just curious really. DH and I have never done this, and I wondered if that is the norm?

We do as dh is self employed and it was just so annoying trying to work out where he was, when he would be back, disturbing him when he was in the middle of eg painting, mowing, up a ladder etc. I can see how far away he is.

Means I can get off the sofa 5 minutes before he is home and look busy!

Joke. Not really joking Easter Grin

It's certainly controlling to track children. It does nothing to make them safer and stops them learning how to manage themselves when outs.

Bluebirdover · 03/08/2024 16:52

Absolutely not!

We do as dh goes hiking most weekends in remote areas. I never check it but if he had a bad accident and couldn’t walk, like the guy who broke his hip and wasn’t found for a few days, I would be able to check hi location.

Yes, and find it really useful if we're meeting somewhere etc. Neither of us has anything to hide!

persisted · 03/08/2024 16:51

No.
He would like to but I think it's an unnecessary invasion of privacy so don't. As I'm not a small child or a possession I don't see the need.

TrixieFatell · 03/08/2024 16:51

Nope, we don't even track the kids. I find it intrusive

Bobbotgegrinch · 03/08/2024 16:49

Not a bloody chance am I letting anyone track my movements, not even DP.

(Yes, I know Google et. al. likely know everything. I'm talking about individuals.)

ohtowinthelottery · 03/08/2024 16:48

Good grief no! Why on Earth would we stalk each other like that.
I tell him where I'm going and roughly when I'll be back, if he's around when I go out. He does the same - as does adult DS who lives here. But I wouldn't want to be tracked.
I went away recently for a couple of days with an old school friend, to meet up with another old school friend. DH knew which town I was going to and how I was getting there but didn't know the address where I was staying nor everywhere we were going whilst we were away. I also didn't know what time I'd be home so just whatsapped when I was leaving to make the return journey.
I have a friend who tracks their family members and vice versa. She gets messages from her adult DD saying things like "what are you doing in Marks and Spencer ?". No way would I put up with that!

So the people who share are controlling
And the people who don't have something to hide?😀

Pretty much how every one of these threads goes.

I'm happily married, no secrets, no control issues

But, no way would I allow anyone to track my movements

And, I worry that, as it becomes more normalised, women in abusive relationships will be pressured to agree to it. I can just imagine men saying "well why wouldn't you, if you've nothing to hide?"

Yep!!

My friend has it for this exact reason.

He says to her that if she doesn’t have it on then she must be up to no good.

Choochoo21 · 03/08/2024 16:46

No it’s absolutely not normal.

The usual excuses are knowing when to put dinner on.

I remember one woman on here saying she likes to have her DHs tea on the table as soon as he walks through the door, so she regularly checks it so she can time it right 🙄

I’ve never heard a good excuse for having it on all of the time.

lovelyhat · 03/08/2024 16:43

No - personally I find it creepy/intrusive.

Topseyt123 · 03/08/2024 16:43

Normally no.

If we are away on holiday and need to meet up in a town or area we aren't that familiar with then we do because it is useful. This usually happens because DH likes to hire a bike whereas I like to get the bus or walk.

Otherwise we don't.

Conniebygaslight · 03/08/2024 16:43

Yes we all have 360. My DH cycles a lot so it offers a degree of reassurance. Our young adult kids are on the family circle too, none of us have any issue with being on it at all.

Epli · 03/08/2024 16:42

Only when cycling.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 03/08/2024 16:41

Yep. And kids devices. Rarely look though - only if I can’t get hold of him and it’s urgent.

SouthLondonMum22 · 03/08/2024 16:41

Absolutely not. No one needs to know where I am 24/7, even my husband.

I also value my privacy.

boyohboys · 03/08/2024 16:41

We do and was set up when our dc got their phones - now age 16 & 18 but still trackable on findmyiphone if needed. As others have said it's used mainly for dinner prep or where to pick up kids but not something we use regularly. If either DH or I felt it was intrusive or being used to check up on the other I'd be coming straight off and reassessing our marriage

Lentilweaver · 03/08/2024 16:40

Michellebops · 03/08/2024 16:38

We do!
Nothing to hide and we don't spend all day checking up on where the other is.
We also both have our daughter.

It came in handy once when my partner lost his phone. We tracked it and found it.

MissCherryCakeyBun · 03/08/2024 16:37

Yes we have absolutely nothing to hide from one another. I couldn't give a monkeys jump if my husband knew where I was every minute of the day I have nothing to hide and in a happy normal life sharing relationship why would you be concerned that your life partner can see where you are....and we both feel like this.
I have a 2 hour each way commute twice a week and if anything were to happen to my car and I didn't have a phone signal or charge for some reason I stand a chance of getting home 🤣.
It's very normal for us and our family our 2 girls share their locations too and they are adults as are their partners and husbands so it's just a total no issue.

Those that feel it's intrusive to their privacy could you explain more as I'm interested in what's private from a life partner?
