I probably am being unreasonable however I'm on here primarily for female perspectives.

No men would mean no PigletJohn, and no one wants that!

Please read the title " too many... recently' not banging men"

I don't object to men on here as long as they keep their brains in their trousers and don't try to ''date'' us etc. etc. ! There are some good genuine men on here who never pester us!

If I wasn't about to go to work I could link to many. Nearly every post I see from man is him asking fir advice.

Oh sweet summer child…

Have you not read any of their subsequent posts on those threads?

It’s completely relevant that a man was one of the founders as it was never designed to be solely for women.

Mumsnet is just a name. Its aim has always been for parents not for women. If you don’t like it then leave.

If a man invented a bra would you expect him to wear one? Your argument holds no water.

Please read the title thread : "too many..... recently' not I want to ban men.
Lol to fake news argument

*I'm not going to link them because I've name changed since then, but I've started threads before primarily looking for female advice.

One when DD started her periods while DP was on holiday and uncontactable, one asking for opinions on why an ex kept trying to contact me. One asking how best to put women at ease if I'm walking home at night behind a lone woman.

I've also started a few threads asking for more generic advice, but of course most of the answers still come from women as that's the majority of users on the site.*

You said you had seen lots threads asking for advice from women not that you had started them.

Well I am a man, hetero, have no children, live alone (with a cat), am 55 years old.

I find Mumset a great place for advice and info about all sorts of things (recently found some info about my new washing machine) and entertainment - AIBU is a daily visit.

I never visit the sex threads or offer advice on problems I know nothing about. I have offered some advice on writing, mental health and alcoholism (which I unfortunately know a lot about).

So I'm probably not the sort of 'problem man' the OP is concerned about.

Expect I will be lambasted for posting this - but just wanted to put across the perspective of a man who is not a sex-obsessed, arrogant, mansplaining, creepo creep.

You've announced your maleness and gone on a NAMALT rant. You are the men OP is talking about.

For the avoidance of the sorts of assumptions that underlie your first post, it wasn't irritation I felt. It was concern.

My comment was a comment on your general communication style.

If you're not like that then much of what is being said won't apply to you. You don't get a medal or praise for not being a creep.

Good men would have as much of an issue with bad men being here as women do. Instead of saying that, you just took the opportunity to promote yourself and tell us NAMALT. 🙄 Same old.

Because that’s what all women talk about all the time.

He's probably a man 😂

HRTQueen · 08/08/2024 08:57

They go on chats here about sex as they get a perverse kick from it

that can’t be stopped just we need to be aware

and ffs stop pandering to them for being so honest 🙄 or for being a feminist, a supportive husband/parent

Fullyflavoured · 08/08/2024 08:55

100 percent. I've had a lot of gynea issues in the past causing problems in that department but could never post on there, it's crawling with them. A shame as a lot of knowledgeable women on here.

The chances are if you do post on there you will receive pervy PMs.

ThisDog · 08/08/2024 08:53

Fullyflavoured · 08/08/2024 08:39

The sex topic is full of men which makes it unusable for most of the women on MN.

I agree and know lots of women who feel the same, both in real life and on here.

A woman posted there about sex causing thrush and got pervy comments and PMs asking for intimate details of her sex life. Another woman was having health issues after anal sex and asking specifically for advice on how to feel better. Instead, a load of men turned up to tell her how much they love anal sex and oversharing their experiences. Then there was the whole sex chat hook up thread which contained a disproportionate amount of men, many who were married or in relationships. At that time pervy threads increased. These men spread to the relationship board too. One woman posted on the relationship board due to feeling was feeling violated that her partner had forcefully held her head whilst she was giving him oral sex. One man chimes in to say that men often have to do this because it's painful for them if their penis isn't in contact with something when they ejaculate and minimised how they poor OP was feeling. Other men from the sex board came to back their friend up when women said he was disgusting. These are the sorts of men who I'm sure most women don't want here.

Shiningout · 08/08/2024 08:52

And I wouldn't mind but if men wanna go on sex forums why not reddit or mens health? Why skulk on the mumsnet sex board?

can guarantee they will turn up in numbers of any threads about stag nights, sex, sex work, exploration of woman in sex work, porn

It's so true!

It's always something like "I am a man. And let me start by saying the I am the most feminist person ever. But I do think you're unreasonable to get upset about you DH watching 'teen step daughter' porn. Porn is empowering for women and just a bit of fun. You would be better to work on your self esteem issues and not be such a nag"

Bobbotgegrinch · 08/08/2024 08:50

User56785 · 08/08/2024 08:38

I think that's an unfair comment. I've seen many, many threads started by men where they're asking for opinions and advice from women. In fact I'd say most of the posts I've seen started by men are like this.

How is it unfair? I'd just like to see one where a man wants opinions and advice from women as I haven't seen one.

Can you link one?

I'm not going to link them because I've name changed since then, but I've started threads before primarily looking for female advice.

Go check out the bloke on the husband wearing underwear thread. Not engaging, not answering the question, just [paraphrasing]:

I'm an open minded bloke and your husband's sexual activity that clearly turns you off and you don't like is fine...at least he doesn't beat you

Helpful

I have no problem at all with men being on here. What I DO object to is when women are sharing their lived experiences of sexism or misogyny and how to deal with it/ support each other and they come on to lecture us about how thats not how it is or try to minimise women's lived experiences or try to gaslight us into thinking it hasn't happened or that "not all men" BS.

One stupid man was doing that recently and it really made me angry. Piss off back to reddit if you want to do that.

This. I saw on a recent thread a man came on to tell us our experiences were wrong and even questioned a poster if she was mistaken about when she was born because he didnt believe she had experienced sexism/mansplaining in the work place.

Questioning if someone knows how old they are is a new level of stupidity/ignorance that shocked even me.

sanogo · 08/08/2024 08:47

What about the women on here that aren't Mum's?

You can't police the internet, you're being ridiculous

Ws2210 · 08/08/2024 08:46

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 07/08/2024 23:06

How do you know who is a man and who isn't? Most posters don't announce they're a man.

Oh they do

Didimum · 08/08/2024 08:45

Despite my comment above (which I stand by) do always notice that the sex or intimacy questions always, probably without exception, have a male poster weighing in. Very few seem to weigh in on the more domestic issues. I think MN moderators should have a duty to monitor male posters who appear to only be here for those posts.

Though it’s hard to police. It’s not a crime or against guidelines to be interested in sex, just as some women might pick and choose their posts of interest.

Bobbotgegrinch · 08/08/2024 08:45

Fluufer · 08/08/2024 08:39

Why do men announce their presence at all? It's because they think their maleness makes their opinion more valid.

I only generally announce my male-ness when it's relevant to the thread, so if the OP has specifically asked for male opinions, or if the thread is about erectile dysfunction and I've got first hand experience I can share. I also use female pronouns for DP when I talk about her, which leads some people to guess that I'm male, when I could just ask easily be in a homosexual relationship.
