AIBU to think that men who pee in public are disgusting and should be heavily fined?

I work in central London, the entrance to my office is on a small secluded side street, and it is an unusual week when I don't run into one man or another who has nipped into the street to have a pee, despite there being an open pub opposite and public loos 2 mins away. On my way home tonight, waiting to get the lift from the tube platform to the ticket hall, yet another guy whipped his dick out and had a pee onto the doorframe of the lift. When I pointed out we were yards from a public loo, he said "I have a weak bladder", and laughed.

You know who else has a weak bladder? Half the other middle-aged women I know. And yet we (usually) refrain from peeing in the street next to strangers.

All these men with their dicks in their hands will then go on to touch lift buttons, handrails, touch pads, etc.

Oh how I want them all to be arrested and given enormous fines. I am so sick of it.

I think the very least men can do if they have to piss in the street is to find a drain and piss straight down it.

KimberleyClark · 07/08/2024 11:12

In France it is completely legal to pee anywhere, as long as you don't commit what it charmingly known as an attentat à la pudeur, which means showing your bits. A couple of times I saw policemen nipping behind a bush in the park for a pee while on long boring guard duty outside the public building I worked in. You could see their heads above the bush but that was all.

Yes saw a man doing this in a park in Berlin too.

You're not being unreasonable, but they wouldn't be washing their hands even if they'd bothered going in the public toilets.

I think it would be an absolute crime to start putting men caught peeing in public on the sex offenders register. If any man can say 'oh I was just pissing in a bush' and it becomes a believable reason to be on the register at all then there's literally no point in it. It also means police disclosures to women could be lied about, as they don't give the exact details of the crime. If a man is a known sex offender but it's reduced to meaning he might have just pissed in an ally when he was 18 on his way home from a nightclub it belittles abs invalidates it.

I do agree when public toilets are nearby etc then it's absolutely no excuse. But in a lot of arrears councils have cut funding and closed public toilets, in these places of course there will be piss in random alleys and parks, because people need to use the toilet. We should encourage councils to make them more available. A lot of narrative was that as part of business licensing that businesses would pick up the slack but often they are 'customer toilets' which means you have to buy something. A lot of people don't want to waste money and don't have time to buy something. A pub in the example given id particularly bad as you likely know a drink kill just make you need to pee again and could take you a few minutes to drink.

Amazing how 99% of women manage

At least it’s only wee, my DP used to be a taxi driver and said that some drivers on long journeys would poo into a carrier bag if they were desperate.
We live in a rural area so lots of country roads. They would have been better going into a field and behind a tree but too lazy.

I asked what they did with the bag, he said he had an argument with a couple of men who admitted they just threw it out of the window, he was absolutely disgusted and said his opinion of them completely changed.

It’s like people that scoop up their dog shit then hang the bag on a tree. Some people are just disgusting!

I had a friend once that pooed in a jug when her car broke down after a gig in Manchester, she said she didn’t feel safe enough to get out and there was nowhere to go anyway, she was waiting for the breakdown service with the doors locked.
She remembered she’d been shopping including to B&M and bought a measuring jug before the gig so used that and planned to dispose of it when she got home.
She had to wait for hours and then by the time the AA got her car going and she got home she was exhausted and forgot about her deposit wrapped in a carrier bag in the boot. Her husband used the car the next few days so it was a while before she finally remembered, as he never mentioned it she assumed he hadn’t seen it, she went and checked and the poo was gone.

Neither of them mentioned it… however he did leave her a few weeks later out of nowhere. It’s been 13 years and she still puts it down to that moment of desperation.
She got drunk and finally asked him if that was the reason after they separated, he just said “let bygones by bygones we’ve both moved on”

I think the moral to these stories is that we need more public toilets or some people need to try to go before they set off on long journeys or stop when they can!

The worst are the ones who do this in the countryside. If they just left the shit on the ground it would be gone in a couple of days.

Lacdulancelot · 07/08/2024 02:20

@samarrange discharge of unsanitary liquids outside authorised areas is a class 4 offense in France and peeing in public places though still quite common is definitely illegal. You can urinate on your own land or someone else’s with their permission.

I posted similar a couple of years ago after I saw out of my living room window a man standing next to his car, peeing into an empty car parking space, in broad daylight, practically onto the pavement, on a very residential street near the centre of town.

I got pounced on because he could have had a hidden disability that meant he simply couldn't wait. Let's forget the fact he wasn't even bothering to TRY and be the tiniest bit discreet which I think you would if you were really caught short. And do only men have these hidden disabilities?

