Meeting new baby

If a close friend/relative had a baby, you asked when is good to visit & they replied they’d let you know - how much time would you allow to pass before you asked again? Or would you wait to be asked no matter how long?

YABU - wait
YANBU - ask again

The baby and I share a parent

So you're siblings and this is your Dad's partner/your Step-mother?

Go through your Dad. Ask when you will get to meet your brother or sister.

ETA: I'm assuming it's not your mother's latest child!

You're half siblings? Which side?

Almost a month

She's probably wondering where you've been! Suggest a time that suits you, they can make up an excuse if they don't want visitors, but a month is ages for close friends or family.

Are you a friend or a grandma? Have you chatted generally since?

That’s barely anytime. Especially if mum is trying to establish breastfeeding. Just wait. Having a baby is a massive transition and it’s super important for the new parents to bond as a family before inviting others in.

CelesteCunningham · 28/07/2024 23:05

Close family I'd ask again pretty quickly.

Close friend I'd be generally in touch re how they're getting on anyway so would raise it again after a couple of weeks.

IME the visitors suggest when they're free and the new parents confirm if it suits.

I'd leave them to get back in touch with you, but sending flowers in the meantime is a nice gesture if you're close.

How long has it been? Not that it matters; I’d wait.

I'd stop inviting myself and wait to be invited! She's not forgotten, it's just not convenient for you to visit and it would be very rude to pressurise her further.

She'll invite you when the time is right for her.

P.s. is the baby now 18?

If so, they've dumped you! 😂

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 28/07/2024 23:00

They will message when ready. They know you're wanting to see them as you've already messaged.

RockyRogue1001 · 28/07/2024 22:59

I'd ask, but in a non pressuring way

MissingKitty · 28/07/2024 22:58

I’d wait

MumChp · 28/07/2024 22:58

I would send flowers and wait.
