I probably am being unreasonable however I'm on here primarily for female perspectives.

No men would mean no PigletJohn, and no one wants that!

Don’t forget ShatnersWig

Well sorry if I’ve got this wrong but I seem to remember your username on a few threads moaning about how your wife doesn’t have sex with you, apologies if it wasn’t you.

Also, do you know what CNC stands for? I assume you do and I don’t think it’s appropriate on a predominantly female website tbh.

The two things put together come across quite sinister. That may not be your intention and it may be harmless but it’s an example of how men can make women feel uncomfortable online.

That was me. I think we all start somewhere, and I think that was the original reason I come on here. I've made reference to it since as it's not 'ideal', but I'd say I'm coming to terms with it.
(edited) - and I had to look up the acronym. I originally misspelled 'cynic', but liked the symmetry of the misspelling. If you think people are making that association though, it definitely wasn't intended and I can change it.

Beth216 · 08/08/2024 15:02

Too many men on the sex board often talking about what their OH loves them doing, trying to get others to start describing what they love - and too many men on AIBU etc saying how they've been 'forced' to cheat on the mother of their young children because she's not giving them enough attention and now don't know what to do.

I have no idea why men would want to be on a website called mumsnet tbh.

Icantpaint · 08/08/2024 15:00

I always thought it was cinic/cynic

Champion, but it's also a BDSM term for rape.

Well done Sherlock

I do enjoy MN, and I would like to stay. I think many people (by now) know I'm a guy, and I hope I do not offend too many people by being here. I do occasionally speak up when double standards are made, which probably annoys some people though.

I try to limit myself to the "my DH does x" -style threads as I do believe a male perspective may be useful, and I have spoken up as a man as I have felt it's been relevant; or the 'gender-neutral' threads, like the travelling or gardening ones. I spend 90% on AIBU. Sometimes it's wildly off (for example, the 'death grip' comments).

I'm not perfect, but I have learned a lot from being here, and I try to own up when I've gotten it wrong. I still have some rough edges, but I'd like to think I've improved myself and become a better person by being here.

You've got a thread goading women into slagging off men (unsuccessfully thank goodness). Another about a female friend being a "catfish". Another about your wife being jealous of you driving around a female colleague. And the seemingly obligatory sex thread. That's not even getting into your posts on other threads...
You are the embodiment of the problematic men we're talking about.

If a man invented a bra would you expect him to wear one? Your argument holds no water.

Please read the title thread : "too many..... recently' not I want to ban men.
Lol to fake news argument

Huh, You compared a man inventing a bra to a man being involved in inventing this forum for parents......A bra is specifically designed for women. Mumsnet was designed for PARENTS, not just for women. Your analogy is ridiculous.

The people who developed Mumsnet did so for parents to discuss parenting. It was never developed just for women. People like you see the name and assume its just for women when they have explained previously it was the catchiest name they could think of calling it.

Mumsnet is for parents so your view on how many men are on here is irrelevant. Its a parenting forum.

Sorry to hijack but does anyone think there's also way too many old people on MN? I'd start a thread but would expect it to have a life expectancy of about 10 seconds

No I don’t think there’s too many “old” people, but it does really piss me off when people from older generations come on to threads and quip “well we struggled through 15% interest rates, we didn’t have central heating etc.” to young mums. Not really helpful or relevant on a site aimed at parenting advice.

savoycabbage · 08/08/2024 14:16

I don't think I ever knew NannyNick is a man.

MetalFences · 08/08/2024 14:16

If you are asking for recipes, have ingrowing toenails, need advice about estate agents, your cat has gone into labour in your airing cupboard, you have just been made redundant, your relative has died, your dog has eaten chocolate, you need to know a good hotel near the airport in Madrid or you baby just won't sleep, why on Earth would it matter?

Well obviously. I don't think anyone thinks otherwise.

That's not what the thread is about. It's about the recent plethora of threads about wives not having sex or being fat even though the baby is eighteen months old. The 'I'm a man' threads.

Nobody thinks men shouldn't post about hotels in Madrid.

ThisDog · 08/08/2024 14:15

Grin

Lol at men getting annoyed by women discussing problem men on here. Quite a pathetic effort by that poster to think that 'old people' as a demographic are comparable.

LindorDoubleChoc · 08/08/2024 14:07

This subject has come up on Mumsnet from time to time over the years and I have to say I'm not at all bothered by some of the benign male Mumsnetters who have contributed to the site - NannyNick, I seem to remember, and of course PigletJohn.

But I agree with you OP, there seems to have been a huge increase in recent years in the "man here" posts plus a very noticeable increase in generally arsey and trying to be clever retorts on threads, many of which I'm sure come from me, which makes the place feel like X or Facebook or somewhere equally horrible.

S00LA · 08/08/2024 13:52

DickEmery · 08/08/2024 00:05

They are tedious. They've got the whole rest of the goddamn internet fully manned up just there for them but still they have to come here. Some of them attempt to go undercover (eg "I am female" 😁😁) but you can always spot them. I don't know what they think they're going to achieve but they're obviously v annoyed at the thought of groups of women gathering and communicating with each other without any men around to correct them.

I agree with most of this.

I don’t mind when it’s a general parenting type question eg tell me about this school / area / product

I mind MASSIVELY when it’s clear that it’s a woman’s perspective that is being asked for , or it’s a question that only applies to women. Eg how did you cope with X or Y when pregnant / in labour / giving birth / breastfeeding.

I give an small exemption to blokes who are trying to be helpful on the above eg Im a man but my wife found x machine useful for pumping .

But it gives me the rage when men think that the question is “ as a person who has never and will never be pregnant, do share your opinion on how woman should do it better “ .

Or men who come onto a thread about eg “ what’s it like dating as a woman in her 50s “ and spout their own opinions about what women want , without even saying they are male. Of course it’s bloody obvious 90% of the time because it’s such shite .

I also mind MASSIVELY when it’s a support thread for a woman in crisis and some bloke comes along and blames her for it eg

OP - I’ve just found out my Husband is cheating on me with my sister.
Male posters - have you let yourself go, are you giving him enough sex, you shouldn't have looked through his phone, do you work etc

Would you have called this out if a woman had posted it?

It's quite different for a man to say it to a woman than for a woman to say it. If you don't understand why, I won't bother explaining why, something tells me that you won't take it on board. A woman didn't say it though...funny that!

invisiblecat · 08/08/2024 13:17

urbanbuddha · 08/08/2024 00:05

Because that’s what all women talk about all the time.

Oh, sorry - are women supposed to confine themselves to certain topics and only discuss childcare, cooking, housekeeping, relationships, education and caring for elderly relatives then?

Smithhy · 08/08/2024 13:14

Moonshine5 · 08/08/2024 12:45

@Smithhy no they weren't as I had already immediately quoted and corrected my "faux pas" myself. But crack on being an apologist for sexist remarks

The only sexist remark I can see is your “only sexual reference in the thread is by a man”.

Would you have called this out if a woman had posted it?
