Got sent worrying WhatsApp message

I don’t know why I feel weirded out, but today I got a message on WhatsApp from an ex colleague, the message was a 2 minute long blank video where there was just a bunch of noise. Followed by a message that just said “p#*”

I haven’t had a message from this person in nearly 2 years, what should I make of this?

Very very easy to do this; I butt dialed the ex of a close friend - it had been a horrible break-up several years prior, and they were surprised/horrified to 'hear' from me. But the butt wants what the butt wants.

Just message back and ask if everything is alright you haven't heard from them for ages?

I would imagine they've just pocket dialled you and it's nothing to worry about.

Yes, definitely a pocket dial. Strange things happen with my smartphone ... My daughter was at our house the other week, and when I picked up my phone to just have a look at what the temperature was, it was on my camera and it went off and took a picture of her with our cat.

She absolutely 100% percent swore that I had deliberately papped her - and was furious because she had messy hair and no makeup on. But I genuinely didn't know it was on camera and I certainly never took the picture. Definitely haunted my camera is! 😬

Very easy. I pocket dialled my dad last week. He died in 2019

Back in the pre iCloud days where your numbers were stored on your actual phone I once changed phones on the same day I was going out on a first date with a new guy which meant his number was the third one I saved to it.

Nothing ever came of the date - he was awful, actually - but even after I'd deleted his number he was still in there somewhere as keyboard shortcut 3. Which was only one button different to deleting a voicemail. I pocked dialled him about 3 times in the subsequent year. Luke, you were a creep and it definitely didn't mean anything!

My name begins with A so even though I might not speak to someone for years, people's little kids still manage to call me when playing with their mums phone. Happens a lot more than you would think!

I was once phoned by an ex-colleague's toddler daughter. There was about ten minutes of nothing and then my ex-colleague expressing an opinion of her daughter's behaviour!

As the video was blank I'd assume it was by mistake and what you could see was the inside of the pocket

I had this. Weird pictures and random words/letters.

It was an ex colleagues 6 year old who'd been given their old phone to watch YouTube on! I got a profuse apology after 14 missed videocalls!

It's very, very easily done. My phone has done all sorts when it's frozen or decided to be slow for no apparent reason, lol.

two weeks ago I managed to arse dial a friend of my exes that I havent spoken to in 10 years! He is under R in my contacts, so fuck knows how I managed it!

We had a nice chat anyway!

I always end up butt dialling people whose name starts with L! No idea how or why but it’s happened 5-6 times always to a different someone in my contacts list starting with L.

Except once when it dialled my exDP 6 months after we split, which was mortifying and started a whole chain of bullshit!

I have no idea how my phone managed to unlock itself in my pocket, find the number of a man I hadn’t called for 6 months and phone him. But I really wouldn’t read as much into it as I (and he!) did. It’s just a butt dial.

I almost did this to an archived message the other day from over a year ago. Honestly, it's easily done.

Easily. I’ve done it. It scrolls though contacts and then you move and it dials whoever was selected off the list.
