It is horrendous that there is a climate of fear and that all this far right terrorism is taking place.

are there ways for the general public to give support to minorities who are being targetted?

This whole situation is awful but not surprising. England has always been racist.
Not sure what can be done to support apart from things suggested already.

Maybe all the people of colour should just not go to work etc as it's not safe. My neighbour is born and raised here, second gen black British works for NHS, I won't say as what to avoid outing info.

We live where there were/are riots.
She is terrified, she was crying the other day when I popped round to check on her. I've offered to drive her to work and back as we finish similar times and will save her public transport.

Ironically I am not British but as I'm white, I've had no hassle, been fine going wherever.

I personally think the above, all people of colour should just stop helping prop up this country that treats them like trash.
Take a two week break, the mental stress this must be causing is horrible to imagine.

Speaking with and seeing this usually friendly smiling women turn into.this scared shell has made me rethink and evaluate my own views on immigration.
I am still very much is favour of brits being deported out of my home country (Spain) but I would hate for my country to treat them the way this country is treating minorities.

I've reported your post, what is it you don't get? I shall spell it out for you, a TINY minority of people are the troublemakers, most people have tried to protest peacefully.
I have also said many a time that the troublemakers should be locked up and that I don't condone violence.

Well why the majority of "protesters" stood watching the thugs, filming them? They could have overcome the "tiny" minority fairly easily and made sure that these thugs wouldn't harm innocent people.

DoubleCoatedDogs · 06/08/2024 17:59

@Milkyway1213 Report away. It doesn't erase the fact that the vast majority of rioters are beating up anyone they see who's a different colour to them, burning buildings and looting shops. Did you see the footage of the black man dragged from a car at some traffic lights? Or the woman kicked in the head on the street in Liverpool?

The ones who aren't actively doing that are frothing at the mouth about the country sinking under the weight of immigrants.

They're not all aged people concerned about the country. They're violent fascists looking to start a war.

The Empire's dead love. Get over it.

I was quite frightened of the pro Palestine demos. Still am.

Calling for intifada, and all sorts of other disgraceful calls for violence.

Support for those pro Hamas demos though.

Nobody stood in solidarity with Jews who might feel intimidated by this in their own home city. In fact there is support for it

Being pro Palestine and being pro Hamas are two different things.
Having said that calls for violence are never acceptable.

Iwantitidontwantit · 06/08/2024 17:48

Milkyway1213 · 06/08/2024 07:34

But they are not ALL thugs!
Did you not see footage of the 73 year old who was arrested for just being present at a protest?

I see tiktok lives every night. 99% are uneducated, racist, Islamaphobic and absolutely looking for trouble

If you are supporting this in anyway then you are a part of the problem

We have huge societal issues but when has rioting and scapegoating ever been the answer! Oh if you go along to these protests then you deserve whatever trouble you get 🙄

NashvilleQueen · 06/08/2024 17:44

A mob setting fire to a hotel containing migrants and blocking the exits is arson with intent to endanger life and you can fuck off with the hurt feelings.

I had intended to not come back to this thread, but your nasty comments made me want to respond. You are completely out of order implying that I don't care about the little children who were killed. Of course I care, it has really upset me, as it has all of the population no doubt.
I'm also as disgusted as anyone that people have resorted to violence since then, you might want to actually read my posts properly instead of resorting to posting such disgraceful words.

I implied nothing.

I made no comment as to whether you care or not, so be as disgusted as you like.

I stated- your 'protests', the very ones you are supporting, have drowned out reporting on the murders - FACT.

Milkyway1213 · 06/08/2024 16:58

Marseillaise · 06/08/2024 12:41

When has this happened? Were the police called?

I've said previously, in Birmingham. Are you being deliberately goady? In fact, don't bother with your know it all response, I won't be engaging with you again, it's a waste of my time.

Milkyway1213 · 06/08/2024 16:54

Marseillaise · 06/08/2024 12:39

Yes, and? That is ONE person, not a vast majority of people at the protest, and it's a virtual certainty that they won't be charged.

The 'vast majority' of people at the protest were NOT causing any trouble at all. Stop taking things out of context.

Milkyway1213 · 06/08/2024 16:51

Marseillaise · 06/08/2024 12:38

Why won't the Government address the real concerns of the people? Why are certain groups allowed to wield knives and machetes in public without intervention by the Police?

Which groups, and when, @Milkyway1213? You do know the person accused of the Southport knife attack is not an immigrant, don't you?

Yes I do know he's not an immigrant, I've already mentioned that.
Which groups? When? Last night in Birmingham, have you not seen the footage?
Google it. Although, you probably have I guess, but just won't come back on here to say so.

Milkyway1213 · 06/08/2024 16:47

Marseillaise · 06/08/2024 12:36

Why do you feel you are being given this label? The OP specifically referred to far right terrorism. Have you been out throwing stones at police and trying to set fire to buildings with people in them? If not, you haven't been labelled by her.

How do you know that your views represent those of "the people"? Do you actually object to, for instance, legal immigrants following their own religion and having places of worship to do so? Why?

You're another poster who appears to twist things, where did I say the OP has labelled me?
I didn't. I said Kier Starmer has, and no I don't object to legal immigrants, I never implied that I did, so there's no need for all the questions, I've no need to explain myself to you.

SallyWD · 06/08/2024 16:40

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 06/08/2024 11:19

Could be all manner of reasons...fear? Disability? Lack of childcare?

