just curious really. DH and I have never done this, and I wondered if that is the norm?

My whole family are on Life360. It's really useful for safety, lost phones, travel etc.

Absolutely no control or trust issues here either, and weird to suggest there is for everyone who uses the app. We just like it and find it helpful.

I feel maybe the people saying it's about control could do with questioning their own relationship! Surely it's only about control if you're with someone controlling, or are in fact controlling yourself!

LoneHydrangea · 03/08/2024 16:36

Yes, we have done for years. It can be really useful. My husband is a mountain-biker and can be gone for hours. As he’s broken bones before, coming off his bike, it gives me the odd bit of reassurance if I can see he’s still moving!

It was also very helpful to him once when I was involved in a serious car accident and knocked unconscious. He was able to see where I was located and was by my side when I came round.

We don’t have anything to hide from each other. I find it odd when couples say it’s anything other than helpful.

FrongiLea · 03/08/2024 16:36

Yes we all share but no one is constantly watching another person's movement. Plus it has helped us find Dh's phone on more than one occasion, in the house, in the car etc. The kids also use it to track us picking them up from friends or pubs.

I forget I'm sharing but then get notifications saying remember you are sharing your location.

Lentilweaver · 03/08/2024 16:35

I travel solo a lot, so after Michael Moseley's tragic death, I was wondering if I should. But I don't go to remote areas, so probably not.

skippy67 · 03/08/2024 16:35

Me and DH don't. Our DC who are in their 20s share theirs with their OHs though. But weird IMO.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 03/08/2024 16:34

Don’t have a h but live with my adult/teen kids. We don’t share location.

We only share for specific reasons like ds has gone to his dad’s (4 hours away) and I want to know whether to get dinner on

CurlewKate · 03/08/2024 16:34

We do. Because we're consenting adults and we-for some reason-find it funny. We didn't track our children.

How do you know who "usually" does anything? Do you know all the people who use it?

jf1992x · 03/08/2024 16:33

Yes, but not sure we would if it wasn't for his job. He's a farm manager and constantly in the middle of nowhere by himself. I like to be able to know where he is if god forbid he had an accident etc. Not sure I'd be as fussed if he just worked in an office.

I just asked him and he said he likes tracking us (me and kids) on life360 when I'm driving for peace of mind.

Our kids will definitely have it!!

housemaus · 03/08/2024 16:32

No, and both of us would say no if the other asked for it. If we needed to let the other know we were on the way home to get food on (which is the example people always give on here) then we'd text or call each other, and I can't think of any other reason why we'd need or want it.

Dazzylazzy · 03/08/2024 16:32

Yes but we have a farm so it’s handy to know where to deliver lunch too. DH can’t hear his phone over the tractor or combine and I don’t want to drive around the whole farm looking for him! Also useful to see if he’s heading our way at dinner time or if I need to put a plate together for him. No trust issues I know he’s on the farm but which field is anyone’s guess!

PoetryPlease · 03/08/2024 16:32

Never used too, but he and one child went abroad together while I stayed home and we shared location so I'd know where they were. Partly for safety but mostly so I could just be nosey and wistful. Haven't bothered switching it off since then. Don't really look at it, sometimes to see how close to home he is if I'm about to start making dinner.

GoldenRetrieverBert · 03/08/2024 16:31

No, wouldn't have an issue with it at all though and neither would he. I keep thinking I should share mine though as I often walk the dog rurally and think from a safety point of view it would be sensible for him to know where I am, esp given recent news.

He'd be very bored tracking me at other locations, I have a very boring (but happy!) life Grin

Mumofteenandtween · 03/08/2024 16:30

We do. (To be exact we track each others’ phones - not our physical bodies - so I could rob a bank or shag the postman in the local woods without dh being any the wiser as long as I didn’t mind being unable read mumsnet at the same time!)

It is very useful - kids are starting to become independent and it means that we were able to let them travel to and from school on their own earlier than we would otherwise as we can check they made it safely. Dh travels a lot so it means I can check how close to home he is and get food made at the right time. (Would also help me to know when to kick the postman out of bed!)

Best of all it means that when someone loses their phone we are able to say “well - it is in the house” and stop worrying.

Toptotoe · 03/08/2024 16:30

Yes - DH and I do and our grown up children. It’s especially handy for planning meals etc

Mickey79 · 03/08/2024 16:30

No, that’s intrusive.

Tittyfilarious · 03/08/2024 16:30

We have a family circle on like 360 so yes

Couldyounot · 03/08/2024 16:17

Yep, plus DS1 (18). Useful for ETA and "sorry, you want picking up where??" purposes

Yes, this. We’re all quite happy with it, no one uses it to police each others activities, we just find it useful.

Lentilweaver · 03/08/2024 16:29

No. I have no idea where he is right now.

MereDintofPandiculation · 03/08/2024 16:29

We don’t bother to switch the facility off but we don’t usually use it. Only time is if one of us has gone for an appointment and the other decides to meet them for the walk home. Much more amusing to try to intercept someone on 5mins old info than do the boring thing and ask them where they are Grin

BotterMon · 03/08/2024 16:27

Absolutely not. DH has just been away for a week and we spoke once plus a about 3 Whatsapp messages. We are independent adults. I find it really creepy. It wasn't available when DCs were young but can see why it's useful for under 16's.

mynewusername2023 · 03/08/2024 16:27

Yes we do.

Lillycc · 03/08/2024 16:26

Whenever these posts come up, why is there always people who have to criticise other people because they choose to use these apps? Fine if you don't want to use them, but why throw shade at people who do?
