Where is Keir Starmer?

Does anyone else find it weird Keir Starmer isn't more visible this week? He hasn't held a press conference in days, wasn't obviously present at No. 10 after the Cobra meeting and won't recall parliament. Surely he can't have actually gone on his holiday when the UK is in meltdown?

Floating on a pink flamengo in the Med probably

Radarkeigh · 06/08/2024 13:06

He's probably sitting somewhere thinking why he took this job on. He should probably capitalise on the Deputy PM's experience here, she is probably much more skilled to deal with these mobs.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 06/08/2024 13:03

You know the people who call, email, call again and then call again to complain that you haven't dealt with their complaint/claim at work yet? The ones where the person trying to sort their problems out would like to be able to do it, but every time they try they're stopped by having to deal with the person complaining to all and sundry, including the CEO, Watchdog, the unfortunate person on Reception, Facebook and the problem page in the Sun that it hasn't been sorted yet?

That's the OP.

didn't he say he doesn't work weekends?

No, he said he’d try to take Friday evenings off. Do you seriously begrudge him a night off?

Ted27 · 06/08/2024 12:49

@stronglatte

yes at No 10, probably for an hour or so, something about a little unrest in the Middle East I understand.

You do realise that he has a whole Cabinet of Secretarys of State responsible for government functions.

can you tell me precisicely what you are expecting him to do - ie specific tasks for him to do. Everyone will have left COBRA with a big to do list, its the PMs job to manage that.

didn't he say he doesn't work weekends?

It's terrible- he likes to have dinner with his wife and kids on a Friday. What is the world coming to?

LlynTegid · 06/08/2024 12:46

I don't find it weird.

Unless laws are going to be changed, even temporarily, then I see no reason to recall Parliament. Indeed I think many MPs could do more in their own constituency.

What? He cancelled his holiday , chaired a cobra meeting and made a speech about it.

Im guessing the right wing press aren't publicising that

Doesn't fit the narrative, it confuses them

KreedKafer · 06/08/2024 12:35

He’s done press conferences, convened Cobra and made numerous statements. How much more ‘visible’ do you want him to be? He’s literally doing his job.

Notonthestairs · 06/08/2024 12:13

Oh no.

Defence & trade talks continue whilst small numbers of rioting thugs are investigated and arrested by the police.

It's almost like the Government can do more than one thing at any one time.

How will we ever survive?

stronglatte · 06/08/2024 12:07

He's literally with the Sultan of Oman

TheFunSpongeBobSquarePants · 06/08/2024 12:00

Kier is in with his advisers trying to work out WTF they are going to do about Elon Musk, who is out to bring Starmer down.

Elon Musk is the richest man in the world, and the finance behind Trump, so one of the most powerful men in the world.

Kier really does have his work cut out for him.

stronglatte · 06/08/2024 11:59

@Ted27 hosting the Sultan of Oman .. Rome is literally burning and our PM fiddles !

On the toilet?

Ted27 · 06/08/2024 11:42

@stronglatte

WfH ie No 10 Downing Street I would imagine

He’s commented on the situation that is happening now … he’s not making a documentary on the potted history of Civil Unrest in England

Well said

Someone remind me which party ditched 20,000 police staff and called warnings scaremongering? I do believe it was the Party of Law and Order. Thanks Mrs T May.

newnamethanks · 06/08/2024 09:45

Tories scraping through the bottom of the barrel these days, only the worst and most out there will speak right now. They'll be calling up tractor porn man soon. Although, compared with Jenkyns, that is much the better choice.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 06/08/2024 09:45

OP you are a shit stirrer and you know it. I imagine Starmer is being distracted by rioting thugs, don't you?

The lack of police in Birmingham right now won't be helping his 'twotierkeir' image

Ah you've joined the ranks of Tommy Robinson and Lawrence Fox with this 'two tier' bullshit. Well done on succumbing to meaningless conspiracy theory baseless bollocks peddled by racists.

Andrea Jenkyns was peddling it last night too. I don't know why the repellent woman is given airtime.

I'd far rather that sometime was holding some grown up meetings, then wasting time trying to find a camera, personally.

What we appear to have in our new PM is a serious grown up who works hard at what actually needs doing, rather than pandering to a public that thinks that if something isn't on their phone screen entertaining then, it doesn't exist.

He was Britain's most senior prosecutor during the 2011 riots so if anyone knows how to deal with this it's Keir Starmer.

He has been visible and has stated clearly how this situation is going to be managed.

We need a professional PM who gets the job done. He doesn't need to be addressing the nation every hour on the hour to do that.
