) They have unstable and unpredictable temperaments.

Saying that, it’s almost always the responsible owners making the decision. The irresponsible ones just hide them away or live in denial hoping for the best until it’s too late.

People that can't use paragraphs shouldn't be allowed these dogs. And also neither them, let them die out

EatTheGnome · 10/08/2024 23:53

Ignore the breed a moment.

We're the owners good, responsible people? I'm guessing not. People are a huge part of all problems.

Did you not read the comment before yours?
"And I am so done with the "it's not the breed it's the owner" rhetoric we all get the pleasure of hearing when this topic comes around on some corner of the internet'

DaisyLouB · 11/08/2024 04:18

That poor dachshund and such a terrible event for the owner and public to witness. I find the arrogance of these aggressive dog owners quite infuriating when they naively insist that their dogs wouldn’t hurt anyone and they can trust them, they are a part of the family etc etc. In fact they allow them as we’ve seen in newspapers to be left alone with children who are subsequently attacked/killed. Just because a dog has not attacked in the past, there is absolutely no guarantee it will not attack in the future and they can be so unpredictable that you just don’t know when that time will be, what will trigger the dog to attack.

ShouldIEvenBother · 10/08/2024 23:53

YANBU. And I for one am absolutely terrified of them. That poor little dog and elderly owner - it's just heart-breaking.

And I am so done with the "it's not the breed it's the owner" rhetoric we all get the pleasure of hearing when this topic comes around on some corner of the internet 🙄These particular dogs are something else and absolutely more needs to be done. This situation will not stop anytime soon, I fear. There are certainly more deaths, amputations, and disfigurements to come - we know this is the case.

I absolutely agree with you. Anyone have any experience with dogs well knows that different breeds have different temperments. It's the bad combo of:

Dangerous dog + bad owner = attacks

Heretotalk1207538 · 11/08/2024 04:03

Im not saying when they are bred im talking about incidents that happen to come to the conclusion they are aggressive…how is it all missed? Surely they can be monitored behaviours of a dog

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 11/08/2024 04:00

I think you're not understanding what I'm saying.

There's just some things you can't track on a database, and if they could do that by enforcing mandatory registration of every dog ever, they'd have to have some sort of aggression aptitude test before the puppies left, and even if they did have that they'd have to start culling the ones that failed.

So how we got here was that none of that exists nor is it enforceable and now we're left in a horrible situation where the only solution that can be implemented on a wide scale basis in the interest of public safety is euthanasia as the bills passed to prevent these brutal murders has not worked. Nobody is happy about that. Nobody wants to get mauled when they're walking down the road either.

Heretotalk1207538 · 11/08/2024 03:56

Also they are bred for looks lets say but if they are aggressive no ones going to pick them UNLESS u want an agressive dog for protection….these owners create the bigger problems. Iv seen it for myself these gangs with dogs and filming them fighting the poor dogs! Its just cruel

Heretotalk1207538 · 11/08/2024 03:55

Yes i totally get that and in my opinion its too much money for people to sit at home breed sell these dogs and earn how much per dog? Some over £1000 and the litters are how big? But lets just go back to what ur saying about breeding if it was monitored and tracked and genetics were logged they would know this breed had issues before it got to killing people. This has been known for much longer before now? And its too easy for anyone to be loke right im going to breed dogs and earn x amount because i cba to work. Its just sad and cruel we are at this point for the breed and the dogs that it doesnt apply to. We habe an old eng bulldog hes the same size and an xl bully and just as muscly ppl in the park are scared of him but hes a big softy! If u cant control ur dog dont have it. I cant walk him he drags me so i dont walk him my partner has the strength to control hom…theres the difference

What i mean is how does it get to the stage that the dogs are causing this no matter what breed? how does it get allowed to happen? i have seen these dogs be as tame as anything so im not going to tarnish them
all however their genetic make up when bred wrong and not trained properly makes them
dangerous theres no doubt about that but where does it all start? Its not with the dogs…its with the breeders

Well yes it starts with breeders and lay people that don't have the foggiest clue about genetics.

If I wanted a dog with a round head and I had 2 dogs with slightly roundish heads to breed, they'd have a litter of puppies. Of that litter there might be 2 more puppies there with rounder heads, but one of them has anger issues. Still, I want a breed with a round head so these are my best choice, so I breed them, lo and behold the next litter has 3 with rounder heads, and 2 of them have a genetic behavioural condition. My friend who is hypothetically collaborating with me on this has also done the same thing except now he has 2 males and I have 2 females, I don't know anything about his dogs temperaments, but we don't care about that. We just want the round heads.

We keep going, all this time not having anything past GCSE level biology understanding, and all the while each generation of these dogs is in more pain because of the repositioning of the organs within their face, as well as some other undesirable traits like bowed legs etc, but we don't care about that, we want the round head.

We're 8 generations in now. The gene pool is very condensed, there's been a lot of inbreeding, geriatric breeding and so on but we now have a series of dogs that all have definable characteristics within a margin, they're all 8 foot tall, red, and have got round heads and snaggle teeth. People want them because they're new and novel. They can clearly see that they can't breathe right and their legs bow outwards but they don't care. They buy them.

They paid a lot of money for my new dog breed and they want a piece of that pie. So they get their mate together and they breed their puppies who were actually from consecutive litters to the same parents. The same 2 parents with an attitude problem.

They have a litter of puppies they sell their puppies and then they are mauled to death months later.

Their puppies have matured and gone on to have other puppies. The cycle continues.

