AIBU to think that men who pee in public are disgusting and should be heavily fined?

I work in central London, the entrance to my office is on a small secluded side street, and it is an unusual week when I don't run into one man or another who has nipped into the street to have a pee, despite there being an open pub opposite and public loos 2 mins away. On my way home tonight, waiting to get the lift from the tube platform to the ticket hall, yet another guy whipped his dick out and had a pee onto the doorframe of the lift. When I pointed out we were yards from a public loo, he said "I have a weak bladder", and laughed.

You know who else has a weak bladder? Half the other middle-aged women I know. And yet we (usually) refrain from peeing in the street next to strangers.

All these men with their dicks in their hands will then go on to touch lift buttons, handrails, touch pads, etc.

Oh how I want them all to be arrested and given enormous fines. I am so sick of it.

Even in busy high streets there often isn't any open toilets. Small cafes sometimes don't have any. Pubs/large cafes/restaurants don't like people using their toilets unless you buy something. In central London they will lock the toilets to stop this from happening. Supermarkets in certain areas also lock their toilets as too many drug addicts use them.

Even my local park has locked their toilets so that people cannot use them. There is at least a 30 min walk to the nearest public toilets from it.

Men, on the whole, have larger bladders than women. And yet it is overwhelmingly men who pee in public.

If women can generally organise themselves not to piss in front of strangers, and stink up the streets, why can't men?

Disgusting. What i also hate seeing are those blokes who walk around with their hand down their trousers! Not the ones in suits/jeans but tracky bottoms. I mean obviously their only scratching their inside of their leg!?! 😒 Why do they think thats acceptable?! I dont walk around with my hand up my vag. Anyway, ive started slowing down in my car so they notice me, and pulling a disgusted face, they soon get it and detach their hand from the knob/balls area and out the trousers

So many do this, particularly younger blokes. Disgusting.

Sunshine9218 · 08/08/2024 19:53

I don't care if they pee outside but more discreet/out the way then on a train station

I think that the 2 things that I take away from this thread is that
1/ there needs to be more toilets
2/ women have to plan their day out around if there are open toilets and if there aren't, they have to go home early. Men don't have this problem.

I feel like there needs to be a rule so you can do it on natural ground (i.e. soil or grass) but not on pavements, roads etc. It is completely different if it can just soak in, whereas on pavements it just puddles or runs, and bloody stinks.

I don't think this will help. This will just give men an excuse as to why they're allowed to do it in the middle of a busy high street but it's fine because there's a tree and grass or soil there.
(Using this example because i have actually seen this. Busy high street. Plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants all down the road. Man pissing at 5pm up a tree which is surrounded by grass on the verge)
Let's face it. If someone is hiding out of view in the woods/deep in bushes no one can see them anyway so no one would complain. The whole reason threads like this start is because men DON'T hide away.
I don't really want to see everyone pissing along grass verges during the day in public anymore than I want to see them pissing in shop doorways or lifts. It's not just about the smell. Although that's another issue in itself obviously.

My mum has a cleaning company and has a few contracts in the city centre. The amount of piss (and sometimes shit) in office building and shop doorways during a weekend, is disgusting.
She uses the Zoflora pet stuff on it (I think it is the Mountain Air one).

I have been caught short myself, and gone into a bush.
One time, after a boozy night, I went in the centre of a tree filled roundabout and had what I thought was a sneaky wee. I did the deed, and turned round to see that my bare arse had been facing the road. Oops!

MrsGhastlyCrumb · 08/08/2024 17:13

We have men coming into our shared garden to pee against the wall regularly as you can see the bus stop from there. I've yelled at a fair few of them: there are several wee kids who play out on our green, including mine.

Disgusting buggers.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 08/08/2024 17:08

The prostate tends to be an issue with older men, not young men out on the lash.

Allfur · 08/08/2024 16:49

Could it be a prostate thing?

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 08/08/2024 16:45

I gardened for a woman who lived a couple of doors down from a pub and used to hate working in the front garden because the hedge was used as a urinal and was absolutely rank. She got rid of the hedge in the end and the issue stopped.

The smell of male piss makes me gag.

Nitgel · 08/08/2024 16:13

i hate this, and I really find the open urinals on the london streets foul. Who decided that was a good idea! London needs to build more toilets.

Cartwrightandson · 07/08/2024 13:23

Get a she wee type thing and go somewhere discreet if you absolutely must

Have you ever actually tried using one of those??
I have and believe me with all the faffing around trying to get it positioned so it doesn't leak all down your leg (which involves partially pulling down running leggings if you're running) you might as well find a bush or field edge out of sight and just do a wild wee.

i am a long distance runner, if I'm running road I make sure my route takes me past plenty of loos, but if I'm out on the trail then sorry, I have no shame, if I need to pee I find somewhere as much out of sight of the trail as possible. Yes there are times when I wish I was a man and could just go up the nearest tree.

She had to wait for hours and then by the time the AA got her car going and she got home she was exhausted and forgot about her deposit wrapped in a carrier bag in the boot. Her husband used the car the next few days so it was a while before she finally remembered, as he never mentioned it she assumed he hadn’t seen it, she went and checked and the poo was gone

Neither of them mentioned it… however he did leave her a few weeks later out of nowhere. It’s been 13 years and she still puts it down to that moment of desperation.
She got drunk and finally asked him if that was the reason after they separated, he just said “let bygones by bygones we’ve both moved on”

That’s a crazy story @Salumthecat and it reminds me of how much women put up with literal crap from men (skid marks on beds, men not showering for days etc) but in many cases a man will just not tolerate even a fraction of that stuff. Women are way too accommodating.

