Made a bolognaise pasta sauce type thing with 1 kg of minced beef steak.
Onions, peppers and mushrooms added.
Have come home from work and DH and DS 18 have polished the bloody lot off leaving me with a measly ladle full of sauce
( pasta was cooked separately for clarification)
They are most of that too

I once cooked an entire side of salmon, left it in the oven and went for a shower. It was to be mixed with quinoa, veg and portioned out for a week. Came downstairs and my OH was finishing it off. The whole.bloody thing. He doesn't like salmon much. If I am cooking I need to be there at plating up or he would eat everything - literally everything in the pans or in the oven. It's insane.

Is he overweight? That's just greedy and selfish. Fancy not even asking!

I cook normal portions for us, 2 adults. I always give OH more, so he gets 2/3, I have 1/3. I tend to put his on his plate first and there have been many occasions when he has tried to take my third before I have put it on my plate. He would eat EVERYTHING if I let him. He has no idea of portion control. He would literally stuff his face. No self control.

This is selfishness and entitlement, it’s nothing to do with self control. How can anyone be with a partner who acts like this? He would actually try and take all the food without even considering you? Honestly, I couldn’t be under the same roof with someone who treated me like this. Stop making excuses for his disgusting behaviour.

cannellonies · 08/08/2024 20:17

Just no. Not for bolognese. Meatballs yes.

A mix of pork and beef is very common for ragu and is really tasty

Mince is the new magic chicken I see

Lol that's what I was thinking - 6 portions with more for next day? Come on!

But yes OP that was greedy and very very rude. I'd stop cooking for them entirely tbh!

maddiemookins16mum · 08/08/2024 22:08

Very greedy. I made Spag bol yesterday with 500 grams of mince, 2 large grated carrots, large onion, tin of toms, tub of passata and 250 grams of diced smoked bacon. I’ve got 6 decent portions out of it. I also get annoyed with the ‘teenage boys eat a lot’, no excuse for them to be downright gluttons.

BernardBlacksBreakfastWine · 08/08/2024 22:07

So many greedy, selfish men. Colour me surprised.

@HunterDuke and @Barney16 Just how can you put up with such blatant disrespect for you in your own home?

Those arguing about how many people 500g mince should serve are totally missing the point. The point is that OP’s menfolk treated her like shit.

@CluelessAboutBiology he was sheepish but not massively contrite about the amount. He was more upset that I was supposed to have some (all week) and now didn't. He must have been really hungry. If I'd have said, he wouldn't have touched it. I didn't think it needed saying. I am now just explicit when it's not for him.

But what did he think you'd cooked a whole salmon for, if not to have at least some of it yourself?

SinnerBoy · 08/08/2024 21:23

Fleurdalys · Today 17:41

^Anyway, they make cheese, ham salad wraps every morning at 6 am to take to work
I've frozen every bloody wrap in the house°
Good luck with that at 6am

Don't forget to freeze the ham and cheese, if there's room. And maybe put loads of salt in the salad?

Therealjudgejudy · 08/08/2024 21:21

Not just greedy, but selfish and disrespectful.

verdantverdure · 08/08/2024 21:18

What selfish gits. My lot eat for England but they’ve never left me with the dregs.

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 08/08/2024 21:18

8 portions?!

Some of you don't have teenage sons and it shows Grin

Cheeky buggers though, I'd be really cross.

I'm always quite bemused by it tbh. I tried batch cooking but gave up because there was never enough left for a second go round. And, I'm a rubbish cook, it's not like I'm offering up cordon bleau.

@Barney16

fair play to you! I think I’d find the “stuffing his face” a turn off.

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/08/2024 21:13

EI12 · 08/08/2024 18:15

I would be delighted if mine did that. I always over-cook and chuck whatever is left for the fox. We have a visiting fox. (Rural area). I don't chuck fillet steak, salmon steaks, etc. But spagbol, for goodness sake, you are so mean!

@El12

gluttony and selfishness would “delight” you? Really? Why?!

CluelessAboutBiology · 08/08/2024 21:10

@HunterDuke what did DP say when you discovered the lack of salmon?

Booksandflowers · 08/08/2024 21:07

Projectme · 08/08/2024 17:49

Exactly my thoughts 😉🤣

Was thinking this too! 500g would only feed 4 of us in our house. And that’s bulked out with veg! 🤣

Cornflakes44 · 08/08/2024 18:46

That's actually disgusting behaviour. How selfish and greedy of him. Not sure I could respect someone with such little impulse control. He sounds like a child.

He's not. He's a great guy. He's also very very sporty and disciplined - but not massively thoughtful in the moment. He gets hungry and to be fair to him, he doesn't eat crisps, sweets or shit, so can often be a hoover for proper food. That said, he got a bollocking that day.

Mince is the new magic chicken I see

Yes, i'm wondering how the hell people are (claiming to) get 12 meals out of 500g of meat. With a teaspoon each?!

GettingStuffed · 08/08/2024 20:41

Even DH and DS1 wouldn't manage that. DS says he makes a chilli with that amount of mince and it serves him for 2 meals ( enormous appetite)

MorvernBlack · 08/08/2024 20:39

cannellonies · 08/08/2024 20:04

Put what you want for you in lunch boxes before you eat, and leave what’s left?

There is no way in hell my dh wouldn’t leave more than enough for whoever isn’t there to eat.

I portion it up straight away, but it has to cool on the side after portioning and that's when he strikes.

SD1978 · 08/08/2024 20:38

I think 1kg of mince may become the new MN chicken.......some people can feed a family of 10 for a week on it........I would be fecking livid that they did this, it's utterly selfish and disrespectful. I don't care what their job is. To come in, knowing others had to eat and basically oldish it off would have me absolutely furious with the both of them, and seriously considering not cooking for them

UnctuousUnicorns · 08/08/2024 20:36

I forgot to mention that there was also a large carrot in my pasta bake. Would have been mushrooms too if we'd had any in, but the fridge was a bit empty. Still made plenty, though!
