To say 3 year old DC is 2 for free theme park entry?

Toddler has just turned 3 and very small for their age.
we are going to a theme park next week. It's free for age 0-2.

DH says we should say DC is 2 so we don't have to pay for them. We will be paying for ourselves and older children.

Do people do this?

I can see how people get away with it as toddlers tend not to carry ID!

😂

So funny.

<sits on skanky bench with skanky mates>

😂

I’m gutted but I’ve not seen what @herecomesthesunyes has said to me. But it’s obviously so offensive that it was deleted.

(did she call me a skank?! So funny!)

I tend to let the cashier make up their own mind 😂

Or is not really relevant because I take her in with a disabled/carers ticket (fully justified obviously).

She's 5 but is tiny, more like a 3yo, and dwarfed by tall 2yos. On a recent flight I was asked her age in case she needed the baby flotation device (for under 2's 😳).

I'm truthful if asked, but she's often in a pushchair or carried, and if they want to presume she's 3 without checking, not my problem 😜

@BettyBardMacDonald and I am of "good character", so stop your PA comments!

I'm loving your use of "if one" in every orher sentence, it's like talking to Hyacinth Bucket.

So if one thinks that saying a three year old is two is going to have such a negative impact, then one is correct to be cautious. But if one thinks that it's going to make sod all difference to the three year old, then one should not fret too much.

Because you're unlikely to find hair raising rollercoasters anywhere other than a theme park....

So you do agree that they are providing a valuable experience.

But unlike most people you think that you, not the company operating the roller coasters, should get to set the price of that experience by stealing from them?

What if your boss unilaterally decided to steal part of your wages until he got them down to a level he felt equated to your value?

dontstopmenowimhavingagoodtime · 10/08/2024 17:32

@BettyBardMacDonald because the kids love it?

That's why we go, do you have comprehension issues?

You've asked a question, I've answered but you don't seem to understand?

The point that people of good character would comprehend is that if one finds something morally objectionable, one avoids it. Whether or not the "kids love it."

Dramatic · 10/08/2024 17:36

BettyBardMacDonald · 10/08/2024 17:30

So? If you think the company is unprincipled, why not have the integrity to avoid it and find other ways to amuse the kids?

It's wrong though and probably the worst aspect is your child overhearing you lying/stealing.

Oh yeah, my now 32 year old is totally destroyed and unable to know right from wrong, because during his year of being 3, when we went to a theme park (probably once) he heard me say he was 2.

Not sure why I did it, such terrible consequences came from it.

Oh, hang on....

Yeah I've done it and I'd do it again. Not really bothered if people think it's skanky, I think major theme parks are shitty for completing ripping people off so there you go 🤷

Agreed!

When theme parks stop over selling tickets so you have to queue up for hours, effectively wasting time in a day we've paid extortionately for, then I'll start playing 100% fair with them.

It's swings and roundabouts!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 10/08/2024 17:18

People have done this since the beginning of time 🤷‍♀️

This thread reminds me of the only fools and horses episode where Del Boy signs Rodney up to an under 14s drawing competition to get a free holiday 😂 now that would be taking it a bit far 😂

I can cope with a bit of low level theft from companies making millions of pounds, those companies still do very well out of me.

fitzwilliamdarcy · 10/08/2024 16:00

What I’m learning from this and the hotels thread is that a LOT of parents are dishonest and see no issue with theft.

The next gen of kids becoming adults will be fun!

Yep, you nailed it.

It's really sad that people don't aspire to integrity and good character, but just how to rake in as much for themselves as possible, honesty be damned.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/08/2024 15:47

I don't think saying a three year old is two when they'll have exactly the same impact on the event regardless is that same as stealing items from a supermarket.

No I didn’t think you would

BettyBardMacDonald · 10/08/2024 16:32

Ratfinkstinkypink · 10/08/2024 16:04

I often ask if my four year old can go in to soft play as an under 2, there is absolutely nothing he can access in most days out type places as, although he's four, developmentally he's unable to sit unaided and has only just started to roll. I am sure people will say I could just not take him places but we still have friends who's kids can do what other young children can do and we like to go along to socialise. He usually just sits in his wheelchair. Most theme parks don't cater for kids like him so we don't go.

I don't think anyone would begrudge this, and one key difference is that YOU ask, you aren't trying to scam the establishment. I hope your son enjoys those outings to the fullest!

BettyBardMacDonald · 10/08/2024 16:30

Agree, @CoffeeGood

There seems to be a trend of people who aren't willing to live within their means finding ways to justify stealing from "the man" in order to get what they want.

The number of children one chooses to produce, relative to one's income, is a choice that does have consequences. Maybe that means fewer visits to theme parks or fewer holidays because hotel rooms are costly. Those are the breaks.

Lying, cheating and stealing is not a moral or admirable way to stretch one's budget. Training one's children to do so is despicable.

Large corporations aren't evil for setting prices at a level that generates profits. Shareholders, including most average people whose pensions are invested in the stock market, rely on profits to boost the value of their investments.

Anyone who thinks profits are evil should a) not patronize for-profit businesses and b) start a non-profit in your industry of choice, and let us know how that goes.

You absolutely despair?

Really?

Bit OTT!

I do absolutely despair, yes! There is such a casual attitude to theft. Sure, it's low level, but it's STILL cheating the system and people thinking it's okay to do. Where does it end? It would seem only when people don't think they will get away with it anymore, so not a moral choice not to cheat any more.

I am allowed my opinion and allowed to have enough moral fibre to pay what's asked or simply choose not to go if I don't agree, even if that makes me a fool in some people's eyes. However, I don't think I'm special and that the rules don't apply to ME unlike quite a lot of people on here it would seem! I'd be too ashamed, and frightened to be caught out, but hey, you do you and I'll just be an old OTT, boring, rule abiding square. I'm happy in my box. 🙂

Are you paying at the gate, or in advance? I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been truthful about DS being a tad over the age for paying and having it waived. Or even booking everyone else in advance and explaining you need to add it at the gate as you hadn’t clicked she’d just turned 3!

We plan to book online in advance but never thought to do this!

The other advantage of buying online world be avoiding them saying "no mummy I'm 3!" if we were to say they're 2 😂

Yes people do it. Personally I think it’s equivalent to theft and I wouldn’t - I don’t want my kids watching that behaviour and thinking it’s ok to lie for your own financial gain.

This was my initial thought so it didn't occur to me not to pay for them
but it is also true there's a lot they won't be able to go on because of height.

The age 2/3 differential seems quite arbitrary.

I hate when people lie to me so I don’t do it myself. However, I’m not beyond trying to get in with a cheaper ticket! I for example would say ‘2 adults, 2 kids and a toddler’, but if they asked the toddlers age I would be honest and say 3 rather than 2. If they don’t ask then great!

You absolutely should not need to pay at all, I'm hoping at least some soft okay say this? I hope none actually refuse you an under 2 fee?

CoffeeGood · 10/08/2024 14:48

What is wrong with society these days and the amount of MN posters justifying theft? There seems to be a severe lack of moral fibre around! Not paying the correct amount for the age is theft, just like cramming a couple of un-paid for kids into a hotel room.

Theft is theft, no matter how big or small the amount or how big the business is that's on the receiving end. If this is okay, where is the line when it becomes not okay? I absolutely despair.
