Michael Jackson

Why has Michael Jackson not been cancelled?

I don’t understand why a musical has been made out of his music, and why his music is played at school discos and is still everywhere.

After I watched the documentary where the men described how he raped them, I won’t listen to his music at all, in fact, I feel a sense of disgust when it is played publicly.

I don’t understand why we seem to have cancelled everyone else except him. Is it because he died before he was officially found guilty?

It's widely known that NOTHING incriminating was found on MJ's computers. But let's not let the truth stand in the way of a juicy story.

I have literally listed some of the police contents list from his bedroom. It’s clear you’re not even aware what that is.

What was found on his pc was adoption searches - looking for kids to adopt. Which was quite chilling in the context of adult porn and underage nudes.

Rummly · 03/08/2024 13:57

There was a fantastic thread on here a few years ago by a poster who was agitated about having a Rolf Harris record in a box in her attic.

No my love, wickedness does not seep out of the vinyl and take over your husband. 🤦‍♀️

Those allegations were a pack of lies, he never laid a finger on those little guys

What a load of horseshit. Have you watched the documentary? How can you be so cocky sure of that?!

Did you watch the cross examination said documentary went through? ... Neither did I, because the documentary wasn't made in a court of law. To hold someone accountable, there should be fair representation from both sides.

This is key for me. MJ may or may not have assaulted those boys, I honestly don’t know, and I’ve watched the documentaries, but why, why would you send your child to stay in house of a man that you basically do not know? I don’t care how famous he is, it’s just wrong. And this also goes for the parents of Usher, who allowed their child to live with Diddy.

Because Jackson was world renowned as being like a child. He was seen as innocent and asexual. He had a fairground. He was very childlike and people viewed his behaviour as innocent. He was seen as a Peter Pan who loved children.

Lilysgoneshopping · 03/08/2024 13:56

Simple reason: his music brings in too much money for it to cancelled

IKR. Because he groomed the families of the boys as much as the boys themselves.

By the sound of it there are mothers on this thread who might make the same choice to send their kids to stay with a star they’re certain he’s innocent.

Fame does weird things to people.

Gary Glitter
Rolf Harris
Huw Edwards
Jimmy Saville
R Kelly
Eric Gill (niche!)

70’s/ 80’s toptp is pretty much unbroadcastable.

And Ian Watkins

It’s interesting that mothers, who are presumably super careful about paedophiles and what influences they expose their children to in real life, throw it all out of the window for a global superstar.

A global superstar with drug and alcohol problems who is on record as sharing his bed with boys. Whose bedroom contents itemised by the police included adult porn jumbled in with arty books of child and teenage nudes, even a child’s pyjama bottoms with blood on them.

I used to feel very uncomfortable about listening to Michael Jackson’s music when he was still alive, because I believe the people who say he abused them and I didn’t want to support him in any way.

Now that he’s dead I don’t feel the same way about it because he isn’t around to benefit from any of the profits of his work. Anything that is made from his music now goes to his estate, which supports his children. Nothing he did was their fault and I’m sure they suffer too as a result of being associated with him, so I feel fine about them benefiting from his music.

Well his whole family benefit and so do Sony - so that’s really peculiar logic.

One of his sisters spoke out saying she believed the kids and talked about her own sexual abuse at the hands of her father, and she was rapidly shut down.

x2boys · 03/08/2024 13:51

Even if MJ was just a complete odd ball and everything was innocent
He certainly mentally abused those boys showering them with attention, money, affection ,building them up on a pedestal and then dropping them as soon as they reached adolescence .

BeaRF75 · 03/08/2024 13:50

Re Michael Jackson, probably none of us know the truth. And it's perfectly possible to enjoy his music AND still feel that you wouldn't have wanted your young sons to be around him. The two are not mutually exclusive. That's the point.... work and individual are viewed separately.

Ah so only if they’re talented they don’t get cancelled. Gary Glitter should have written better songs

Frankly, I don't think it's good to "cancel" anyone. People are punished by the criminal justice system - there's no need for the rest of us to get on our moral high horse. But the quality of someone's output is obviously going to affect their legacy, purely in terms of the work. So, yes, most people would agree that Caravaggio was a better artist than Gary Glitter was a singer, ergo his work will endure longer.

Because mj fans are incredibly obsessive about him and his mediocre music.

I love me some "mediocre" MJ music.

DiamondGoldandSilver · 03/08/2024 13:45

I completely agree! I change the radio station whenever his music comes on as it just makes me feel sick now. I think it’s wrong that there is now an MJ musical in London.

Say what you like about the weirdo and his fans, bizarre to suggest his music’s mediocre.

That poster is absolutely correct, his music is mediocre at best.

lemonyellows · 03/08/2024 13:44

I think things would be different if it happened now. With social media.

It is odd he is still idolised.

Michael Jackson was found innocent by a court

and how many times are there wrongful convictions both innocent AND guilty.

The answer is it happens all the time. The legal system certainly isn't fool proof.

Just because he was found innocent doesn't mean jack shit. If you're wealthy and let's face it, Jackson was a cash cow for a great many people, it's not surprising he was found innocent.
