We can have an argument about whether she is rightly described as “female” or “male” but that would be semantic (and pointless):

"Semantic" implies "concerned with meaning".

"Female" and "male" mean something and have consequences.

This isn't just "arguing about words"

Again, let’s stick to the facts

The facts, based on what we know is this person has male pattern chromosomes.
Meanwhile, they were assigned female at birth and raised female.

These are the facts (as we know).

We can all agree on them.

you can therefore call her male - I wholly disagree- either way it doesn’t change these set of facts.

These facts do not disqualify this boxer from the olympics under the current rules.

you can take issue with the rules but stop attacking the person . They abided by the rules.

The boxer that everyone is upset about isn't a man. They are intersex. Completely different. They are not, and have never been trans, or male. They were born biologically with female genitalia. They do tend to have more testosterone., but not much else different. But mumsnet loves to get upset over trans issues so I'm not surprised about the misinformation.

They may not be a man BUT they are male, not female and definitely not women. They have male chromosomes so biologically they are male

Rustnot · 04/08/2024 21:03

@GargoylesofBeelzebub can you put a link to the report please?

Regardless of what it may or may not say, my personal opinion is that the way in which you have posted on this topic has been hateful and divisive.

And I've explained why those are truths. Not insults. Whereas what cookie called me was.

Just to clarify I agree, I shouldn’t have said you were being a penis (well, the other word for penis) and mumsnet were probably right to remove. Sorry. I’ve read a lot of AIBU posts on here which uses it casually, like ‘oh she’s a dick op, don’t worry’ so I didn’t think it would be so offensive.

Your photo (not your writing but the writing on the meme) used the word to refer to a penis that begins with d, and I referred back to it. I thought it would be okay as when you used it in the photo, it was approved.

Do you really not get the difference between saying someone has a d*ck and saying someone is a... 🤔 One's an insult, ones not . HTH

Nice you're doubling down on it though in your "apology"

@Cookiecoop please don’t worry, we can all read and it’s plain as day what is going on here and who is behaving badly.
xx 😘

Oh my god! The results of the tests have been shared! Two independent tests show they are MALE.

they showed she had usual male pattern chromosomes (we think).

having male pattern chromosomes does not disqualify her from participating in female boxing in the Olympics under the current rules.

From what we know this is a person who is legally female (since birth) with a DSD.

Do you understand what a DSD is?

Mumsnet really is having a bad day today. The vitriol!

Women's rights to safety and fairness in sports matter to a lot of people. Lots don't want to see women being punched by males. Wild I know!

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 04/08/2024 20:54

I think I felt a bit insulted when you suggested I was embarrassing myself, didn’t have an adequate education and didn’t understand basic biology.
Please point to my posts where I said those things.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 04/08/2024 20:53

Rustnot · 04/08/2024 20:52

@GargoylesofBeelzebub but you don't know all the facts. You can't know them. Nobody knows them. So they are insults. And again, I didn't condone you being insulted either. But you simply cannot tell me that you know with 100% certainty the outcome of any tests that have or haven't been conducted. So you don't have facts. You have opinions, and based on those opinions, you have insulted someone.

Oh my god! The results of the tests have been shared! Two independent tests show they are MALE.

Also please show where I have insulted anyone or ask for your posts to be deleted.

Oops, sorry, I think you posted this as I was posting my message. I just want to clarify and clear the air.

I get that you don’t like being called a word like penis though so again apologise. I can see you really don’t like penis related stuff (not saying you don’t like actual penises, I don’t know your personal life) so it was insensitive of me. Again sorry for using offensive d word.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 04/08/2024 20:52

Rustnot · 04/08/2024 20:46

I think the words used are liar, cheat and woman beater.

They have previously been disqualified. Independent tests deemed them to be male. A simple test would determine what they are. If they have participated in this sport knowing that they are indeed male, having gone through male puberty, then they are a liar, cheat and a woman beater.

Let's wait for hopefully a test shall we. If they refuse then questions should rightfully be asked. Women's safety should not be gambled with in this way. Ever.

@Ticktockk vitriol is the word I was missing. It's really sad that there can't be a debate without it. It's wholly unnecessary.

Well funnily enough women get very angry about males punching females.

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 04/08/2024 20:48

@Tandora you keep saying you are qualified in relevant areas to know a fair bit about the discussion on DSD

Surely you can make an educated - and anonymous so no credentials at risk - guess as to what disorder you think the two boxers may have, that would cause XY chromosomes and increased testosterone?

Rustnot · 04/08/2024 20:47

We can have an argument about whether she is rightly described as “female” or “male” but that would be semantic (and pointless):

The facts are she is legally recognised as a woman. She was assigned female at birth and raised female. She likely has male pattern chromosomes. There are many DSDs where people have male pattern chromosomes but are assigned and raised female. People might argue we have to call them male because of their chromosomes, I disagree, but rather than arguing about words lets stick to the facts.

she met the qualifying criteria for the olympics. There’s a legitimate conversation around whether that was the right decision. there is no legitimate basis for calling this person a liar , cheat and woman beater.

Edited

And yet tested and disqualified from female competition. So I don't think you're actually backing up an argument that she's a female with a DSD. What you're actually saying starts to sound like the opposite.

However, I agree that internet speculation is pointless. Let Khalistan or the IOC commission a test and put paid to all the speculation.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 04/08/2024 20:46

I think there seems to be a cross over in this conversation with the transgender debate which is heightening tensions.

For me it’s about the IOC sanctioning men hitting women. It’s really as clear as that. It’s not about the fairness of their arm length in a game of ping pong. It’s about their ability to cause a female component a serious head injury that could result in an immediate life threatening injury or neurological conditions down the line which happens for many sports people who have repetitive head impacts. I am furious that paper pushers have decided to gamble with women’s health in this way. Are hiding behind Russian conspiracy theories when they could have just ordered the appropriate testing and ensured XX females were fighting XX females.

Safeguarding first and foremost always.
