Aibu to agree to an extent?

German refugee charity warns 'integration has FAILED'

In a bombshell interview, staff at a leading youth organisation in Germany have said the continuing influx of refugees means the system is at breaking point. They called for a 'freeze' in admissions.

Agreeing with the overall decline which drug you was mentioned as part of that. My original point still stands so that you are suggesting a failing education system, drug use, homelessness are all due to failed integration in Germany

I did not mention drug use so stop insinuating I did. I'm also going to ask you to politely refrain from replying to me personally on mumsnet. I do not wish to converse with you any longer especially as you have misquoted me.

💯

Post of the day. This sums up the problem beautifully.

I have a foot in both camps my Mum was white and my Dad was from a commonwealth country and arrived as a documented economic migrant in the 1960’s.

The issue is both the far right and left. Now whilst the far right have had a riot and that is obviously bad the far left due to white guilt are really not helping the situation because every single time anyone shows any kind of concern they get shouted down as racist. It’s an actual problem.

The extreme left by shouting people down who have legitimate concerns have actually fuelled the rise of the far right. As unpalatable as that is it is most definitely an unintended consequence.

Extremes on either side are not good but the majority of people are centrist.

Calling out racism and discrimination is not far left.

Immigrant doctors etc DO enrich the country.

Currently there appears to be a lot who are not in those valued professions and drag the country down. The opposite of earlier generation migrants.

Which part of the UK are you that only has the new enriching migrants?

I didn't say that I lived in an area with only "enriching" immigrants. I was merely asking for clarification of who you mean when you say "they".

FWIW, I live in an area with a high number of asylum seekers. I'm guessing that they probably come into the "not enriching category according to your classification. That's not how I see them though...

I'm sick of the notion that ordinary people today are somehow responsible for what their lords and masters did in previous centuries. My forebears worked on the railways, in factories and before that were in service and agricultural labour. Colonialism was of no benefit to them

I didn't say you or any other individual is responsible. I made the point that the impact of colonisation is still being felt today in the countries that were colonised. It makes sense that those people want to move to places where their rights can be met.
I don't see that I have any more right to this country than they do just because I was born here. I haven't done anything to deserve it, it's sheer luck. I just wish people were honest in acknowledging that.

ViciousCurrentBun · 31/07/2024 16:27

People should read all types of media across the political spectrum. If they don’t they all end up in their own left or right wing echo chambers.

Oh. Usually a thread gets holey before it goes kaput. But if no posts cross the line how can the thread

And as much as many claim they do not read the DM it is a major bit of media in the UK. Mn taking down any threads linking to seems strange

@Lalalalalaaaa

"for the majority of the countries which are listed as 'extreme' the risk to Christians isn't because they're Christian, but because they've converted from Islam."

So that's OK then, is it? They've only got themselves to blame.

Christianity is indeed the most persectured religion in the world - not least of all in Islamic countries. Nigeria has the highest rate of murders against Christians with Christian women and girls frequently reserved for rape and trafficking. In Pakistan Christians are referred to as "chura" which means filthy. Here they are treated as inferior human beings on every level of society including education, employment and health care. In Palestine Christians are spat on and shunned and again, treated as second class citizens. The last Christian book store in Gaza for example was firebombed in 2007 and the elderly couple who ran it were executed. In Somalia, Yemen, Sudan, Libya and Iran (amongst others) being a Christian is tantamount to a death sentence.

Where did I say it was ok please? You've misquoted me. The OP provided this list as evidence that she personally wouldn't be able to practice her religion in many countries. It didn't support what she was saying at all. She has yet to provide evidence for her statement - apparently we should just google, although she herself hasn't been able to. She hasn't even listed one country that she is specifically referring to, let alone 'many'. There absolutely are countries that specifically don't allow the public practice of Christianity (Saudi for example) but I don't agree that there are 'many' or that it's actually a reason that we should be more restrictive over our own immigration practices.

Of course it's not ok to persecute someone because of their religion or (to be clear) at all. However, OP was saying that immigration has to be both ways, and because other countries don't accept Christianity the UK shouldn't accept other religions. I think regardless of what side of the immigration debate you sit, the idea that the UK should model its practices on how Christians are treated in the countries you describe

Nigeria isn't an Islamic country btw. It's secular and around half of the population are Christian. That doesn't mean there isn't persecution of Christians in the North in particular, but to describe the country with the largest Christian population in Africa (and one of the largest Christian populations in the world) as 'Islamic' is bizarre.

Haven't seen much evidence on here of hard left. Unless you put objecting to racism and bigotry in that box?

But yes, will be interesting to see how much far right nonsense MN is willing to tolerate.

Labels and boxes! If I say I am opposed to mass immigration and the building of more prisons does that make me far right? Trouble is, I'd also like to see less financial hardship. more council house building and reprivatisation of essential services. Bit woolly socialist that---plus I eat lentils. Some of us have not lost the ability to think for ourselves and we don't fit into the boxes

dottiehens · 31/07/2024 16:04

Funny enough there is a threat urging MN to look at this one or basically to delete this discussion as out of control racist. At the same time in the same thread above one poster is saying that at least is not all bad news as Maduro won the elections. 😡 A friend of mine was hurt fighting for their freedom yesterday in Venezuela. Only a hard left person who would still agree with the dictator stealing the elections. Let’s see how MN handles this situation of “far right “ vs hard left?

They are not adding a positive contribution to the country?

Does that include immigrant doctors and nurses? Care workers? Skilled professionals?

Which "they" are you talking about exactly?

Was his crime known to be related to his ethnicity? Just wondering what I blame for Hungerford, say, or Dunblane. Or what about the mass killings in Norway? He was definitely born and bred

You haven't answered this, OP, and I would like to know.

Mimififi · 31/07/2024 16:12

Dulra · 31/07/2024 16:09

Ok I'll highlight it more accurately for you:

Posters point
My DS is just back from a month working all over Germany. He was surprised at the level of open hard drug use in the street in particularly Frankfurt and Essen and how it seemed to be accepted. He's spent his whole life in major UK cities and is pretty streetwise but was still shocked at that and noticeable poverty.
Also seriously unimpressed with Deutsche Bahn.
Evidently all isn't rosy, sadly.

Your response
This is exactly my point

If that is not agreeing with the poster I don't know what is

But I didn't say drug use! You did. I replied, I never used the words "drug use"!
