After seeing the new footage, I believe the officers actions were understandable.

Thuggery on both sides...

No it's related to another incident.

Cherryana · 28/07/2024 17:01

I am usually quite lefty but at some point there has to be a hierarchy enforced for peace to be enjoyed by the majority.

Having seen the video I think that the police did the right thing, in the wrong way BUT that those volatile situations are not going to be all neat - and so if I give slack or sympathy it’s to the police officer.

They’re British.

The colour of their skin and their religion is not the issue here. Their behaviour and the behaviour of the police are the two things up for debate. Race and religion were brought up as the belief was that it was racially motivated, but it appears that is not the case.

Either way, they are British citizens.

I’m glad you put that up, I was trying to do it myself, they had to get them under control as they were so violent, then to hear from their solicitor saying they are to scared to leave the house as they are so scared of the police and that their mother is so scared and hasn’t eaten since it happened. Really, is she not scared of her violent sons

Doesn't correct the meaning of the sentence, given this is their country

The police hadn't touched their mother when all this began. In fact, one of the brothers seems to hit his own mother in the face.

She's definitely failed at parenting.

I thought the fight started because someone had been racist towards their mother, that's what riled them originally - their protection of their mum, I never said their mother was physically attacked

Perhaps they have not been prosecuted because they had done nothing wrong before being attacked by the police?

you really think that nothing had gone on before the police got them at the pay machine ?
they were just enjoying a quiet day out when the police jumped them and forced them to try and kick the shit out of the officers ? i’d love to live through your rose tinted glasses

@SweetFemaleAttitude

"He failed in his duty as a police officer and I hope he is sacked, because he, like many other police officers have proven, time and time again, is not somebody I would trust to protect me."

And good luck finding police officers willing to do the job.

Reminds me of this story:

Isn’t the point of the police to be trained in dealing with and detaining potential and actual violent criminals? Once they have been overcome, you don’t stamp them on the head, kick them and spray pepper spray in their eyes.

Realistically I think 'training' can only take you so far in preparing you for a real-life situation of being attacked. In a simulation you would know that you're not at risk of real harm, and the situation wouldn't escalate to serious injury or death.

That officer had been over-powered by one man, received at least 5 punches to the head, attacked from behind by another man, which only stopped because the second man was tasered. In less than one minute.

That doesn't justify his violence but I do understand why he was so riled up.

OlympicNightmare · 28/07/2024 15:22

Hateam · 28/07/2024 12:33

Given what he did, I think the officer should be disciplined.

Given the circumstances, I do not think he should be discharged or prosecuted.

Yes, this sounds very sensible to me.

TakeMe2Insanity · 28/07/2024 14:40

SweetFemaleAttitude · 28/07/2024 09:10

I still think what the police officer did was disgusting after seeing this.

He was not involved in a mass brawl. It was his job to detain a violent thug. It was not his job to become a violent thug himself.

He failed in his duty as a police officer and I hope he is sacked, because he, like many other police officers have proven, time and time again, is not somebody I would trust to protect me.

This.

The police are held to a higher standard. It’s not for them to dish out punishments. If immediate punishments were correct the stamping on the second brother (the one who was sat up, with his hands up, and moving to the floor) is still unjust.

The police are chosen and employed to calm down a situation and bring order not add to the chaos and make a highly charged situation worse.

1dayatatime · 28/07/2024 14:26

This whole incident reminds so much of an interview by Denzel Washington:

JudgeJ · 28/07/2024 14:20

AngelusBell · 28/07/2024 12:41

There are plenty of white British citizens in prison. This isn’t about race - it’s about the offences committed. Stirring up racial hatred never helps a situation.

But those who are creating these incidents through their violent behaviour will always screech 'racism' if they can as an excuse.

EsmaCannonball · 28/07/2024 14:15

You can blame the media. They make a big deal about fact-checking, verifying and unbiased reporting and they do not show every video that has gone viral on social media. There was some very poor and dubious decision-making here.

Concernedpasserby · 28/07/2024 14:03

iamtheblcksheep · 28/07/2024 09:30

I really do blame the media for the protests. If the full video had been shown, very few people would have had an ounce of sympathy for the POS on the floor.

The media shared the full video that was shared with them initially.
The further early video is from a different source and only came to light later.
You can't blame the media when it was out on social media already.

Jl2014 · 28/07/2024 13:54

While I appreciate that police should restrain themselves, I do think that it’s unrealistic in some situations where after being violently assaulted by thugs that the police will just gently cart them off to jail.

Cloudysky81 · 28/07/2024 13:05

Police don’t know for certain that anyone is unarmed. However in the UK only a tiny percentage of the population has access to firearms, so the presumption must be made that people are unarmed unless there is evidence showing otherwise.

should the police have asked nicely if they had a knife then?

armed doesn’t just mean guns and they hadn’t been on the plane so they could have been carrying anything.

EsmaCannonball · 28/07/2024 13:35

Vic6 · 28/07/2024 13:28

He’s vile

Goodness, I didn't know about what he did to that poor woman. I did know about the campaign of intimidation of the female MP and her volunteers at the election, his joking about domestic violence and his belief that women should be kept at home because men cannot help themselves.

But let's assume he's acting in good faith here. Or not.

Yes but it's guys like these (violent thugs) are likely to be in that tiny minority of people who have access to firearms and even more likely to be carrying a weapon.
