But sex is more than your genes. You have to take into account genes, physiology and hormones.

I will not take lectures on the non existance of DSD and intersex individuals.
And I strongly disagree with the statement that a male was fighting a female in this case. Two women fighting each other, one with a possible DSD which may mean they should not be in the same category. But two women.

Obviously DSDs exist, that's the whole and entire point.

What's your understanding of 5 ARD? You do understand it only occurs in males?

Another one who skipped Biology lessons at school. There is still time.

XY = male
XX = female

Anything else is just whataboutery aka flat earthism.

Well, speculatively...

Genes - XY
Physiology - virilisation means male puberty may have "overwritten" any erroneous decisions made at birth
Hormones - testosterone dominant

No, she has been raised female, after being proclaimed female at birth.
Whether later in life it turned up that she has XY, how can anyone be blamed for that?
She will not be male, but intersex. Not a man, still a woman.
Also, following the rules.
You do not like the rules, so advocate to change them.
But address the athlete as woman.

Addressing a male as 'she' is deceptive and confusing, given the context.

I won't take lectures on being 'kind' while men are sanctioned in beating women for money and entertainment.

And if she wants to be addressed as a woman/ female, which is the case, I will.

Intersex is not a helpful term. All people with DSDs are one sex or the other.

No one is 'blaming' Khelif for having a DSD, but that doesn't change the fact that the two gender tests undertaken have concluded that they do not qualify for female competition.

And we're all advocating as strongly as we can for the IOC to reimplement sex testing. They appear not to be listening however.

Nobody is being blamed for that, but it means that he is male.

(If you don't understand why, try reading one of the many threads which explain clearly.)

world’s gone fucking mad

Who said anything about political correctness? I'm talking about basic sense and reason.

"Will people stop saying I've got 2 legs? It's not my fault the limbs I was born with."

TheKeatingFive · 04/08/2024 21:32

HipTightOnions · 04/08/2024 21:26

you can take issue with the rules

That is rather the point.

Exactly. 'The Rules' are basing sex classification on documents that we KNOW may not be accurate. Why would anyone with a brain not take issue with the rules?

Tandora · 04/08/2024 21:32

HipTightOnions · 04/08/2024 21:28

On Khalif, the boxer, could you please stop refering to her as a male? It is not her fault the genes she was born with.

World's gone fucking mad.

TheKeatingFive · 04/08/2024 21:30

She was deemed to be female at birth, raised as female, has fought previously as female. She is intersex, at best, not trans gender. She seems to be a borderline case, as one organisation has allowed her to compete, while other has not (apparently, for high testosterone levels at the time of testing- which some XX individuals also have). The XY chromosomes results, apparently that test was never published and I do not fully trust the source.

Why wouldn't you trust the source? It was the CAS that oversaw the testing. Which was not, for accuracy, testosterone testing.

Your photo (not your writing but the writing on the meme) used the word to refer to a penis that begins with d, and I referred back to it. I thought it would be okay as when you used it in the photo, it was approved.

Do you really not get the difference between saying someone has a d*ck and saying someone is a... 🤔 One's an insult, ones not . HTH

Nice you're doubling down on it though in your "apology"

I would definitely prefer it if someone called me that word than posted an image of my intimate body parts on the internet and suggested I was lying about being a woman.

I would consider calling someone a penis mean but not bullying. I think posting pictures of someone’s crotch and saying they have a d”ck, with the intent to embarrass them, is bullying.

again, sorry I used the word.

MushMonster · 04/08/2024 21:25

I do not agree with the rapist and paedophile to be allowed to compete, at all.

We could discuss bringing back the XX/ XY test, combined with hormone testing in future, but Khalif should not be referred to as male/ man. Neither blamed, she is following the rules.
I think Carini should have raised her issues before the fight. There has been other fights with Khalif and at least they touched gloves and acknowledged Khalif after the fight. Plus thay threw a good number of punches to each other.

On who carries the torch, I have zero issue, whatsoever.

cathyandclaire · 04/08/2024 21:24

Virilisation- sorry autocorrect!

cathyandclaire · 04/08/2024 21:22

Assuming it's ok to box with XY chromosomes at the olympics, does anyone know the rules for testosterone levels in boxing? An individual with a DSD and vitalisation would naturally have an endogenous testosterone level at male levels unless medically suppressed.

I believe the top 5 competitors are routinely tested for doping - although I am in no way accusing the two boxers of doping.

The Olympics barred women from the ski jump till 2014. Apparently, fear of the risk of uterus damage. Eddie the Eagle was fine, but women? Heaven forfend.

"Woman" is defined by passport at the Olympics. That means self ID in most of the world. Bonkers. Kindness is great, as is inclusion, but what about kindness to all the girls and women who have dedicated the years of their lives to achieve, only for a physical advantage no training nor skill can redress to boot them? Literally excluded.

Also: why no long distance endurance events? Women excel at those. We can beat males. Yet the Olympics have none.

thank you!!! What an excellent question, For the love of god let’s ask more of these questions!!

This is what feminism should be doing- (instead of tearing itself apart at the seams, trying to police the boundaries of womanhood)

Well as this is the first olympics with equal numbers of male and female athletes I wouldn’t necessarily agree.

but if you dislike the games you could just not watch? Not follow along?

DelilahBucket · 04/08/2024 21:15

I haven't read the whole thread, but yes, and we only need to look back at the history of the Olympics and what female swimmers were made to wear in order to be allowed to compete (which incidentally were see through when wet 🙄), to it to see nothing much has changed.
