To be really freaked out about seeing someone that wasn’t there??

My partners mum, step-dad, brother and 2 nieces are on holiday at the seaside so to we took our little one for the a day trip to have a beach day with his cousins today.

As we were driving into where they are staying and my partner was packing I said to him ‘I didn’t know your whole family was here’ when I saw his grandma standing next to his mum. He must have assumed that I was talking about his stepdad as he didn’t respond to it in a weird way/ask what I meant.

Then when we were inside I asked where his grandma had gone and where she was sleeping as they only have 2 bedrooms. Well it turns out that she isn’t there and is at home and I couldn’t have seen her because she’s not there??

What on earth happened?? What/who did I see?? Am I crazy now? 🙈

Sort of. When you think of someone and you get a call from them moments later type of stuff.

I do this all the time, and I mean all the time! Does it mean I’m a witch or is there some other explanation?

Erm has anyone called his grandma and checked she's okay?!

Don't mean to freak you out but my friend saw her Dad in her living room as she walked in from work which wasn't a shock as he'd been decorating, she walked past the living room door, saw him and carried on to the kitchen to put her bag down and shouted "hi dad do you want a cuppa?" No reply and she went to see him and he wasn't there. She called his mobile no answer, he'd actually had a heart attack and collapsed and died at his house in the morning.

My God! This is awful and so weird!!

TeaGinandFags · 02/08/2024 00:04

Can Granny astrally project herself? Mebbe she was feeling left out.

You may well be bonkers, if do join the club. It has many, many members. (I'm the president.)

Or some other boring reason.

We can put a man on the moon, or can we? but we can't cure the common cold. Science does not have all the answers.

Why do you assume science will never develop beyond its current stage? In the 18th century we had no way of preventing smallpox. Science didn't have that answer. Now, smallpox has been eradicated.

There have been so many prizes on offer over decades for proving that the paranormal is real. No-one's managed it. Maybe it's time to accept that woo is woo and nothing more?

Marseillaise · 01/08/2024 23:27

VeryHappyBunny · 31/07/2024 10:51

And not everything will.

According to science I should be dead, but I am very much alive and the doctors and specialists couldn't explain why.

But there is undoubtedly a scientific reason why that is the case. The fact that current medical science could not explain it doesn't mean that it was some sort of totally inexplicable miracle.

He called her and she answered so she’s alive and we’re going to visit her tomorrow. I still feel a bit weird though 🫣

Colour me not in the least surprised.

It would also be fun to invite someone on holiday and hide your granny in the spare room to just make a fleeting head fuck visit, see how crazy you can make your guest over the course of a day

Literally the plot to the TV series ‘The Deceived’

TheFormidableMrsC · 01/08/2024 23:03

A boss I had years ago had a weird experience like this. I remember him being really disturbed because a family member had knocked on the window next to the front door and waved at him so he went to the door to let her in. There was nobody there. The phone started ringing and it was somebody to inform him that the person he'd just seen at his window had died.

Another thought: have you had a health check lately? I ask, because I have just remembered when my son's father in law had a stroke. He was not particularly old then. It affected his vision. He could not see properly, except that visions from the past came up in front of him, and there would come up in front of him things, like a hole in the ground, or animals.

I heard on a radio programme one time about stroke victims whose sight was affected to the point where they only saw HALF of something. If a plate of food was put in front of them, they ate exactly half of the food.

It is possible that there is some family resemblance that his mum and grandma look so alike that seeing the one made you think of the other?

Bluebird987 · 01/08/2024 22:31

You probably know she’s not dead by now anyway- hopefully, as most people on this thread think she’s dead and made a little stop along the way to heaven

Bluebird987 · 01/08/2024 22:30

Alternatively you just thought you saw her when she was in fact at home doing granny things. She’s not dead

Bluebird987 · 01/08/2024 22:28

If you’re going die it would be a total waste to not have some fun on the way to your final destination

Richard1985 · 30/07/2024 23:26

Are you suggesting the OP may be ill?

Surely it’s far more reasonable to presume that Granny died earlier in the day and her ghost fancied a quick trip to the seaside before heading up to the pearly gates

i think I just died reading this 🤣

Boring answer in simple terms... it uses too much valuable energy to pay attention, so our brain constantly makes things up based on learned norms.

Well yes, that is one explanation. It does not however eliminate the possibility of other explanations. And let's face it - it's kind of boring!

BloodyHellKenAgain · 01/08/2024 20:37

squidgybits · 01/08/2024 18:27

How very rude

To be fair if I started seeing people who weren't actually there I'd be worried I was having some sort of mental breakdown.

That's a relief.
I sometimes think I see a figure and it turns out to be something like a motorbike leaning against a lampost or something, but from a certain angle looks like a person standing there, but that's because of my eyesight, so my mind fills in the blanks when I see the shape of something a similar height and shape as something else 😅
How long did you see her for and how close up?
Was it in a public area, could it possibly have been another lady standing nearby who resembled your partner's grandmother?
I'm so glad that she is alright though.
xx

Itsjustmyusername · 01/08/2024 20:24

Very glad to hear that Grandma is ok and yes, I think you are now mad 😆

CurlewKate · 01/08/2024 20:21

@Pocketfullofdogtreats "He thinks a lot of scientists are closed - minded and only interested in proving their own hypotheses. He's seen them ignore outliers"

Yep. Same applies to believers in the paranormal!

Thats exactly what I thought. My mum sees family members as they die elsewhere in the world.

Disconcerting, but its true.

Yes, but I don't think it's boring. I 'saw' a cyclist shooting out in front of my car the other day. It was rubbish blowing in the wind but my brain got me ready to react to the worst. It was just filling in the gaps. I often see our cat when he's not there. He's not dying, or dead, just (almost) constantly under my feet so I expect to see him.

Did OP ever come back with an update on granny??

Yes, she's fine - for now.
