just curious really. DH and I have never done this, and I wondered if that is the norm?

Yes for a very boring and slightly odd reason - he has a long comm home on the M1 through roadworks and traffic is bad - if dinner is almost ready and he’s not home it’s handy to look where he is and decide if I’m going to wait for him or just eat by myself!!

aside for that, I use it to keep half an eye on him while he’s doing his sport - he had an accident a while back while miles from home and it made things easier to go and get him, he’d hit his head and was confused as to where he was exactly.

CurlewKate · 04/08/2024 06:36

It's telling that there are standard reasons people for doing things that are "off" and we all secretly know they are absolutely rubbish. "We have tracking so I can have dinner on the table" "He tracks me so he knows I'm safe" "I only smack my children when they run into the road or put their fingers in an electric socket"....

Newhere5 · 04/08/2024 06:34

Only when I’m about to get home ( so i can have hot drink waiting for me) :)

flyinghen · 04/08/2024 05:57

If my husband of is on a long journey we sometimes do, mainly so I can watch where he is and count down the minutes until he's back and I can have a break from the kids lol! We barely make long journey so this is rare.

Other than that no

SharonEllis · 04/08/2024 05:52

No way! Its just weird.

BigMandyHarris · 04/08/2024 05:46

I have no problem with location sharing but the Arlo doorbell camera pisses me off tbh

minisoksmakehardwork · 04/08/2024 05:42

Yes. We share with the kids too. It was great when dh broke down as I knew exactly where he was and could tell him how long it would take to get to him. He could also see how I was doing getting to him.

With the kids we can see where they are when they ring to say they'll be late cos their school bus has broken down (again). They use it to see where we are on our journey home from work. We've used it to see roughly what time they're expected home on school trips etc.

We've also used it to gauge what time to put tea on so it's ready when either of us get in from work.

Neither of us have any reason to hide our movements though so there's no trust issues for us to worry about.

BigMandyHarris · 04/08/2024 05:42

Yes we do and it has nothing to do with ‘trust’ in our situation.

If you worry about your partner knowing where you are, you have problems.

If you need to check where your partner is, you've got much bigger problems.

Sorry you're in that type of relationship, have you considered leaving?

mrssunshinexxx · 04/08/2024 03:20

We do as he works away in a dangerous job with a lot of driving it pits my mind at rest somehow although I can honestly say since he set it up I've never actually checked it

icclemunchy · 04/08/2024 02:20

I do with both my partners, I have a fair few medical conditions which could leave me unresponsive so it's mostly for safety. Although we all use it occasionally to see where each other is. Usually because we'd like something picking up and can see who's closest!

Also have the kids on there, eldest with her phone now she's starting to go out and about. Youngest with her tablet so when she can't find it we know which house/car we're looking in 😂

PeloMom · 04/08/2024 02:12

We do. I don’t know if others do it and how common it is.

Heartofglass12345 · 04/08/2024 02:12

No but neither of us go out much. But I still wouldn't feel the need to, it just screams of mistrust to me.

Jellybeanz456 · 04/08/2024 02:01

SparkyBlue · 03/08/2024 16:11

Yes and I only use it to check if he has left work so I get dinner started

Can he not just text an say I've left?

It’s never once occurred to me that this was a thing couples did. I’ve literally never thought of it.

I just asked DP if he’d ever thought of it, and he looked at me as if I’d gone insane. He then said it sounded like something that the husband would set up without the wife’s knowledge in a psychological thriller where it turns out the husband was the mystery stalker all along.

@KreedKafer 🤣

@BluebellsareBlue I’m opposite with walking the dog, it’s my escape from family life! I sneak out with the dog sometimes. We do live in a city with well-lit streets though.

I regularly go hiking by myself at weekends and commit the cardinal sin of doing so while being single and having no one monitoring my movements. Maybe I should stay at home just in case 🙄. Even if I was in a relationship with someone who cared to keep track - highly unlikely - I think it would spoil the whole thing for me. If one were going somewhere very remote or dangerous it might be wise to tell someone where you were going and a rough return time but I confess I've never done so. I'm probably a bit more cautious now with dependent children but once they are adults I certainly will do more of what I want and won't be telling anyone..and if the worst comes to the worst, well we all have to go and I'll have lived life on my terms and freely. That to me is everything.

Sounds great. What a free spirit. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise Hmm

You know talking on the phone and not being aware of your surroundings is actually more of a risk?

What's your point? If there was no location tracking, wouldn't you be even more inclined to call? So are you against calling each other as well?

Gogogo12345 · 04/08/2024 01:41

I share my live location with OH if I'm doing a long journey. Saves him texting about what time am I likely to get back ( usually he's cooking)

Day to day I don't bother. I don't think he's ever shared his

blueshoes · 04/08/2024 01:38

Wonder what @PommelHoss could have said or done for their posts to be completely expunged from this thread.

Edingril · 04/08/2024 01:33

No there is no reason we are grown ups and communicate

Changingplace · 04/08/2024 01:28

missshilling · 04/08/2024 00:02

Or is it that you just don’t want to know where he is because he might be up to no good. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be so worried about sharing your location.

Honestly! Have never heard of such paranoid nonsense.

Don’t be so silly 😂 I think some of it also a generational thing, if you’ve grown up pre internet tracking it’s much more normal to have no desire or need whatsoever to track anyone, it’s the complete opposite of being paranoid.

We do, he drives long distances for work and I walk the dogs in the dark. He'll text me to tell me he's on his way home and doesn't like to call when driving ( due to accident iver 15 years ago) so I, if I feel he's a lot later, can check he's ok. He watches when I'm out late with dogs for the places I can feel spooked and calls me when I'm walking through them. We live the app

MyPeppyTaupeFox · 04/08/2024 01:25

We do and honestly it's really handy. We can see how far each of us is from home (so can time dinner perfectly for example!) or just tap to get directions to each other. My husband works on the road so it means I can see he is safe even if we're apart for a few days. We can also just check in with each other without actually speaking to one another. It was exceedingly reassuring recently when I had an accident and was waiting for him to get back (as well as the ambulance being enroute) as I could see his progress while I was lying there and knew he would be home soon. Some days I don't look at it at all and other days I'll check it several times for whatever reason. It's never "checking up" but more "checking in".