But then I’m guessing your friends marriage was already on its last legs and she just didn’t know it - really for him that was just the final straw.

Bedtime91 · 06/08/2024 23:31

I posted similar a couple of years ago after I saw out of my living room window a man standing next to his car, peeing into an empty car parking space, in broad daylight, practically onto the pavement, on a very residential street near the centre of town.

I got pounced on because he could have had a hidden disability that meant he simply couldn't wait. Let's forget the fact he wasn't even bothering to TRY and be the tiniest bit discreet which I think you would if you were really caught short. And do only men have these hidden disabilities?

Anyway Mumsnet is a strange place and YANBU

I think I remember that thread!

And no OP YANBU it’s absolutely disgusting and they rarely wash/ sanitise their hands afterwards. It’s just grim and unnecessary. We are expected to hold it in even when periods when we may need to go more but men are just whipping it out everywhere.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 08/08/2024 15:22

I live in London next to a park. I see grown men peeing on the first tree inside the park gate multiple times a day. It's never ever women. Gross.

Salumthecat · 07/08/2024 02:06

At least it’s only wee, my DP used to be a taxi driver and said that some drivers on long journeys would poo into a carrier bag if they were desperate.
We live in a rural area so lots of country roads. They would have been better going into a field and behind a tree but too lazy.

I asked what they did with the bag, he said he had an argument with a couple of men who admitted they just threw it out of the window, he was absolutely disgusted and said his opinion of them completely changed.

It’s like people that scoop up their dog shit then hang the bag on a tree. Some people are just disgusting!

I had a friend once that pooed in a jug when her car broke down after a gig in Manchester, she said she didn’t feel safe enough to get out and there was nowhere to go anyway, she was waiting for the breakdown service with the doors locked.
She remembered she’d been shopping including to B&M and bought a measuring jug before the gig so used that and planned to dispose of it when she got home.
She had to wait for hours and then by the time the AA got her car going and she got home she was exhausted and forgot about her deposit wrapped in a carrier bag in the boot. Her husband used the car the next few days so it was a while before she finally remembered, as he never mentioned it she assumed he hadn’t seen it, she went and checked and the poo was gone.

Neither of them mentioned it… however he did leave her a few weeks later out of nowhere. It’s been 13 years and she still puts it down to that moment of desperation.
She got drunk and finally asked him if that was the reason after they separated, he just said “let bygones by bygones we’ve both moved on”

I think the moral to these stories is that we need more public toilets or some people need to try to go before they set off on long journeys or stop when they can!

That is a very sad story, but how does a person forget about a jug of shit in the car boot?

I was once peeing in a hedge-lined ditch by an autobahn - totally out of sight of the cars passing. But ...... a coach went by - much taller - the passengers gave me a wave!!!

This reminds me of an occasion years ago when my sister and I were on a walk in the Peak District and both needed to pee. We were on a fairly remote price of moorland with nobody in sight so we decided to step off the path in to the heather to do the necessary.

Just squatting down performing when there was the sound of distant voices. We hastily finished off and looked around in a panic to see where the people were. Then we noticed the hang gliders above....

I appreciate that a lot of elderly men develop prostrate issues, but I do sometimes wonder if the prevalence of male urinary incontinence in old age is contributed to at all by a lot of men never feeling they need to learn to hold it for more than a moment or two in earlier life.

DH (66) will pee behind a bush if we are out in the countryside on a walk but wouldn't dream of peeing in a public place like a built up area. However I am occasionally exasperated when we have been somewhere where a toilet is available, e.g. a restaurant, and he didn't bother to go, then half an hour later he is apparently desperate and we need to find a toilet.

Recently we made a longish journey in to Europe that involved several trains. After about three consecutive train journeys where he had not used the, perfectly adequate, toilets on the train but as soon as we got off he had to find the toilet in the station NOW, I asked him why on Earth he hadn't gone on the train when he had the chance. His excuse was that he didn't need to go then. When I asked why he couldn't just go anyway before he got desparate he claimed that wasn't possible.

His claim, he can't make himself go when he isn't ready. Maybe as we women have smaller bladders we have a lifetime experience of squeezing out what you can when there is the opportunity to avoid difficulties later.

NameChanged100thTime · 08/08/2024 14:36

What kind of person would find it acceptable to pee in a doorway or lift?! I used to be quite a chilled out person, but starting to dislike men more and more as I come across situations like this so often. I've come across men peeing in tube stations, lifts, shopping centres, etc. and the blatant disregard sometimes makes me think that they do it on purpose to upset women, to show that they can do whatever the hell they want and there's nothing we can do about it. I despair.

Well maybe local councils COULD provide public conveniences!

It's disgusting when it's done in an urban environment and stinks the place out, but behind a bush in the countryside - meh.

The point being that
a) people are too idle to walk to one....like the drunks who leave the pub and piss in doorways (which I've seen)
b) that people still think it's ok to piss in the street

YoureNotFromBrighton · 08/08/2024 13:46

How is it different to dogs pissing on our streets day in day out, and pooing all over the place too (so what if it gets picked up - still leaves a smudge of faeces).

Until we stop letting dogs do it - a species we don't need, I can't get worked up about humans doing it.

This happened to a (female) friend of mine, caught short in a large park whilst walking her dogs. Went into a thicket on the edge of the park to ensure she couldn't be seen from the park, close to a tall wall screening the road.

Or it did until a double decker bus went past...

TheMightyWanderer · 08/08/2024 13:39

It’s so vile. I once saw a man get out of his mate’s van while in slow (not standstill) traffic on the M32, get his dick out, and walk alongside the van while pissing. All with a big gross grin on his face 🤢 so disgusting.
