Current riots

Sorry this is probably the millionth thread about this and apologies for posting on aibu but here are my questions about this riot and feel free to widen my horizon:

  1. Why has the tabloids suddenly taken a turn in their reporting? Didn't they encourage this situation from the start and in general creating division and hatred on a daily basis up until now?

  2. Why are they reporting these people as thugs and mobs now after publishing daily hatred to stir things up and that has prepared and encouraged them for what's happening today? Are the editors now scared that they will be held accountable if they continued stirring?

  3. Why are our politicians silent about this (apologies if they have condemned it, I don't use x/twitter) particularly the ones like Suella and Priti Patel and Nigel Farage who have actively worked hand in hand to create this situation again a bit like show. Create a scenario, rehearse with them, dress them up for their roles and put them on stage and suddenly back off once the lights come on and the show starts. Shouldn't the directors of this show which are of course the tabloid editors and our politicians be held accountable for this shit show?

There are plenty more things I want to add but cannot process it right now but I hope this thread creates a civilised discussion. I will probably dip in and out as I finish tending to my lo's needs, so please don't think Ive left the discussion. Btw, I am so ashamed of these people, so ashamed to call myself British.

This has nothing to do with the killings of the 3 innocent girls. This is mostly people we see out and about who are projecting their life failures living as rejects in our society that have been failed by austerity, poverty, addictions, generational trauma and lack of opportunities. As a non white British person, I believe these people weren't racist, they became racist by our leaders and media and they were used by them for their own agenda.

I fear for myself, my children and many others who are in the same situation scared to go out who are law abiding citizens. I can see the bigger picture and I know it's not going to work on what they have actively worked on to create division.

Some of those comments are brilliant! 'booked her to move a couch but she sent it to Rwanda'

Ah! this is the woman who didn't answer her door to the police [must be a mumsnetter] so they kicked it in, completely wrecking the door- it's all over twitter too

Karma

1 and 2 - they stirred things up because they thought that would mean they could sell more papers. Now they don’t want to lose readers. Newspapers exist to make money.

3 - They don’t want to alieniate potential
voters or link themsleves to the riots

The Daily Mail are experts at posting a story knowing full well it will cause a reaction, then posting more articles condemning the reaction that they helped create. They do it all the time with posting deliberately unflattering photos of celebrities, then the next day a story about 'celebrity hits out at cruel online trolls who fat shamed her'. It's just more clicks for them and more money.

On a related note, did anyone see the lady in the pink shorts pushing a large bin at the police? Her business page has been found and some of the posts are hilarious. I'm not usually one for a social media shaming but she probably deserves it.

Also the absolute weapon that got hit in the head and balls with bricks by his fellow thugs. Talk about instant karma.

NeelyOHara1 · 04/08/2024 19:38

I think the seeds for this were sown in the 90's with globalisation which has lifted many people in developing countries out of extreme poverty (good) and made corporate oligarchs insanely rich (bad) and thrown a grenade under living standards in the West (also bad). Why people in developing countries living standards can seemingly only be raised by others elsewhere having to be lowered is the circle that must be squared somehow.

I agree with what @NeverDropYourMooncup said. I knew and went to school with plenty of these people. They were vile then and they are vile now. Their parents were the same. I assume they are teaching their kids the same stuff although I haven't seen any of them in a long time.

Contrary to what several people are saying on this thread these were not people bought up in poverty. These were middle class kids at a nice church school with parents who worked in the police service, Navy etc etc. The worst one had a father who was very high up in the Met. There were a few from council estates sure but I was born on a council estate as were most of my family and we aren't racist thugs.

Do we have Nan Against Nazis opposite number visiting MN?

Flibflobflibflob · 04/08/2024 19:09

I was thinking about the two tier policing thing, We saw trans rights activists regularly hounding women who met to talk. There was also violence and threats but very little seemed to be done. Yet some women got a police visit for pointing out the obvious which is that transwomen are in fact men, not violent or threatening just saying stuff. I’m inclined to believe that sometimes groups are treated quite differently.

I think the policing around rotherham really sunk into the public consciousness tbh. I think it really broke trust.

I also think there is a difference between having a sensible conversation around migration and whether our asylum system is fit for purpose, that we should be able to have without insults throw and being an actual nazi. Can’t believe I’m seeing nazi salutes, people seem to have forgotten what side Britain was on.

JackRabbitSlim · 04/08/2024 19:08

Seriously. The pro-Palestine marchers DID NOT LOOT, COMMIT ARSON, DESTROY PERSONAL AND BUSINESS PROPERTY OR ATTACK POLICE AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC.

It isn't two tier policing, it's acting appropriately against criminals. Stop with the victim card already, us white British people aren't a repressed, badly treated group, nor are we second class citizens. To say so is embarrassing.