I would encourage people to join the peaceful counter protests if they are able. I found it immensely reassuring to see that the antiracists far outnumbered the racists in my community.

Yes that's exactly my point.its by confronting the racists that we let them know they're not tolerated and it shows people from minorities that they're not alone.
If my ethnic group was being targeted I'd want people of all colours to stand up for me.
I understand that not everyone can protest though.

Milkyway1213 · 06/08/2024 16:37

Dweetfidilove · 06/08/2024 12:04

@Milkyway1213 what I find absolutely disgusting is that because of your 'protests', we are not talking about the beautiful children murdered last week. They are almost forgotten while all focus is on your spectacle and that is what is disgusting, especially so soon after the police had seemingly woken up to the fact of VAWG.

I had intended to not come back to this thread, but your nasty comments made me want to respond. You are completely out of order implying that I don't care about the little children who were killed. Of course I care, it has really upset me, as it has all of the population no doubt.

I think we start by ensuring the language used is correct.

The previous government used the term "illegal migrants" for anyone entering the UK via a boat claiming asylum. They are asylum seekers. They remain so until their claim is processed and either they are given asylum or not.

If they aren't they are returned.

They only become an illegal Immigrant if they are refused stay and avoid return. Or someone outstays their visa.

They are housed in hotels in large numbers because the government decided to stop processing claims and do that. They decided to hold on to all the asylum seekers whilst fighting to send 200 to Rwanda in return for 200 Rwandans. It was always a reciprocal deal.

And under that deal we would have had more British children born to Rwandan parents in the UK as was the Southport stabber.

There is large immigration done via routes such as homes for Ukraine and from Hong Kong. The government allows these people to come and some do have questions over the numbers. But these are far higher by 100's of thousands than those crossing in boats to claim asylum.

You then have the likes of Braverman who use language such as "invasion". She's gone quiet. Is it because she realises the hate she's stoked means that the other day she would have been stopped in her car and deemed not British enough to avoid a beating? Purely because these thugs would have looked at her, deemed her non British (she is) and felt she wasn't to be here. Assumed she was "an illegal". Her parents were immigrants.

It's fucking ridiculous. We know successive governments have tried (and admittedly failed) to stop people feeling they are safer risking their lives crossing the channel than staying in their homes.

But we also leave them no choice. We have NO safe route for these people.

This isn't about keeping our children safe. This isn't about immigration and people's concerns over it.

This is solely and purely about violent thugs deciding anyone who doesn't look British enough to them not being welcome.

And sadly I have NO idea how to stop people fearing that. Because the truth is many British people don't look British (in the eyes of the rioting thugs).

But I'm fucking embarrassed to be British right now - that much I do know.

And this.

midgetastic · 06/08/2024 07:43

The real concern of illegal immagration is a myth though

Levels of illegal immagration are small. Something like 70% of people entering the uk through illegal routes are actual deemed legally entitled to stay.

The majority of immigrants enter legally through approved routes

The vast majority of people of colour are not even immigrants but were born here

Yes we have more people from further afield now than we used to - as legal immigrants - a direct and predicted impact of Brexit ( which sone people voted for on the basis of immigration - the irony ) (and yes there can be culture problems that result - especially in a hostile rather than a welcoming climate - ah the irony again

Yes illegal immigration is bad - but more because of the high number of people dying en route to, the way it feeds criminals , and the very fact that people go to such lengths suggests their lives are much worse than those of the uk

It's not having a huge impact on your life

This.

Begsthequestion · 06/08/2024 15:07

The rioters are a group of down-and-outs who don't want anyone of colour in their country. Driven by racism and ignorance, they seized on the tragic death of innocent children as an excuse to further their hateful narrative.

I hope you watched the video of them stopping cars and checking if the drivers were white. If they weren't, they were severely beaten.

Don't worry. Once football season starts in a week or so, they'll all be back home or at Wetherspoons.

Edited

Tbh there are antisemitic terrorist-supporting marches weekly where I live and no one has offered any support to the Jewish community who are making sure to be out of the centre of town every Saturday since October. If you want to support minorities, support all minorities being discriminated against. (Obv the far right rallies are also antisemitic but that is not the core focus.)

This is my biggest bugbear about media coverage of a lot of these demonstrations. It will show the hard line aggressive demonstrator/thugs. But not the regular people also there only asking for voices to be heard. I am pro Palestine not because I hate Jews. But because Israels military treatment of innocent men, women and children is abhorent.

Xenia · 06/08/2024 14:59

Actually I am a minority where I live in London but these are always complicated issues.. most people in the UK do not support the violence and more people than not want illegal and lawful immigration tackled as indeed does the Labour and Tory parties- i t was centre stage for all parties at the last election.

we personally don't have to do anything. We are not doing anything wrong to anyone, we are at home, sitting on bums onto sofas. The organisations who work with terrorists have to up their game , the government local authorities who work with Muslims have to up their game, the border control has to up their game, Rwanda has to give us back our money so we fund properly the extradition of all these men. THAT IS MY PENNY

Are you going to put any actual pennies into this? Because none of that will actually stop a racist mob going out tonight to terrorise people from ethnic minorities.

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/08/2024 13:03

Help with clean up operations.
There are Go Fund Me type things to help people rebuild.
Confront racist fuckwittery spouted by racists. Do not hold back with your disgust.
Keep an eye on your local media.
Be a wee bit friendlier to those groups effected.
Take a zero tolerance approach to racism.
