just curious really. DH and I have never done this, and I wondered if that is the norm?

Not our phones but our car has GPS so we can track where the car is on the app.

TheSerenePinkOrca · 03/08/2024 20:55

No. It's creepy and controlling.

It wouldn't cross my mind to share as an adult.

Fair enough to check kids location. It means i can relax as I know my teen hasn't missed his bus to school!

GinAndBeerIt · 03/08/2024 20:52

It's not something that we've ever thought about.
If we did have it, it would look like I'm mostly at home because half of the time I forget to take it with me when I go out somewhere anyway.

Gobimanchurian · 03/08/2024 20:46

We are all on find my iPhone (me, DP + 3 teens). My eldest has other friends locations and her iPhone as reciprocal for nights out.

It's useful to understand where everyone's at (making dinner, teens out at parties, getting off the tram and needing a lift etc).

DoAClassicCamel · 03/08/2024 20:44

Our DD shared her location for one weekend when she was 18 at her insistence when she went to a festival with friends. Apart from that I have never tracked my children or my husband. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. I don’t agree with it but I can accept a parent you want to see where your child is but once they’re adults their wishes should be respected if they don’t want tracking.
I don’t buy the rationale to track your spouse or partner so you know when to put the dinner on. Surely they can send a text or call to say they’re on their way. I wonder how many people abuse the apps by effectively stalking their significant others.

RhubarbAndFlustered · 03/08/2024 20:39

Yeah, it's handy when he's heading home from work and I need to meet him at the main road so I can get the car to go to work myself. I know if he's hit traffic and if I'm going to make work on time. Also he does a hobby where it's safer if he can be tracked as it involves being in the middle of nowhere up in the hills. Definitely no mistrust reasons. If I ever saw him at an address I'd more likely think, "Aw sweet, he's made a friend!"

TubeScreamer · 03/08/2024 20:39

No.

I would hate to be tracked.

CurlewKate · 03/08/2024 20:37

Some people need to buy new kettles. Mine boils in the time it takes to take your shoes off and wander into the kitchen....,

LoneHydrangea · 03/08/2024 20:04

Or even 'hear hear'. 😃

Haha yeah, too busy stalking my husband and making his dinner 🤣🤣🤣🤣

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 03/08/2024 20:26

Yes, we can see when the other is on the way home and know when to put the food or kettle on for when we come through the door.
I also do long walks or day cycle rides in quiet areas and DH can check in now and again to see where I am on my route.

Bunnyasmyname · 03/08/2024 20:25

How is everyone doing this? Through Find my Phone?

BeerForMyHorses · 03/08/2024 20:20

We do as we have life 360 for when the kids started playing out/walking home.

I rarely check it.

RaraRachael · 03/08/2024 20:18

Never heard of this snd wouldn't do it - no need to

meganorks · 03/08/2024 20:16

No. Although I did recently think I might try and go out on bike rides in the day. And then thought I should probably do something then in case he just comes home and I'm not there and in a ditch somewhere.

TikehauLilly · 03/08/2024 20:14

Omg I'm getting too invested

Brief example :

Text: I'm leaving work should be on 42.

Then as we know what time 42 gets in and we need to wait for a bus then walk up the road .... no-one needs to text
"off tain / train late / waiting for bus / on bus / busy / off bus" or whatever. (And no I don't need a running text update either!!)

And yes we could wait and start dinner/ time it / text "when is your eta"

But it's just easier this way

The dinner "excuse" as other posters refer, is a mere example of how it's used for mundane life events not the cheating, controlling, stalking, un trustworthy notion of the "non users/ sharers"

Or she not just he. Finding out if on the road works both ways. Especially with jobs that are dangerously and unpredictable finish times, can't be. Othered to ring text or bother the other person as they have lives too and like me who live in the middle of nowhere so my phone signal is crap but my maps seem to work much better

I love how the "know when to make dinner" has become an excuse in other posters minds, for what I don't know!

To be clear - we are all not glued to the app 24/7 like you seem to suggest. It's just there and on. No issue. Not checked constantly and definitely not pinging.

This is farcical - do share / dont share doesn't mean anyone is right / wrong/ controlling or cheating

It's not keeping an eye on each other, honestly why does it bother people so much.
I have tea ready when DH and DS get in from his club, I don't have to, I don't get abuse if it's but ready but I like to as everyone is hungry. He doesn't text me as he's driving and would forget anyway.
I feel safe if I go for a run knowing DH can see where I am should it be needed.
We don't sit looking at our phones tracking each other constantly.
I really think there are some super paranoid people on here.

Catza · 03/08/2024 19:52

No. I am perplexed about everyone tracking their other halves to know when to start dinner. It is faster for us to text than for one of us continuously check whether the other person left work. And even if we left work, it doesn't mean we are heading home. I find this practice really strange and I don't want anyone to keep an eye on me like that. I'm not a child and neither is my partner.

namechangetheworld · 03/08/2024 19:24

Doesn't take much of an imagination to conjure up the idea of an affair to be honest. 20% of the population has been caught out done it!

Yeah, affairs are clearly on your brain.

Monkeybutt1 · 03/08/2024 19:52

Bluebirdover · 03/08/2024 18:08

Of course they do.... it's just a convenient excuse to say that's why they have to track their OHs because of..... rubbish!

Don't speak for me please!
I don't use Strava and it's my choice to let my husband see where I am and I can see where he is. I also like a pp use it l to see if he's almost home and have tea ready. Not because I have to but because I want to and he does the same for me.
I go where I want to, when I want to but having location tracker on works for us and we track DS who is 11 and yes he knows and is happy that we do.
I don't understand why everyone thinks there must be a sinister reason.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 03/08/2024 19:48

Certainly helped him when he fell off his bike and fractured his collarbone and i could go find him and help.
