Help me annoy our neighbours

Lighthearted (ish!)

I don’t say this lightly but we have the most truly horrible couple (‘young professionals’, although they don’t act like it) that I have ever met living beside us - even since the day that we moved in they have completely blanked us, anytime I have simply waved over or said ‘good morning’ I get ignored. In the 4 years that we have lived here neither of them have ever even made eye contact with me. It is bizarre and I have no idea what their problem is. I feel like they automatically see us as below them since we are renting (I have just gotten through a messy divorce, it is only my very sensible teen DD and I living here)

They have constant, wild parties going on into the small hours. It’s a 1930s semi so very poor sound insulation - we hear everything. I went round and politely knocked their door one Friday party night as DD had just had an operation and really needed her sleep - the door was slammed in my face. Their Range Rover (definitely heavily financed) is constantly parked right over the pavement, forcing buggies and wheelchair users onto the busy road.

They are vile people and I want a petty yet harmless way to get my own back when we move out in a few months. Any ideas?

Why? Just why? You're moving out, why create?

You do realise that shit-talking about them doesn't paint you in an amazing light?

Well, yes. You are very judgemental and sneery and again, how do you their car is on finance?

Just get on with your own life and hope that karma one day bites them in the arse.

I believe there is an online facility to request a visit from Jehovah's Witness to discuss a pressing question or bible story...

6 am drum practice.

It’s not a crime to not want to speak to you. It’s all a bit petty to me.

You will have to keep notes on parties and dates, times etc. Then, council do nothing. As for the car. What odds is it to you what car they have or how it’s purchased or leased? If the street is narrow maybe they are letting ambulances and fire engines through? Probably would be the same with a smaller car. This just seems to be green eyes and incompatible neighbours. Did they not invite you to the parties?

Pavements are for people to walk on

How are people with buggies/ small children/poor eyesight/wheelchairs supposed to manage?

Cattery · 31/07/2024 22:17

Grow up. Leave them alone You sound very bitter

AInightingale · 31/07/2024 22:14

If they are party people you need to make as much noise on a Saturday and Sunday morning as you can. I'd recommend powerwashing your driveway, bins and fence starting at 8 am, moving on to hedgetrimming at ten and strimming at eleven. Every week. Make sure it's something that won't get you in trouble with your landlord, I wouldn't advise blasting music but keeping the place looking nice won't give them anything to base a complaint on, while pissing them off while they're suffering.

Newposter180 · 31/07/2024 22:14

YABU for thinking they’re judging that you rent… whilst judging their car finance!

ineedtogwtoutbeforeitatoohot · 31/07/2024 22:12

Egg the car when you leave.

We went to Belfast for the first time recently and have never come across friendlier people!

We live in an area apparently known for friendly people, but Belfast folk wowed us, we loved it there and found everyone so eager to help, to chat, and really friendly.

They've done amazingly well to overcome their history and create such a strong community so welcome to visitors!

Thank you - I’m proudly Belfast born and bred. The NI that DD has grown up in vs the one that I knew at her age is unrecognisable - amazing progress has been made.

Don’t be childish.

Report the antisocial behaviour and footway blocking if it bothers you. Apart from that, schemes of petty revenge are pretty moronic.

ChangeEmailAddress · 31/07/2024 22:10

Write a random word on their lawn not at all related to you leaving in (proper glyphosate) Round-up. It'll take a day or two to show by which time you'll be gone.

The majority of NI is indeed a very friendly place and is holding onto peace despite the numerous threats to destabilise.

Yes - Wanted a bit of back up from a fellow NI dweller that we aren’t all blowing each other up as that poster seems to believe..

You obviously haven't had any antisocial neighbours.Sometimes a bit of tit for tat, schadenfreude does you good.People like this only understand this sort of response.

Well you're wrong. My neighbour opposite is an aggressive, bullying cunt, who has threatened and intimidated me for the last 5 years, but only when my husband is out of course. Just because I have a different opinion to you, and am not an immature dick who thinks it's a good idea to get childish revenge, doesn't mean I've never experienced antisocial neighbours.

Cabincrew1 · 31/07/2024 22:08

Mash up a tin of vegetable soup and put it on their path to look like vomit. Sign up for as many free information packs to go to their house.

@NeighbourTrouble63 Just in case history isn’t your strongest subject, the Troubles in NI with numerous murders and bombings didn’t indicate to many of that NI was a friendly place. Somewhere not to go for decades. No go areas etc. eg Shankill and Falls Road areas. International crime victimization survey finds most crime in NI is by local people on local people. So now we have this thread….! Says it all really.

We went to Belfast for the first time recently and have never come across friendlier people!

It is so amusing to read the indignant posters who have financed cars themselves objecting to the OP. It is very obvious to everyone (except those who have finance on their own cars) that the OP feels her neighbours look down on her as they are trying to appear wealthy and superior to her. I've no idea whether she is right or not but if they are paying back a car every month, they do not have the wealth they are trying to portray.

OP My neighbours have a fire pit which stinks so much I can't open bedroom windows at night or hang out washing.

tabulahrasa · 31/07/2024 22:06

Some of these ideas are very OTT… I was going to go much pettier with changing your router name to something aimed at them 😐

curveofcarus · 31/07/2024 22:05

Vaseline on car door handles??

Waffle78 · 31/07/2024 21:57

Morning after party make as much noise as you want. Music on full blast hoover upstairs. Get DH to mow the lawn at the same time.

MonsteraMama · 31/07/2024 21:53

May I recommend the album Throat by Little Women? At the sort of volume that will make their furniture bleed?

When I worked in retail it's what I always put on five minutes before closing to get people to leave.

Prawns in any accessible air vents.

On the Range Rover?!

TroysMammy · 31/07/2024 21:50

If they don't have cctv or a ring doorbell but they do have an outside light you could paint the word "cunts" on their front door in glow in the dark paint. They won't see it but eventually visitors or passers-by will.

Pure genius.

A warped and bitter, twisted mind. I'm impressed.

PassingStranger · 31/07/2024 21:52

Grow up and move on.
Loads of us have to deal with bad neighbours
thetes no guarantee you won't have bad neighbours where you move to either.
Move on.

You sound so immature and full of spite. It's better for your own health if you let go of these negative feelings, and let go, you're moving. You've no reason to feel so childishly bitter about these people.

You obviously haven't had any antisocial neighbours.Sometimes a bit of tit for tat, schadenfreude does you good.People like this only understand this sort of response.
