After seeing the new footage, I believe the officers actions were understandable.

Well if they had been shot then at least there would have been no need for the police officer to kick him in the head.

Also I believe that should apply to everyone regardless of their race, race or religion if they attack a police officer in a high security environment, creating a dangerous situation for everyone.

Completely agree. If they are white British they should face the same consequences. Why is it though that increasingly the people causing newsworthy incidents like this are minority groups?

Think of all the terror attacks, stabbings, shootings you have seen reported on in the past few years, how many of them are white British? Very few I bet.

My mind is boggling at how and why those men got so violent so quickly and with clear intent to badly injure! Were they on drugs or just violent people?
I have huge sympathy for the officer and agree with pps that it was a fight or flight moment, he must have been terrified of the risk to himself, his fellow officers and the public. How could he know in that split second what the guys intention was?

I don’t think we will know the full facts until the trial, and so much of the speculation is fuelled by hatred of Muslims that I’m not reading any more of it. Some of us just want to live peacefully in a multicultural society and all this racism only perpetuates more division. We had come so far since the race riots of the early 2000s in our northern towns.

I guess they were protecting their mum - they over reacted as did the police, they all have one thing in common

Protecting their mum from what ? One guys was at a pay machine resisting talking to officer?

Did they have evidence the mum was attacked

They need to act like it then.

There are plenty of white British citizens in prison. This isn’t about race - it’s about the offences committed. Stirring up racial hatred never helps a situation.

When you are a police officer and have been punched repeatedly like that then you are entitled to comment.

Until then, you know nothing.

Edited

100% agree with this.

That officer had just been beaten and strangled, to the point he lost consciousness, he needed to make damn sure they weren’t going to take his weapons from him whilst minimising risk to the public, he acted entirely within reason in the situation.

Anyone thinking that this is about a power trip needs to look at situation as a whole - the police had gone in to calm the situation and were very badly assaulted, they needed to protect the public as well as themselves- the men kicking off were being extremely brutally violent , they needed subduing in a way that kept the public and the police safe first.

Hateam · 28/07/2024 12:40

They went looking for a fight, they got one.
They lost - good.

They very definitely fucked around and found out.

Apparently a violent bust up in Starbucks and a fight on the plane. Seeing these thugs on the video, I can absolutely believe that they were violent and aggressive to others prior to this happening.

They were pumped up and looking for a fight. They weren't on the plane, didn't the mother claim she was racially abused, landed, pointed out the man she claimed abused her and pushed his trolley into her and her lovely sons took matters into their iwn hands, confronted him and it all just escalated. What's happened to the man they confronted, where's the plane footage and the cctv of him pushing his trolley into her, the initial confrontation.

Hateam · 28/07/2024 12:33

Given what he did, I think the officer should be disciplined.

Given the circumstances, I do not think he should be discharged or prosecuted.

Yes I realise it wasn't a sensible comment 🙄

On another note there is a Facebook group been set up 'We support the Manchester officer' which has 38 thousand members in less than a week, thankfully some British citizens support law and order.

If they "SupPoRt LaW aNd OrDeR" they'll be happy to wait for the due process of the law to reach a conclusion.

Although without even looking I can 100% guarantee that group's an absolute sewer stuffed with social inadequates with dog/union jack/st george avatars and who think summary execution has a place in a liberal European democracy.

Rather like some of the oddballs on this thread.

Really makes me wonder what type of person chooses this as their career. Because time and again, the disgusting stuff that comes out about specifically male police officers, is disgraceful. Seems to be something every day.
My son in law is a police officer. And it's because he's a decent guy who wants to make a difference. Does that help?

Yes I have family and friends in the police (serving and retired) and they are thoroughly decent people. I'm so tired of the endless abuse they receive not just from the thugs they deal with but increasingly the chattering classes and Guardianistas.

I know who I would want in my corner when the shit hits the fan.

Nobodywouldknow · 28/07/2024 12:27

Username056 · 28/07/2024 12:25

I think in many other countries, including other European ones, the guy would have been shot. I used to live in France and the police there don’t muck about.

Yes I agree. The fact that nobody ever even drew their gun shows they were acting with restraint.

Maybe it's mentioned upthread, but why were the police arresting those men in the first place? What preceded even this?

I posted on here criticising the police’s actions. Having seen the new footage I have changed my mind. I do still think it was wrong of the police officer to act as he did but this is an entirely different scenario to what the previous video suggested. The two men who did sad-face media interviews are violent thugs who were out of control, raining down punches on the officers. They absolutely needed to be tasered. Also, the suspect on the ground, immediately before being kicked, went to move his head and I can see why the officer then reacted by kicking him, given how out of control he had been previously. I also note that the guy on the ground didn’t have facial bruising in his sad-face interview so I don’t buy that it injured him. His brother was just as bad and bigger/stronger and also deserved to be tasered. These were also armed officers and they may have feared that these men would get hold of their weapons. I think had this happened in the US, they would have been shot, no question. The officers here didn’t even draw their guns.
I hope the men are charged with assault and punished accordingly. I have sympathy for the officer who kicked him but accept that this was wrong.

JudgeJ · 28/07/2024 12:23

iamtheblcksheep · 28/07/2024 09:18

And breaking the nose of a female officer is ten times worse. I hope this scum goes to prison for a long time and the officer is given a bloody medal. Assault of someone doing their job is never ok

But they won't be punished for their violence, I wonder why? Maybe they will try these stunts in countries where the police have and use weapons against violent offenders.

Meadowfinch · 28/07/2024 12:22

It makes it more understandable, but police officers are supposed to be well trained professionals who remain within the law. They have their operating procedures and are equipped (tasers etc) to deal with such incidents.

So while the two individuals in question were unquestionably violent, aggressive, and injured a police officer, that does not provide justification for kicking someone in the head.

Username056 · 28/07/2024 12:21

If it’s true that officers have to have one hand on the gun at all times I think that it adds to the reason why he used his feet to ensure the guy stayed down. What other options did he have at that point? The guy in the blue was extremely violent. It wasn’t guaranteed he was going to stay down even after being tasered. The mother wasn’t helping the situation either as she was leaning over him. She might have been about to help him get up?
