They are not protestors. They are not protesting. They are common or garden thugs and criminals who are causing criminal damage, setting police offices on fire and attacking police officers.

Total scumbags.

I very much doubt any of them have a job. And any that do will be sacked straight away if identified "protesting" by setting fire to stuff or abusing police.

I imagine many of those trashing the city tonight will be the same people complaining that the city centre is a mess. There is an amazing new entertainment space opening tonight on the opposite side of the river that’s had a huge investment and a mile away this is happening.

They've been in Liverpool tonight as well. Loads more riots planned for tomorrow, one in my home town so I'll be staying indoors.

This is what concerns me. Lots of comments about “this is what happens when the government fails to listen to the majority”.

The news coverage is being very carefully curated, I assume to minimise potential social contagion. Deprive the arseholes of oxygen / exposure. Which could go either way - either they'll get bored or they'll double down. Given that the police and judicial systems are underfunded, undermanned etc they have to get it under control somehow because the knock on effects are going to cost alot if money, not to mention the emotional cost and community disruption.

It's a bloody tragic mess. I feel for the locals. If I wasn't on the South coast I'd bring a broom.

It seems a lot like copy cat rioting, it happened a few years ago in London, lots of looting and damage. It does seem to be escalating.

They don't. Bad faith actors on the Internet exploit whatever they can to make it seem as if we are more divided than we are. Even with that, 90% of users disagree.

Ignore it. They are cunts. The majority don't agree. Less than a month ago we voted for a centrist, non divisive government and that tells you something

Many of them are young scrotes just wanting to cause trouble with the police. Sunderland does seem to have a particularly bad infestation of them (as does my area) I live a few miles away and know the town well. It's going to kick off massively all over the country this weekend. Scum.

Could not believe the footage on the BBC news, referring to "protests" and "protestors". So inaccurate.
