Help me annoy our neighbours

Lighthearted (ish!)

I don’t say this lightly but we have the most truly horrible couple (‘young professionals’, although they don’t act like it) that I have ever met living beside us - even since the day that we moved in they have completely blanked us, anytime I have simply waved over or said ‘good morning’ I get ignored. In the 4 years that we have lived here neither of them have ever even made eye contact with me. It is bizarre and I have no idea what their problem is. I feel like they automatically see us as below them since we are renting (I have just gotten through a messy divorce, it is only my very sensible teen DD and I living here)

They have constant, wild parties going on into the small hours. It’s a 1930s semi so very poor sound insulation - we hear everything. I went round and politely knocked their door one Friday party night as DD had just had an operation and really needed her sleep - the door was slammed in my face. Their Range Rover (definitely heavily financed) is constantly parked right over the pavement, forcing buggies and wheelchair users onto the busy road.

They are vile people and I want a petty yet harmless way to get my own back when we move out in a few months. Any ideas?

I’m having a vent on an anonymous forum.

But you are also asking for suggestions that will upset them??? Says alot about you. As others have said, there are formal channels to report matters re parking/loud music

Pipecleanerrevival · 31/07/2024 21:35

They sound horrible. Definitely leave twenty some wind chimes in the garden before you move out. And start a rumour that you won the lottery and gave all the friendly neighbours an expensive holiday.

bostonchamps · 31/07/2024 21:35

What's the status of their car purchase got to do with anything though?

Throw bird seed or similar near and over their Range Rover! See how they like the white and yellow splats.

I like this. A caravan parked up in a very inconvenient spot in a village near my brother. Bird seed was thrown on top nightly for a week. Hint was taken, caravan was moved.

Find the landlord, they are almost certainly breaking their tenancy agreement with the endless noise.

@NeighbourTrouble63 contact your local Orange Lodge and request they give your neighbours a personal concert at 7AM after one of their parties. Play Ian Paisley recordings at full volume.

That’s a step too far 🤣🤣

We had the TUV battle bus driving round with pre-recorded messages from Jim Allister playing last month. The neighbourhood has suffered enough 🙈

I hear you OP, I’ve had some shockers on the neighbour front - playing really loud surround sound movies at 3am, the lot. I would go down the early morning noise route, especially morning after after the parties. Really ramp it up. Speaker next to wall, loud bass pumping. Go out ‘oops’! Or ring the doorbell at 7am for a realllllly long time and walk off. Fill their bin with your rubbish.

If they have a loud late night party the week before you leave, keep ringing the doorbell every 15 mins and shouting ‘turn it offfffffff’ - very cathartic and will embarrass them nicely (as well as you but who cares)

Is there a local area / neighbour group? Could call out the parking on there anonymously. Or leave a note to the front calling them selfish see you next Tuesdays

Not sure what’s so hilarious for you.

Run a key the length of their car whilst out for a late night stroll.
Turn some opera on at full volume, then go out.
Take up the drums.

Truly shocking suggestion re car key. Disgraceful

A wave hello over the fence in the mornings when they’re leaving the house at the same time as me is creepy? It’s not. It’s called common courtesy and being friendly. I can assure you that I’m not a curtain twitcher, nor do I go anywhere near their door if I can avoid it.

Im in NI, we’re a friendly bunch. To not acknowledge someone would be considered rude.

Edited

😂 Really?

You sound so immature and full of spite. It's better for your own health if you let go of these negative feelings, and let go, you're moving. You've no reason to feel so childishly bitter about these people.

Lilysgoneshopping · 31/07/2024 21:31

Invest in a metal trolley with a few sharp edges then push it past their car parked on the pavement "accidentally" gouging a big scratch down the side.

cherry2727 · 31/07/2024 21:31

I think they made a very wise decision not acknowledging you - you sound very judgy!

So you're not going to do anything?

SweetcornFritter · 31/07/2024 21:28

Get a yappy dog, that’s the most annoying thing any neighbour can do to another.

Despair1 · 31/07/2024 21:28

NeighbourTrouble63 · 31/07/2024 21:05

I’m not horribly judgmental - I know blatant rudeness when I see it (and a financed Range Rover). They are the nouveau riche type and judging by their conversations (which sadly we hear far too much of) they want the world to know about it.

Why is it relevant that their range rover is financed? Why does it matter to you?

Your DD needs to learn the trumpet or bagpipes and practice is best done at 7am after the neighbours have had a party. I had noisy bastards living next door and thoroughly enjoyed playing Wagner operas at them the morning after their parties. Rock music with me jamming along on bass guitar was also quite cathartic.

I highly recommend the trumpet.

My NDNs are vile. Lock their 3 dogs out 24/7, never walk them, never clean up their yard so in thia weather it stinks an there are flies everywhere. Load music, screaming rows at all hours. And then have the nerve to complain that about noise of a dog barking when I am not home. I know categorical it isn't my dog as she goes to my parents when I'm at work bit they didn't know that.

My dd wanted to take trumpet lessons at school...my dad used to play so he gave her his trumpet to practice on at home. Even with the muffler in it makes a racket at 9am on a Saturday morning agter one of their epic screaming matches and loud 3am music sessions 🤣

Part of me is impressed, they are in their 50's. I am.in my 40's and can't cope with the late nights they do!!

SusieTrevelyan · 31/07/2024 21:27

The 1812 overture at full volume or Ode to Joy at an ungodly hour.

Mummy2mybear · 31/07/2024 21:26

I personally would not waste anymore time thinking about this it will not help you they could not care less about you, probably forgot you exist and don't give you a second thought they don't care it will acheive nothing but more problems your moving on anyway concentrate on what matters.

TheThreeCheesesOfTheApocalypse44 · 31/07/2024 21:26

I once podged an old mobile phone behind a chest of drawers against their bedroom wall with an alarm set to go off at 3am every morning.......then fucked off on holiday for two weeks.......we had extremely thin walls which those absolute dickheads had no respect for.

Why? Just why? You're moving out, why create?

You do realise that shit-talking about them doesn't paint you in an amazing light?

After the early morning hoovering, perhaps you have a lot of junk mail to shred? Carefully position it against the wall as you shred everything you can think of.
