Point is the boxer has different sex chromosomes to women so can have more testosterone and in their case are as strong as man physiologically

Meaning it's very unfair on the other women boxers with the usual female sex chromosomes being XX and men XY

Khelif allegedly has XXY and has chosen to identify as female since a child

Charlize43 · 03/08/2024 11:56

I've never really understood the drag artist thing.

I have gay male friends and none of them look like this and one recently was very disappointed that the institution he works for had decided to have an LGBTQ social evening and had promptly hired 6 drag queens... He works in the Financial sector, so not even in fashion or musical theatre or cosmetics, etc.

If anyone could explain to me (I'm 57, soon to be 58).

Narwhal23456 · 03/08/2024 11:55

Misogyny runs rife everywhere... every facet of life unfortunately.

EpicGem · 03/08/2024 11:52

The IBA could easily tell everyone what tests they did that the 2 boxers failed. They have consistently refused stating privacy concerns. These privacy concerns extend to the 2 boxers who haven't even been informed of the specifics of these "gender tests". So it's a bit difficult to appeal a ban when you don't even know exactly why you've been banned beyond a vague description.
Interestingly, their president isn't bound by such concerns, seemingly as he's free to tell all to Russian media outlets. Or just blatantly lie knowing he won't be contradicted. Depends on how cynical you are about a boxer who has been fine to compete for 6/7 years suddenly failing a "gender test" after beating the only Russian boxer in a competition run by a mostly Russian organisation and sponsored by a massive Russian company (Gazprom).
The IOC have testing rules which cover both chromosome and hormone levels. Khelif passed the IOC tests.
Oh, the IBA has also just given Carini a lump sum out of the kindness of their hearts because they felt sorry for her. Such lovely people.
And all this information can be found fairly easily online.

protectourchildren · 03/08/2024 11:51

Doing a cheek swab is less intrusive than a COVID test ffs. Why won't these boxers just do this if they're female?

Over 80% of female athletes are in favour of cheek swab sex tests. Why won't the IOC do this given it's what women competitors want? Because they're institutionally misogynistic? They want to see women harmed?

protectourchildren · 03/08/2024 11:48

The IBA statements are publicly available and very clear. They are the most authoritative information. The IOC has done no sex tests, they're basing inclusion on what's written on a piece of paper, which we all know can be changed quite easily and does not necessarily reflect reality. The BBC has chosen to repeat unverifiable conjecture rather than read out these statements, failing in their duty as a public broadcaster.

Sadly I think it might take a woman dying at this point. The misogyny is breathtaking.

The IBA have said several times both boxers failed two sex tests, these boxers could do cheek swabs now to prove they're female. They haven't done so. Neither boxer challenged the IBAs decision which they had he right to do via an independent body. So they accepted the IBA ruling.

The IBA have also said including these athletes is dangerous to women. The IOC clearly don't care about women's safety.

I hope if a woman is seriously injured or killed that the IOC officials who've ignored this clear warning plus the evidence, proving the IBA point, in Carinis match, will be held personally criminally responsible.

Indeed. It's only a matter of time until a woman is seriously injured.

I only read newspapers. I just said noone knows what conditions they have. That is the point. All we know is they have always been considered female and were banned by a Russian led organisation and that they didn't do a testosterone test.

The IBA did sex verification tests that they say revealed XY chromosomes.

Your "understanding" is based on what you've read online from other Wot I Reckoners (like everyone else here) because no one knows what condition(s) the two boxers have. No one is saying the boxers are "trans". Most women on FWR know what DSDs are because it's the number one gotcha argument by trans rights activists.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2024 11:34

The IBA, whether you believe them or not, have stated that they disqualified both for failing gender tests. They define gender in terms of chromosomes, not self identification or testosterone levels.

protectourchildren · 03/08/2024 11:32

The IOC clearly gives no fucks about the almost certain retraumatisation of van de veldes victim by their actions. She was 12. It's active support for paedophilia.

There will also be a non paedophile athlete who will have been excluded due to his inclusion.

My understanding is that the boxer is not trans and was born a women. Noone seems to know why the IBA banned her but I think it was mid tournament which is dodgy. Also the headquarters of the iba is in Russia and she had beaten a Russian opponent. Unbelievable that a poster thinks she should give details of her medical history to prove herself too. It just shows how toxic some people on MN are.

'Van de Velde's inclusion in the Dutch team has been criticised by women's and safeguarding groups.
He is not staying in the Olympic village and will not do any post-match media.
There was extra security around him when he arrived in Paris with the rest of the team.
In previous interviews with Dutch media, Van de Velde said: "I can't reverse it, so I will have to bear the consequences. It has been the biggest mistake of my life."

I expect his victim also resents having to bear the consequences of his 'mistake'.

"They are intersex"

There is no such thing.

Jamazon1 · 03/08/2024 11:20

Ladyzfactor · 03/08/2024 11:10

The boxer that everyone is upset about isn't a man. They are intersex. Completely different. They are not, and have never been trans, or male. They were born biologically with female genitalia. They do tend to have more testosterone., but not much else different. But mumsnet loves to get upset over trans issues so I'm not surprised about the misinformation.

There is no third sex. We are all either male or female but some people have DSDs which can result in a misleading understanding of sex as observed at birth. However, puberty often reveals sex and if you’d like a short explanation of the most likely situation with the boxers I recommend Dr Emma Hilton, a developmental biologist, on this topic. Her tweet is a clear, concise explanation

The Olympics should be amazing for girls and women - a chance to see how strong and dedicated and courageous women can be, great role models, exciting competition.

But I just feel it's all soured.

Please stop repeating this lie, there is no evidence that this is a woman with a DSD. The boxer themselves could prove this and put the whole thing to bed, they’ve chosen not to. The IOC ‘s eligibility qualifiers seems to be purely based on an F in their passport, which we know men can get.

Dont you ever stop and ask yourself, where are all the men with DSDs in the mens competitions? Why is it always the womens? Why are they always winning?

I agree OP, the arrogance displayed by the IOC over this issue also tells me that think they’re above being challenged.