Anyway Mumsnet is a strange place and YANBU

Same. I was told I was a horrible human being. I pee myself when I sneeze, but wouldn’t dream of urinating in the street FFS. Poor men and their poor (hypothetical, per the general public) medical issues! ☹️ Meanwhile, the women who have had babies manage to figure out a way without entitlement…

TheM55 · 07/08/2024 01:29

If it is clear that a person (male or female) having been "caught out" has gone into bushes or similar to do it (so hidden), and there are no alternatives, then I am fine with it. If it is lazy drunkards (men or women) pissing in lifts, doorways or any other convenient place for them, then I am not fine with it. I would also be absolutely fine with traffic jams or unexpected events, either gender. I think every situation is different and should be judged as such.

There was a wonderful French book about 30 years ago called Le Guide de l'Emmerdeur (roughly, How To Be A Bit Of A Cunt). Each chapter was dedicated to some aspect of French law which, if everyone took it literally as written, would probably lead to chaos. Your neighbour goes on holiday and asks you to keep his expensive new TV in your house for safety, then when he comes back you refuse to give it to him and claim he sold it to you. You go into a shop to buy wine, get them to open several bottles to taste (there is an official list of things that you are entitled to taste before you buy, and wine is one of them) and then decide you don't like any of them. And the peeing in the street. There were many others too.

caringcarer · 07/08/2024 01:10

It annoys me when driving on the motorway to see men weeing especially when about 100 metres from a service station.

SingingSands · 07/08/2024 00:05

Log it with your council and get them to use anti-pee splash paint. Works a treat. They might take more notice if the complaints come from a business premises, too.

Sarahzb · 06/08/2024 23:58

It's exposure!
I caught one peeing on the carpark gates.
He said he had a weak bladder.
You realise this is a B Jobcentre with public toilets don't you ???
Ohh, Is it?
Big green sign
Just bloody lazy
Oh yes and filthy

TheSandgroper · 06/08/2024 23:56

A couple of years ago, we were driving from Esperance to Perth and were about 10kms from Kulin. There is bugger all out there - look it up. Just the Tin Horse Highway. https://www.visitkulin.com.au/see-do/experiences/tin-horse-highway

And it was also about 48 degrees. Anyway, Back of beyond, stinking hot and some poor truckdriver had pulled into a turning bay, hopped out and gone to the other side of his truck for a leak. No one for miles - except us driving past at the wrong time.

The poor bloke was just out of luck that day.

I bet no one's seen this before. I was on the tube going into London the other day when I noticed a guy get up and stand by the door facing into the corner. There was then a very loud, and very very long, sound of pouring, and I realised he was peeing into his child's bucket (a sandcastle bucket). I couldn't believe it. He (eventually) zipped himself up, hooked the bucket onto the pushchair handle, and sat back down with his child, while I just hoped the tube didn't do a sudden stop and spill the contents of the bucket everywhere.

That is just so disgusting.

BobbyBiscuits · 06/08/2024 23:41

That is grim. I can understand being caught short nowhere near a bathroom, and having go in a shrubbery by the side of the road or something.
But it's gross to just take it as a given.

I had a terrible time when I had to work in a really remote area. I desperately needed to go and there was no pubs or coffee shops or anything. I ended up squatting between two parked cars, mortifyingly I stood up to realise I was directly in front of a primary school! Thankfully shut as it was about 7pm. But I was so scared I'd be on camera and get done for flashing or perving or something. If it was a bloke he'd have given not one shit.

BashfulClam · 06/08/2024 23:40

I’m kinda jealous of how easy men have it when caught short. We got stuck for several hours due to a jack knifed lorry on a snowy road. Saw quite a few men jump out of their vehicles and run into the trees at the side of the road. I was trying to think how I could go discreetly, luckily we managed to turn round and go back to wherever started where it was less snowy. On nights out a lot of blokes would disappear at certain points on our walks home, the girls just had to hold it in.

All of this. It's not a sex offence; it's not being done for sexual reasons. It's often lazy and inconsiderate but those are very different things.

Bedtime91 · 06/08/2024 23:32

To add, I reported to the police who took it seriously but the car was registered to a female so there wasn't really anything else they could do.

I completely agree. I also hate the pop up urinals dotted all over London (and presumably in other cities too). Pissing in the street is just another example of male entitlement.

Frannyhy · 06/08/2024 23:24

Years ago I was on a bus going through Clapham. We passed a woman squatting with her skirt up, pissing like a racehorse in the gutter.

The image will be embedded in my mind for life.
