Angry men problem is bigger than racism…

I was speaking to a close friend this morning who is part of the leadership at a local mosque. He was expressing despair about what the world could do with all these angry young (and not so young) men

It reminded me of the Scott Galloway quote ‘there is no one on earth so dangerous as a young man who is poor and alone’ - and by alone meaning not attached to a meaningful career, purpose or community. I think he’s right.

Obviously racist attacks are abhorrent - but what on earth is society supposed to do about all these people?

they are so angry, seem largely extremely poorly educated + unable to emotionally regulate themselves. How can they be plugged in to society so they can contribute something + feel part of something rather than just raging about what they aren’t given?

YABU - this is mainly a race issue

I do blame their fathers. They are their role models.
If your father teaches you that the only emotion you may display is anger and aggression then that is what you will become. Some, but not all, manage to see this is unhealthy. However they have to have the intelligence and where with all to see this and try and overcome it.
Examples of how fathers are to blame:
Stop crying, only girls cry.
Hit him back ( during a sports GAME)
You are not wearing pink, pink is for queers.
Stop acting like a girl.
No son of mine is going to attend dance classes.
Stop crying, boys don’t cry.
Leave that for your mother to do, no son of mine is going to do the (insert domestic task)
Let your wife/girlfriend/sister/mother sort that out ( insert task deemed beneath a male to do).

All these things cause stress and anxiety in males. Leading to aggression and violence being the only emotions deemed acceptable to display.

I swear people always do what they can to try and downplay the severity of racism. Always gotta compare it to something else and say it's not racism it's xxx or xxx is bigger.

Your thread is utterly ridiculous, insulting and insensitive as hell.

Do we think that the situation in Austria and Taylor Swift having to cancel all of her concerts, will add fuel to the fire?

I suspect the rioters and people like them hate Taylor Swift with a vengeance.

They are justified to be angry, the anger doesn’t justify their actions is the issue. It has been misdirected.

Successive governments & the ultra rich have been propping up the privileged, widening inequality, robbing working class of their share of profit and productivity gains, draining and dismantling public services…

Their anger is justified…and look here Farage and his ilk are there to re-direct the anger away from those who are at fault and towards convenient scapegoats instead. They’ve done this for so long while fixing nothing such that the anger has simply grown.

But girls from the same social cohort do better than them in school. There is a difference between the school adaptation of white working class boys and girls.

The boys fall behind in reading once their cohort advances past phonics and into reading for comprehensuon and accessing the wider curriculum, and by the time they've completed the first couple of years of secondary, all hope of engagement with school is gone.

Peer pressure among boys reinforces their lack of engagement. This is an example of toxic masculinity coming back to bite everyone on the bum.

This is one of the silliest posts I've ever seen on MN.
Yes, women are to blame for male violence. Of course we are. Because after all, in the good old days when we wimmenz knew our place, male violence did not exist. 🙄

Just my random musings, but I think as the old roles for men are being turned on their head it's not clear what role they're supposed to play now as their biology doesn't gear them for being natural nurturers and collaborators whereas a lot of the jobs available nowadays need that, and most women seem able, whether they want to or not, to be nurturer, provider and protector.

Men are perfectly capable, biologically, of nurture and collaboration.

Congrats

These are people living in very deprived areas, who have had all services stripped from them, lost jobs and job opportunities and been told, repeatedly, that it's due to immigrants and not because of the government

Many, many disabled people are in that exact position, and have been told they are to blame for society's ills.

Oblomov24 · 08/08/2024 00:27

It is a big problem though, and very complex. And no one is prepared to discuss it sensibly.

I didn’t know that immigrants in the UK don’t pay any tax, when did HMRC put that in place?

Seriously? Men are being aggressive violent shites because of feminism? WTAF? So women should put ourselves back in the kitchen give up careers and our lives to be cleaners, sex slaves and broodmares?

Exactly.

Some men are angry and violent and misogynistic. It has little to do with their education or their income.

Every 3 days in this country a woman is murdered by a man.

We urgently need to research the underlying cause of the anger felt by these men.

The people rioting have generally got low educational attainment and don't understand or comprehend how they are being manipulated by social media.

Even very educated people can be surprisingly easily misled.

The more you think it couldn’t happen to you the more I guarantee it is!

Any society with a huge surplus of young single men is a dangerous one.

Maybe they should quit the weed and gaming and go socialise, no one is keeping these men single but themselves.

Tonight across the entire of England there have been two reports of violence - a blocked highway in Portsmouth and a brick thrown through a police van window. That's it. Because the "left" wing anti racist groups came out. These people will not win

Yay. what I always hoped would happen

Get lost, small-minded racist types.!

You had your 15 minutes of fame and now you can live with your 6 years+ of unfortunate criminal record disclosure, or more if you ever aspired to a job requiring enhanced DBS ;)

Aren't most young men sexless and single? They're going to take out those frustrations somewhere.

I know right. It’s the same for single sexless young women, marauding in the streets.

Except …. Oh.

Fuck me. So males rioting is caused by women not caring to stay home and be barefoot and pregnant?

Let down! Every generation can say they've been let down. Not every generation petrol bombs migrant hotels and pelts bricks at the police.

Their behaviour is vile, but they didn’t invent mob violence. Big groups of young men with few resources, time and a grudge have been dangerous for centuries.

It’s not going to just go away, sadly.

I heard a good summary on the radio yesterday. Its professional racists + disaffected angry men + bored youths.

It got me thinking about social media, including Mumsnet. Professional agitators and bots start a lot of posts.

Those factors are significant but it's a superficial assessment and pretty flaccid without analysis of what creates those factors.

Young men full of energy and anger with no outlet but agression and violence.

National service doesn't seem such a bad idea now.

Football hooliganism served a purpose in the 70s and 80s to let them beat up each other.

They have been let down for sure, but there is no doubt testosterone is a powerful drug and particularly young men easily become pack animals.

They need jobs, training, futures, some money in their pocket, a social structure and clear norms of behaviour, none of which some of them get, which is why they are angry..
