They are not protestors. They are not protesting. They are common or garden thugs and criminals who are causing criminal damage, setting police offices on fire and attacking police officers.

Total scumbags.

No they are doing it themselves no one is to blame for what they are doing except the idiots doing it

These things don't happen in a vacuum.

There seems to be some female counter protestors in Liverpool. I'd think more women are in sympathy with Pat than otherwise.

A defiant Scouse pensioner took to the streets of Liverpool to defend a mosque from 'far-right protesters' amid another night of rioting in Britain.
Pat, 71, was part of the counter-protest that gathered on West Derby Road on Friday evening to oppose a planned demonstration outside the Abdullah Quilliam Mosque.
The grandmother from Toxteth, Liverpool was carrying a 'Nans against Nazis sign'.

We can thank Tommy 10 names, Nigel farage, Lee Anderson Darren grimes etc for making these thugs think that their racist views are acceptable

Terry Pratchett once described the IQ of a mob as the IQ of the thickest person divided by the number of mobsters. Accurate I would say.

Farage bears a lot of responsibility for this. He's an utter disgrace.

He's loving this, will be treating his fans to another flag flanked propaganda video when this weekend is over.

I'm so upset and angry about it that I want to do something, like the counter protesters in Liverpool. Form a protective ring around a mosque or something. I want to counteract the evil.
It's visibly male violence. It would be nice if women could unite and rise up against it. Sadly from what I've seen on social media there are plenty of women who agree with them wholeheartedly.

I bet you anything you wish that these thugs have been in and out of prison before.

And I bet loads of them are domestic abusers and absent fathers though the latter is a good thing given the way they behave

to think these people in Sunderland are not "protesting".
PandoraSox · 02/08/2024 23:25

I don't dismiss the idea of agents provocateurs, but if there are some they are not on the frontline of the riots or in government offices. They are in a room somewhere in another country, tapping out hate on a keyboard.

Just adjusting my tin foil hat!

Yes these people are yobs and should be put back in their box with some jail time.

But why are they protesting in Sunderland? I don't think it's all racism and far right shit, there's a great deal of entrenched poverty in Sunderland and Nissan can't employ everybody in town.

I can honestly say that it is the most deprived place I've ever been to in the UK and that's going back decades. It opened my eyes to the great disparities that exist.

It's the sort of place primed to riot for any reason - not just for narrow-reasons like racial hatred but for being forgotten for far too long in the wealth-distribution scheme of things.

shams05 · 02/08/2024 23:24

Apparently there's a whole list of places where they've planned protests over the weekend and beyond.
There was one in Liverpool as well today outside a mosque.
Thankfully they looked small in number, just a bunch of drunk thugs and there was a large number countering them.

StressedAndDepressed1 · 02/08/2024 23:23

I find it very interesting that none of this mob turned out when Lucy Letby killed multiple babies, and was found guilty in court.

Yet when there's a rumour floating around on social media they can mobilise to smash up multiple towns and cities.

I live in Nottingham and lots of businesses have announced that they are going to close tomorrow as we are one of the cities that is likely to see trouble. This story is being covered in our local media and the comments make me want to weep, racist, threatening, unreasoned blathering about the "silent and good people who have had enough" Does anyone honestly think that if the person who has been charged with this atrocious crime were white we would be seeing any of this despicable behaviour.

EmeraldRoulette · 02/08/2024 23:22

Iamonsocialmediatoomuch · 02/08/2024 22:58

It seems a lot like copy cat rioting, it happened a few years ago in London, lots of looting and damage. It does seem to be escalating.

Yes the copycat thing is a problem. There was a point during the 2011 riots where it became clear to me that the news had suddenly stopped. It was around 10/11 pm and I was getting reports from colleagues all over London whose high roads were being smashed up - but the reporting suddenly stopped. They fixed on Clapham and stayed there after it calmed.

Even LBC, which was predominantly a London station at that time, was no longer taking calls from people who could tell you where to avoid going. I then realised that this was a policy in order to stop copycat rioting.

Obviously now social media is more in use, the copycats have greater access to information about where to go next. and they will use media where the messages disappear immediately in order to lead the group onto the next specific locality.

I nearly posted on a different thread about this, yours in fact @MistressoftheDarkSide - to say the level of orchestration here is extremely high. The organisers have been waiting to unleash this for some time. And much as the London riots were terrifying, this looks worse.

Twitter is riddled with people with pics and blue ticks encouraging it. Not people we know. People whose accounts have been up a few months. Likely not even real people. All posting in sympathy for the thugs.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 02/08/2024 23:21

PandoraSox · 02/08/2024 23:20

I honestly don't think that the government is secretly trying to encourage the rioters in order to bring in draconian laws, , which seems to be what wayfairer seems to be implying.

Probably not, but very little would surprise me these days.

PandoraSox · 02/08/2024 23:20

MistressoftheDarkSide · 02/08/2024 23:17

The concept of "agents provocateurs" is not a new thing and not implausible.

No this is a tiny minority, many of whom are not local, and are in no way representative of the majority of honest, law-abiding Mackems. I think the hundreds of people getting up early tomorrow to help with the clean up will show who the real locals are.
