To think there's got to be at least a couple of MNers involved in the rioting ?

Based in the broad views seen here, I can't believe that there isn't someone who is involved either passively or actively.
If you are one of those, would you like to explain why?

Amazing and heartening to see Stand Up to Racism in Plymouth . Great to see decent and kind people taking to the streets to peacefully protest

What do you make of their signs?

Open the borders, no deportations?

The problem with finding someone like that here is that Mumsnet is left wing, on par with Reddit. You're not allowed dissenting views here, you have to toe the line.

(Unless it's about trans rights, but I guess that's because it's starting to actually affect them and their middle class families...)

This is actually possible. I went to see comments in newspapers and they were way more balanced.

Lucky you! My dream.

look after our own problems first. Or to ask a limit on the amount of single male immigrants arriving and being put up in hotels in small towns as well as cities

but those 'statements offer no solution - they just say 'immigrants are a problem' so that's still fanning the flames of hatred that leads to this.

We DO look after our own - we have a benefit system, homeless officers in each LA, social housing, emergency accommodation and jobs! Males come here because they are more likely to be targeted by armed forces like the Taliban and forced to fight - I would not send my daughter on the journeys any of my young male AS I work with have made - criminal exploitation, abuse and assault are common - males have a better chance of surviving and once here and settled can get their female relatives to safety - so pat statements don't actually show the whole picture

But then you read comments that the problems is male violence and the ones committing crimes are men. Only to support large numbers of them without knowing who they are coming here everyday. Because they have to leave their families behind. The same people I see the same posters with this exact comments. You can’t make it up.

Closest I've got to being in these riots is my ex (we broke up over 15 years ago) is in the one in Hull (he lives just round the corner to where they where happening)

I saw him in one of those clips-he was slinging something at the police

I can confirm that he is a racist,small minded,wife beating,alcohol fueled,woman hating,controlling Andrew tate superfan

It one too many beatings for me to leave the controlling little prat

I'd bet money on them all being like that-every single one of them

I'm so glad you got out @Sharontheodopolodous. I hope more women do the same as you this week. Thanks

Beryls · 05/08/2024 17:55

The people rioting are a tiny percentage of an area. I live in Hartlepool, there's around 92K people living here, it looked like around 50 people (mostly teenage kids) were rioting last week.

The percentage of people participating in the riots of any area is tiny so it's quite unlikely.

Giggorata · 05/08/2024 17:54

The riots seem to consist of differing groups of people with different agendas:
Mainly non local, bussed in thugs, who are the actual far right and are the ones doing most of the fire setting and violence,
Some fairly ordinary protestors, of varying political hues, who are worried about immigration, changing demographics and culture, infrastructure, etc, (including one woman, an excerpt of whose speech in Hull was online and didn't seem too rabid, ie might have been a Mumsnetter)
And then there are the local thieves and low level vandals, who are happily breaking shop windows and carrying off whatever they can.

It reminds me of the way that minority, extreme political party members would jump on the bandwagon at things like anti nuclear protests, hogging the front of the marches, along with the publicity getting themselves arrested and hijacking the peaceful protests and getting them a bad name.

I think these men, if they were aware of or have an opinion about Mumsnet users, would despise and denigrate us. It’s hard to think of two demographics which are further apart.

I can think of two other demographics who despise and denigrate women, and who frequently rear their ugly heads on MN, so why not another one? People hell bent on incitement will use any online method they can, and MN is often used in this way.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/08/2024 17:26

So newbies are not real MNers - wow that puts us in our place - we have obviously failed because we don't have the right attitude and voting record.

If the cap fits, you're welcome to wear it.🤷‍♀️
If you're here in good faith, great. Some new posters very clearly aren't.

blacksax · 05/08/2024 17:26

Oh they are here all right, hiding in plain sight, and just occasionally posting the odd comment on threads like this one. I've seen several posts today which clearly had an agenda. If I see any more, I'll start reporting them.

That's kinda the impression i got, although interestingly, there is a thread about JSO protesters saying they're all wronguns too

ExtrovertedIntrovert1 · 05/08/2024 17:02

Nope but live near somewhere where they were rioting and so saw a few posts "advertising" the time and location.
All, without exception, look like absolute scum with the IQ of a peanut.

Just saw one today trying to justify the violence because apparently the immigrants were at the windows mooning and sticking middle fingers up at them... It was "all peaceful" til then apparently.
I'm not sure how they expected the immigrants to react to the angry mob shouting smashing up the place they're living. Smiles? Bringing cups of tea and custard creams on a tray for them all??
I know how I would have reacted and it would be far worse!!!

My feeling is that MN is far too left wing to ever be involved. I don’t think anyone on here would do this.

'MN' is not a homogeneous group. There are people with many different viewpoints. And quite a lot of the inflammatory or 'innocently questioning' posts in the last week have been from new accounts ... not 'MNers', just people using the site for their own ends. Doubtless keyboard warriors who don't dirty their own hands and who think they'll never be held accountable.

Guavafish1 · 04/08/2024 23:08

I agree.

See there is a lot of white supremacy on this site

Absolutely appalling thing to say. White supremacists are in the USA.

This is a majority white country, believing in and supporting its culture and tradition while respecting others is not far-right or white supremacy.

I would say MN and the majority of the media are left-wing - if you look at how they report things.
What I find hard to take is the double standards applied to those who live in this country.

AvrielFinch · 05/08/2024 15:09

I see some Posie Parker supporters supporting the rioting, although they do not call it that.

Turning magenta through raving is not the same issue as being denigrated on the basis of the skin colour you are born with. It's a temporary state, owing to a particular emotional response. You can look up the term, which clearly explains its meaning, and you are splitting hairs (why? in order to deviate from the very real issue that is the ugly racism at the root of these riots?)

Only you know. My criticism is a criticism of behaviour, and the demographic who are very clearly, as plain as the nose on your face, indulging in that behaviour. Look at the headlines of any newspaper in the country. There is no clearer evidence you could find.

Based on skin colour. Which is why you can only use it in relation to Caucasian people. It’s not as bad as other racial slurs but it’s along the lines of ‘Karen’ and ‘ok boomer’ and I guess you consider yourself too classy to use those?

Then it’s based on skin colour isn’t it? Of course it’s not the same - but don’t you find slurs based on skin colour or appearance unacceptable, full stop? I do.

It is not a 'skin-colour based slur' at all. Unless you include a rush of blood to the face when shouting abuse.

It's a criticism of behaviour. And a justifiably earned one, when we are talking about the incendiary racist commentary currently infesting this site.

Oh - you are claiming it's 'just the same', right?
