There are a lot of things about this country I'm fed up with, yet I have never thrown a brick or set fire to a police station.

If only we had in the UK some mechanism for choosing who governs us. Perhaps elections where anyone is free to stand and test how popular their views are.

I note that Reform hasn't exactly been quick to condemn this rioting and violence.

Farage hasn't said much at all about the riots in Parliament, but he's been quick to get on Twitter and stoke the rumours that "the police and hiding things about the Southport suspect." Whip 'em up online, don't lift a finger politically where he might have to back up what he says - that's Farage all over.

Time for Reform voters to stand up and say "Not in my name," if they've hopes of the party having any staying power.

There was an MN site invasion by Sunderland fans some years ago. Most were a bit dim but some were genuinely funny. One or two MNers went and joined their forum.

Why do people keep saying they are not being "listened to"? We literally just had an election. Too bad if you didn't get the outcome you wanted, but that's life. Protest peacefully, petition, engage your mp. We all have the same voice. They can't start smashing stuff up and scaring people if they don't get exactly their way. No buts about it.

@TattiePants Sorry you and other communities are having to put up with it. We're not in the North East these days but my DH is a Mackem and has said pretty much what you've said. It reminded him of the days when the casuals would turn out for a fight not football. Living near Roker in the 70s and 80s put him off football for life. But they didn't represent Wearside then and they don't now.

Not even protests. They had a zoom meeting to plan a protest. That's what they were jailed for.

It’s disgusting, it’s thoroughly depressing actually as they’re so thick and aggressive there’s no way to even reason with them. I’ve seen some horrible comments on social media, most can’t spell the word immigrant and can’t distinguish between legal immigrants, refugees and illegal immigrants. There’s loads of people justifying it as well, all spouting the same shite from social media. They are not protesting they are rioting. Protesters don’t bring beer cans and lob bricks.

It’s male violence dressed up as a ‘protest’. What’s sad is that in the last few weeks there has been some horrific cases of male violence in the news, the poor woman murdered walking her dog, the 3 women murdered with a crossbow. No protests for those cases though.

And the poor children and families in Southport. The thugs that rioted there didn’t think about whether or not any of those families lived on the street they tore up, or owned one of the cars they set fire to. Didn’t think about the fact that the police were busy trying to sort out the aftermath of the attack and they’re taking resources away from that, or the fact that they have put pressure on the hospitals treating affected families. Or that the police they’ve injured might be friends/relatives of the families.

These thugs have made an absolutely tragedy into a race/religious issue and used it as an excuse to push their hateful agenda and then they have the cheek to say that this is how everyone in the country is feeling when it’s not at all.

But aren’t loads of the rioters and vandals from out of town? Sounds like a travelling circus of violence to me.

Maybe because they're fed up that no one in government is listening to the people who pay their salaries. They're fed up being ignored.

Water cannon isn't legal anywhere in the UK other than in Northern Ireland. So it's not an option for the police.