Unfortunately for you and others like you this particular so called dog whistle has been proved by the police in a very short space of time. We have had riots in Leeds and protests in Manchester as well as marches in support of Palestine all met by a soft or non existent response by the police and a call for talks with community leaders. The police have only come down hard on the so called right wing demonstrators. Police should act without fear or favour. They quite evidently do not.

How has it been proved?

The Police have made arrests is Leeds.

What protests in Manchester are you talking about ? We have a lot of peaceful protests

Pro-Palestinian marches .. which ones of thier ended up with looted shops and burned libraries ?

There is NO two-tier policing, the Police respond to the thuggery of the crowd.

People might be trying to peddle the “Oppressed White” narrative, but it’s utter piffle

Looking forward to the arrests, so they get 6 months in clink to reflect if it was worth it for a bath bomb.

ghostyslovesheets · 04/08/2024 19:03

*The police have only come down hard on the so called right wing demonstrators+ yes - because they are the ones looting, smashing windows, burning down libraries, throwing bricks and bottles, burn police vans, pulling police of motorbikes to hit them with metal bars etc - that's how the law works

You are entitled to gather and protest - you are not allowed to break the law

cupcaske123 · 04/08/2024 19:02

You're absolutely correct in that this has been inflamed for some time by the right wing press. All I heard over the election was immigration. Immigration was blamed for 14 years of Tory misrule.

The country has been gutted and the Tories pointed the finger at the people they were letting into the country. Braverman and Cameron didn't help with their swarms of immigrants rhetoric.

We don't have an independent press in this country and this is the result. People don't get to read alternative news. Farage also helped whip this up.

Pity none of it is true.

Why isn't it? The kids of the far right groups of the 70's are all adults now it's not hard to imagine that they would be following in their parents footsteps. What do you suppose those kids whose parents are taking them to the current shit-show are getting taught at home.

Do you think this lad is being brought up by racially tolerant parents?

There is no Two Tier Policing - that’s a right-wing Dog Whistle…

Papers & Social Media types are back-peddling, as they know that they can be charge with inciting or conspiracy.

The people involved will be treated the same as the London rioters… they will be crying in the dock as they are sent to prison.

Thing is they raise their heads every few years … Mosleys lot, NF, BNP, EDL .. kick off for a bit, then disappear again

I actually swooned watching it for the 1000000th time

Nice distraction from the right wing bots

Do you think the riot in Harehills was caused by far right thuggery? I can tell it wasn’t And the police response was totally different from what it has been over the last few days. One of the things that would help stop these riots would be if the police were seen to act “without fear or favour” like they are supposed to do. Two tier policing is never going to lead to a harmonious nation.

"Two tier policing". That tells me everything.

JackRabbitSlim · 04/08/2024 18:55

GrannyRose15 · 04/08/2024 18:50

Pity none of it is true.

No explanation why?

I would call dragging people out their cars and setting buildings on fire thuggery. I'd be extremely wary of anyone who did not.

They are just small, inconsequential people who feel temporarily powerful as they chuck a brick at a policeman. It will fizzle out as previous riots have done. They don't speak for the vast majority and nobody wants a country run by far right thuggery.

Whenwillitgetwarm · 04/08/2024 18:44

As I said on another thread, I’m abroad and these images are being cast worldwide. It’s shameful and disgusting. These thugs aren’t patriots. Most of them don’t work or work cash in hand to avoid paying taxes. They are drunk parasites.

The government should immediately release non violent, non sexual and offenders with less than 6 months to go to make room for this lot. A special force should be set up to comb through footage and send this lot down for longer than the JSO people.

These nihilistic thugs and their shitty views have been allowed too much airtime and they have dragged our country down into nastiness. It’s now time to stop listening to them and start locking them up.

The cities smashed up by these thugs should also instigate class action law suits against Suella Braverman, Tommy Robinson and Nigel Farage. They are grifting shills for backers abroad who wish our country harm and promote terrorism for this is what these thugs are - terrorists.

Another thread about rioting from white British people. Nothing like this happened a few weeks ago with rioting in Leeds. Not a peep about machete fights in Southend. Videos from people calling themselves the Muslim defence league are flooding twitter with swords and machetes and other weapons openly in the street.
Are the media going to report any of the above as much as they have the apparent edl riots.

I saw the Machete fight in the papers .. so hardly not reported.

Loads of reporting about Leeds … difference there was that the Leeds disturbances did not lead to a co-ordinate number of attacks across England.. burning libraries, assaulting people of another colour, attempts to burn people alive, and looting.

They aren’t “apparent” riots, they are “actual” riots, of White Nationalists, Far-Right, Racists (and term along those lines).
