After seeing the new footage, I believe the officers actions were understandable.

If you are stupid enough to attack armed police you should expect a bullet through the head.
Fools!

100% this!

They should have been shot and would it have been totally justified.

There is no way that it can be acceptable to violently attack an armed officer. If they are incapacitated while armed that is an absolutely lethal situation for innocent members of the public.

The first thug should have been shot immediately to end the danger to everyone else.

Even with the law as it currently is, the level of violence meted out by the thugs was absolutely of a level that the officers could genuinely fear for their lives and would be justified in using lethal force.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

So now you want them dead? What kind of barbaric society do you want to live in?

One where people don’t fuck about in airports and don’t attack the people paid to defend us.

EsmaCannonball · 28/07/2024 11:37

Another element of this is the two suspects resisted arrest so violently that it would not be unreasonable to think they were trying to escape detection for committing a crime far more serious than a fracas in a café at an airport. Everything the officers did should be taken in the context that these two offenders acted like they were dangerous enough criminals to grab the officers' weapons and use them on the officers or the public. Armed officers at airports are almost completely focused to think about potential terrorist incidents.

When people say things such as 'he kicked the bloke on the bench to the floor,' well, given we've just seen this man repeatedly punch the officer in the head, would you trust him not to go for your weapon if you cuffed him in a more 'civilised' manner? These officers have to think of the worst-case scenario in split-second conditions.

Camparijane · 28/07/2024 11:36

@BurnerName1

You are spot on!

Lacdulancelot · 28/07/2024 11:36

Everyone saying the policeman lost control.
I think he was quite self controlled.
At this point he’s running on adrenaline and you can’t just turn it off.
He couldn’t bend over the guy because he risked having his gun taken.
If these guys had got hold of an armed officers gun the officer would be in more trouble not less.
Personally I think the officer should be commended for not shooting the man.
I hope he’s not charged.

capstix · 28/07/2024 11:35

In a perfect world, the officer would have retained his composure and arrested the offender professionally. Nonetheless, in this case he was in a fight and can be forgiven for his adrenaline levels, IMHO.

Getonwitit · 28/07/2024 11:10

Oh if only that had been the outcome in this case.

So now you want them dead? What kind of barbaric society do you want to live in?

When you are a police officer and have been punched repeatedly like that then you are entitled to comment.

Until then, you know nothing.

Edited

The police are not the only ones that are attacked during the course of their working day, they probably have better training than most of us and most police manage to not stamp on someones head regardless of what happened previously

so the officer has been attacked, repeatedly punched in the back of the head, then yanked back in a choke hold when his assailant is tasered. he falls with him, rolls back to his feet, stands and sees him move, so kicks him.

Do i think the kick was justified? No, do i understand why he did it? Yup.

Sladuf · 28/07/2024 11:29

EsmaCannonball · 28/07/2024 10:05

A lot of focus has been on the female officer who has her nose broken (her blood is spattered all over the floor) but the male officer who did the kick was punched repeatedly in the head, hard and fast, by two men, one of whom had jumped on his back and grabbed him round the neck. He didn't taser this man himself so may not even have realised he had been tasered when he was on the floor. It looked as if the man was trying to get up.

So, you've taken repeated blows to the head from two men who have been involved in previous violent incidents at an airport, you are in panic mode and very probably dazed from the blows, you are dealing with two men who are acting like they have committed a crime so bad it is worth beating up three armed police officers to escape arrest: would you let him get up from the floor? Would you bend down so he can grab or hit you again?

Whoever put the original video up was looking to start sectarian riots. The lawyer and the two brothers were willing to promote that original, dangerous narrative. These are people who would have let Manchester burn for their own ends.

I think you’ve made excellent points here @EsmaCannonball, especially about the motives for the original video being put up. I distrust the motives of that lawyer you referenced too. I’d actually watched a clip of an interview he gave before I even saw the video of the incident and my gut feeling was there’s something awry with this one.

In addition to the points you made about the officer, for all we know this person may have already been suffering from past trauma that hadn’t been properly managed or treated too. I think there could well be more to this than meets the eye.

Even criminals deserve to be treated humanely. There are rules for a reason, and this police officer chose to ignore one of the most basic and fundamental things he had been taught by going for someone’s head when they were already on the floor. It could have been fatal.

Even in a stressful situation and in the heat of the moment, officers should be well trained enough that they instinctively abide by the basics.

Whilst I agree that officers need to be trained appropriately, police officers also deserve to be treated humanely and this hasn’t happened in this case at all.

However I do agree about the stamp too - that is why I keep saying I’d like definite clarification on the head because it doesn’t look like contact was made, or even attempted to be made.
A kick in the face will break bones but is unlikely to kill. A stamp on the head is likely to be lethal.

I think they were lucky to do it in the U.K. not in a country where the result for their violence would be fatal

Not solicitor, cyst and protests but shot

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 28/07/2024 11:25

@IMustDoMoreExercise I have been punched repeatedly. Pretty sure if I'd stamped on my ex's head I would have been arrested.

You can defend that officer all you want, still doesn't make it right. Your attitude is appalling, I'm guessing you're a police officer or related to one? Amazing how a badge boosts the ego and brings out the worst in people

OlympicNightmare · 28/07/2024 11:24

Soontobe60 · 28/07/2024 11:17

I believe the hand you’re referring to is the mother’s hand. She doesn’t flinch or move it as the officer’s foot hits the ground.

Ah okay, possibly not. I’m still not sure he makes contact with the head though. But there may be other footage that shows differently.

I think the body cams will be revealing.

Nope... that doesn't cover this scenario

I wonder how this would have played out if the fracas had been in departures at Qatar airport.

They would never behave like this in any of the gulf states as the outcome would have been either they would have been immediately shot or they would have been thrown in prison immediately and received long sentences. There is absolutely no messing about allowed. Anyone who knows the region knows that it’s laughable to think they’d even dare speak to a police officer disrespectfully never mind physically attack

IMustDoMoreExercise · 28/07/2024 11:18

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 28/07/2024 11:15

@IMustDoMoreExercise Still doesn't make it right. Wearing a uniform doesn't mean you can use excessive force. That reaction was pure anger.

Being a Police officer doesn't mean you're a good person. Police officers are human, humans can be arseholes. That particular officer is a violent arsehole on a power trip.

Can you link? Viewing it closely it does appear that he stamps on the hand and doesn’t make contact with the head, however I am happy to accept I’m wrong.

Scammersarescum · 28/07/2024 11:15

The policeman was absolutely correct to immobilise a violent offender who had committed horrible assaults putting both the public and police at risk.

Totally irrelevant. It never happened.

SweetFemaleAttitude · 28/07/2024 11:12

I think the people on here supporting the police officers actions, somehow believe that the people who disagree with them, are in support of the perpetrators.

This is not true.

I wholeheartedly think the behaviour of the person was abhorrent, thuggish, brutal and disgusting, whilst at the same time believing that the police officers actions we also abhorrent, thuggish, brutal and disgusting.

I hope the perps get a custodial sentence and I also hope the police officer faces consequences for basically losing his shit whilst being responsible for acting within the law.