Before you know it lots of my 8 foot tall red dogs have killed thousands of people over the years but they are dogs, and nobody ever wants to imagine that a dog could be capable of ruthless and unprovoked attack let alone murder. I mean I didn't breed them to be murderers, I bred them to have round heads, a unique colour and be very tall, they just happen to be murderers so therefore they must just be misunderstood and it must be all the breeders faults.

The truth is sometimes when we play God, we make mistakes because too many people have access to things they can do without the knowledge of what they should do.

There is a lot of eugenics in breeding. It's ethically corrupt, often rushed and there isn't a breed around that doesn't have some sort of health disadvantage due to the way we have changed them. This is usually brachecephalics and breathing or mid to large dogs with hip dysplasia to name a couple.

It is now illegal to breed XL bullies. But that doesn't stop the fact the ones we have now are instinctively dangerous.

Heretotalk1207538 · 11/08/2024 03:50

Iv also witnessed walking in the park and owners with them approach they see how ppl look at them they have to say hes ok hes not vicious etc…even tho hes muzzled..what would u thinkm if a dog was muzzled? That its viscious…when some of them arent

Heretotalk1207538 · 11/08/2024 03:49

i just find it really cruel that every dog has to suffer because of humans. We created this…its become uncontrollable now we kill them…im sorry but ppl have family pets. That are tame as anything…they shouldnt suffer

BossMadam · 11/08/2024 03:46

Heretotalk1207538 · 11/08/2024 03:09

Im not trust me its funny how one incident happens then its all they talk about? What about the other dogs? Are u telling me no other breed has killed someone? Research it. Im not saying these cases arent absoloutely devastating they are…but im saying look into why? The dogs in the wrong 100% look at why? Why does the dog behave like that? Have u seen these youngesters criminals most likely that own these dogs? Have u seen the videos onlien where they make them fight each other? This is animal cruelty? These dogs are bread so that they are big dogs they are muscly big dogs but its down to how u train them. I know a family with two of these dogs and 3 kids!!!! The dogs are as nice as can be!!!! So how can u say its propaganda? The breed isnt the problem
the fucking system is anyone can breed no ones regulated! Some dogs esp bulldogs that were bread in corona a breed that everyone wants if they arent bred correctly iv seen the issues with these dogs the health issues…because they are mix bred. These people know nothing!!! This whole systme is a mess. Yes they shouldnt of happened its not the only dog breed thars donenit. So what about the tame americal xlsnthat now have to wear a muzzle round a park? Why? Its disgusting…its lile branding one group of ppl say terrorists and saying that they are thenissue or one race because of terrorism and they need restrictions? No look at their upbringing look at the history? Dogs dont attack for no reason they feel they are allowed to! If an owner has trained the dog right the dogs not gona even attempt it!!!! Tell me im wrong!!!

Honestly who gives a toss whether it’s the dog or the owner at fault. The fact is these animals have the capability and brute strength to kill adults as well as children and other animals and it is nigh on impossible to stop them. A German Shepherd does not have the jaw or strength to do that. Who cares if some of these dogs are as nice as can be, they can easily turn at any point for any reason because they are ANIMALS, can’t talk to tell you how they feel and that’s that. Anyone having one of them, let alone two, with kids in the home is totally irresponsible and completely brain dead IMO.

There is an Italian guy on TikTok who has a massive bully or pit ball constantly laying in bed with his baby girl, its head is almost as big as her body and he treats it as if it is her brother! lt sleeps with the parents in bed right next to the baby’s cot. All his equally dense followers saying what a lovely brother the dog is. The dog seems to be looked after very well but the baby could easily pull its fur and hurt it or it could turn for whatever reason. She’d be dead in minutes. He’s always touting his book about the dog and the baby trying to make money out of putting his baby in danger. It’s sickening tbh and I really fear for that baby.

quiteinterested · 11/08/2024 03:35

They should all be neutered. Then we have seven years, maximum because they're unhealthy anyway, until they're gone.

You're wrong.

Many XL bullies in this country are very likely related to an XL nicknamed killer kimbo.

I'll let you guess why he's nicknamed that.

When these dogs were being selectively bred by humans the gene pool was condensed and a lot of behavioural issues in this breed of dog are because of the characteristics this dog was bred to have like the bite with a super high pressure and rear facing canines for that slicing action, and an innate lack of freeze or flight fear response, and the standoffish attitude which makes it a perfect status dog. Those behavioural characteristics don't suddenly change if you're an elderly woman altruistically rescuing one, or a mother of young children wanting to show the world that these beasts are loveable giants, or a genuinely good man who tries to see the best in all animals and really deeply to his core believes there are no bad dogs, just bad owners because he bought into Don Bluths all dogs go to heaven a bit too hard during his childhood.

Yes, other dogs have killed. It's true. Some of those dogs were bred for killing, terriers kill rodents, they've killed babies. Other large dogs have shown behavioural issues and their owners have had rose tinted glasses about their behaviour and it turns out they've had brain tumours or their lineage shows an excessive amount of inbreeding. We never have answers for some dogs.

It's not the fact these dogs were lockdown dogs, or that they have bad training. Many of these dogs will have had perfect recall, an affinity for obedience and learning, and have been highly respectful of their own families dynamic... until they weren't.

Once it's in their genetic makeup you can't just train it out of them.

You can't stop pointers pointing or retrievers retrieving, you can't stop XL bullies having the inclination to attack, even if that's not what they were bred for, it's part of them now.

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
