'Sneaking' two extra children into hotel room booked for two adults and two children

AIBU in thinking this may have implications regarding insurance etc?

Friend is off on holiday later today to a large hotel abroad with her DH and four DC aged between 4 and 16. Not a package, no meals included and flights were booked separately.

The room has a small bedroom, bathroom and living area with a sofa bed. It sleeps 4. They've booked it for two adults and two children. That's the maximum number of people allowed.

She wants to check in with DH, their two youngest boys and all their luggage, and have the two oldest boys wait outside until they're 'sneaked' in a little while later.

I think that whilst this is logistically possible, it will have implications but not sure what these implications might be. Friend thinks there's no problem with this and nobody will bat an eyelid.

AIBU in saying it's not a good idea?

Yes I know how to filter posts thanks. I meant a more recent update.

Nosygirl01 · 15/08/2024 02:19

years ago, whilst in a massive hotel abroad a family did this, 5 in a room for 3. The cleaners realised and started stealing from them each morning shift. Money. Clothing. Aftershaves. The family complained and got told to either pay an extortionate amount for an extra room or leave immediately. They called the police who did nothing about the theft but sided with the hotel. The two lads, teenagers, ended up sleeping in a bus stop for 2 days before they could get flights home.

Not even a 16 year old with 2 siblings?

The other option is one parent in each room with 2 children. It isn't difficult.

Why so defensive? I don't think the OP cares, and neither do I, but she has an opinion as do I and many others on this thread.

Me too this is my opinion. And it’s different.

Welshmonster · 15/08/2024 00:52

you asked your about what might happen if they got found out and she got shitty with you as she knows it’s wrong.

if they can afford the other room then the oldest ones would have appreciated it. More than a giant sleepover.

it’s basically stealing

AlbertCamel · 15/08/2024 00:02

I meant hotel room, not apartment. There's definitely no kitchen as far as I know.

OP posts:
AlbertCamel · 15/08/2024 00:01

There's no more news to update at this present moment. There have been photos posted of the beach, pool, dinner out. Also some photos of the apartment but they're the sort of thing you'd see in a brochure- close ups of rainfall shower head, plant on the table on the balcony, bottle of wine on same table. Can't see the actual apartment, it's size or layout. Looks like they're having a nice time, though.

I absolutely know she's not on mumsnet but I'm sure some of her friends/ our mutual friends are so I will post an update if anything happens as a result of their situation but don't think I can make it too obvious.

I want an update please OP. I'm genuinely fascinated to hear if they pull it off or not.

OP did update (it’s very easy to quickly see all OP’s posts) 4 days ago .. Anyway, all is fine judging by posts and photos and they've been on the beach today

Then has the cheek to claim harassment Grin.

🤣 indeed. I've posted a few times back and forward about the fire regulations as I find that interesting in relation to hotels. For me it would be after a few glasses of wine falling over the older kids strewn about the floor on my way to the toilet in the dark.

Op is your friend definitely doing this? Hotel staff especially cleaners are Eagle eyed and its a fair bet they'll get caught.

PreciousMahoney · 14/08/2024 16:30

Yeh but they wouldn't have mentioned you had you not posted in the first place with your condescending shite would they?

Cheek of you telling folk to get a life when the extent of your interesting contributions is snickering at folk having a conversation, if you have an opposing view state it for discussion but you just came to sneer.

Then has the cheek to claim harassment Grin.

Whistledown2 · 14/08/2024 17:24

@PreciousMahoney I would read your posts. Your belligerence far outweighs anything I have posted on here.

You and other posters have hijacked an 'interesting' thread with your vitriol toward me.

I stand by what I said in my very first post, and I'll not respond further, as then I too, am as bad as others in hijacking someone's thread with complete nonsensical postings.

I really do have better things to do but felt a response was in order.

Littlemisslaughalot · 14/08/2024 17:04

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 09/08/2024 09:18

That's not right, you'd have no idea who was in the hotel at any given time. People bring others back to their room all the time, or stay out. You wouldn't have hotel staff fretting because not every single guest's at the assembly point, or there are a couple of people they don't know there in last night's clothes. The fire service don't check for specific people, they check for people.

Either way, it does sound like a crap holiday and I imagine the staff will spot pretty quickly what's going on. They'll be asked to pay for another room or leave.

Hotel staff will print off a guest list that is a guide. They will tick off those who are present and try to contact those who are not. I have literally done this. Hotel staff should know who is staying in their hotel. Fires can happen during the night too when it is reasonable to assume only those booked in are.in the room..

People usually being other people to public areas not usually their rooms. If anyone has an extra guest staying over night they should let the hotel know.

PreciousMahoney · 14/08/2024 16:48

I'm not angry, I hate hypocrisy though. Your first post was nasty and your second one not much better in your attitude to other people on here

So when they challenge you on it you are being harassed?

Oh dear. Double standards there just a tad.

Feel free to respond but I'm done, I like to talk to people with something to actually say 😎

Whistledown2 · 14/08/2024 16:39

@PreciousMahoney you are quite an angry individual aren't you? I wonder why I ruffle you so?

As I said to a PP this is borderline harassment and if it continues I will report to MN

@cannellonies if you read what I wrote earlier you would see I am only responding to those who have mentioned me and not the thread topic. This is now bordering on harrassment..

Ok fair enough, I thought you meant everyone. But I do find this thread pretty interesting!

I seriously cannot believe people so invested in a situation that has F all to do with them! Honestly..you all need to get out more🤦🏼‍♀️

Oh the irony. If you have spent your time reading all 26 pages or even half, it does sound like you are little bit invested yourself and perhaps follow your own advice.

Figgygal · 14/08/2024 12:41

10 days effectively living on top of each other with kids on the floor sounds a bloody miserable holiday tbh
I think the friend is taking the piss and I expect they will be caught out somewhere

PreciousMahoney · 14/08/2024 12:18

Tinkly laugh

Whistledown2 · 14/08/2024 12:04

@BiscuityBoyle @PreciousMahoney I think you'll find I'm purely responding to my 'name' being mentioned and nothing to do with the thread..

Good day to you both

Whistledown2 · 14/08/2024 08:34

@RampantIvy how sad this thread is THAT interesting when there are so many other far far interesting reads out there, and you quote your settings too, my goodness you really do need to get out more!

It's actually called nosy..

And I'm happy that you have found a comrade in @LAMPS1

Yet here you are.

Julimia · 14/08/2024 11:55

Simply it' wrong and leaving them in a very scary position should the slightest thing go wrong. Just not worh it.
