After seeing the new footage, I believe the officers actions were understandable.

From that angle it does look like it was stamped on.

However don’t use BBC verify as gospel as they have already been proven wrong many times about other issues.

What other instances are there of bbc verify being proven wrong

surely the media would be onto it instantly if this actually was the case

Cloudysky81 · 28/07/2024 10:51

I still don’t believe the officers actions were justified.
The offenders were unarmed, he was lying prone on the floor having being tasered. Nothing can justify kicking him in the head.

Velvetcatfur · 28/07/2024 10:50

The guy that did the kicking and stamping, maybe it was his Girlfriend that got the beating and broken nose ?

EasternStandard · 28/07/2024 10:50

Glad you put a vote on it and I agree with the majority

The mother had an altercation on the plane.....her sons confronted him in a coffee shop and it kicked off between them

Thanks, we will wait for the cctv footage of that then and everything else that followed.

AInightingale · 28/07/2024 10:48

Cop was immobilising him so he posed no more danger, he'd already leapt up once after being floored. In the USA, all those attackers would be dead, they should count themselves lucky. Yes it is appalling to see a human head kicked, even if it belongs to a violent scumbag, but surely preferable to being shot dead.

Sunshineandpool · 28/07/2024 10:47

I'm a nurse. Sometimes there is violence. Imagine if one of us did what this thug police officer did!!

Kendodd · 28/07/2024 10:47

OhHelloMiss · 28/07/2024 10:39

The officer had been attacked by the pair to the point he is thought to have briefly lost consciousness

In public....with a firearm strapped to him

Is this the same officer who kicked the suspect? If so, he would have had concussion while doing so.

As I said before, the worse people are the ones demonstrating in front of the police station. Shame on the lot of them. These violent young men, who left police officers in hospital with broken bones, are their heros.

Sunshineandpool · 28/07/2024 10:46

👏👏👏

Absolutely!

Sunshineandpool · 28/07/2024 10:46

Understandable? Not in the slightest!

OllyBJolly · 28/07/2024 10:44

The officer lost it. Unprofessional. No matter how provoked they have to react without fear or favour. It's a dangerous precedent if this behaviour does not result in a disciplinary.

Society needs to have faith and confidence in the force that exists to protect us and reinforce our laws. What happened before (provoked) and what happens after (social media commentary and opinion) should not be a feature in deciding the consequences.

Wtf do people sympathise with violent scum or twats like the JSO girl who got jailed and can’t go to her brothers wedding. Boo bloody hoo. What is wrong with society.

I agree that the two men are violent thugs and they deserve to be prosecuted and I’d be happy if they receive a custodial sentence. If those men had been hurt whilst being restrained I wouldn’t care. However, I expect the police to be held to a higher standard than criminals. Once the men were restrained, the police officer kicked then stamped on his head, that was retribution and a complete loss of control. Both the thugs and the officer will have to face what’s coming to them and thinking both parties were wrong doesn’t mean anyone’s supporting those violent men.

How would he have been trained to react to this then?

Interesting. Please share examples of this.

Getting bail and sitting in front of the cameras crying victim ( even the mum who on the video is shown to be injured by her son throwing punches) after violently attacking armed police and breaking a female officers nose.
Regardless of the police officers actions afterwards - what message is this sending out?
I have seen so many videos of police being violently attacked.
What an absolute joke.
No he should not have stamped on his head when he was no longer a threat but where the hell is the protection for police officers that put their lives in the line daily.
They do not always get it right and when they are caught out they should be held to account.
But can the same be said for the criminals that think it’s fine to attack officers?
Everybody expecting the police to be perfect, but what protection do they get?
Police brutality is not ok but attacking police officers and then sitting in front of cameras playing the victim and looking for a payout?
Fuck off!!

The police had their protection in the shape of their taser guns, their training, the availability of back-up, their rights of arrest, and the fact that those who attack them are subject to harsher sentences than those who attack other members of the public. What else do you want for them?

It's a very fine line. It looks like they detained the suspect a couple of times and he broke free grabbing for the guns, so when the suspect was detained the final time the officer wants to make sure he stays down at all costs. The officer's lives are at risk and it happens in seconds, it's not like the suspect is detained fully and then kicked, it's all happened within a few seconds. If someone were grabbing for a weapon from me I'd want to make sure they have no chance of getting it. The officer clearly hasn't done it out of spite but out of fear of the suspect breaking free again.

I do wonder why the police are armed if they are not going to use them even if just to threaten someone?

Pulling a gun on that man while someone else handcuffed him might have been better. However, in the heat of the moment, and knowing his colleagues were injured, the police officer reacted but not as he had been trained to do.

What led up to the police being called in the first place, no one has mentioned that.

The mother had an altercation on the plane.....her sons confronted him in a coffee shop and it kicked off between them

PeachyKeane · 28/07/2024 09:41

This. 100%

Spot on.

Years ago the police held respect, kids misbehaving or drawing themselves to the attention of the police would have a stern talking to and often a good clip around the ear for good measure.

Then they’d be hauled home much to the embarrassment of their parents for ‘bringing trouble to their door’ and have another bollocking and possibly another clip around the ear from mum and dad. Often that would be enough to stop any lawless behaviour in its tracks.

These days people know full well that the police can’t touch them so they think they’re above the law. I applaud the officers who are willing to do this job and put themselves at risk every day.

If criminals knew that they’d be at risk of a damn good hiding they might think twice. The thugs in this video wouldn’t have behaved like that in their own country (or their parents country, wherever they are from) they’d be likely to get shot.

I know it’s an unpopular view but these are the kind of people that we should be deporting (if they weren’t born in the UK of course). No messing around, you come to our country and have RESPECT and live by our rules. Break the law and you should be expected to be sent back home to where you came from. Scum.

OhHelloMiss · 28/07/2024 10:36

If one of these men had taken a firearm and fired into the crowds through either anger or not knowing how to use the firearm..... and injured/scared/killed the public then I'm sure everyone would be asking why the men weren't incapacitated

The officer would have been expected to have floored the guy in that scenario.... the public would be fuming about that instead

Police can't win

iamtheblcksheep · 28/07/2024 09:39

Thought they were in for a nice bit of comp didn’t they. Only bit of free stuff that guys going to get is a nice stay at his majesties pleasure

I bet the will get big payouts because of this. I then hope the female police officer whose nose they broke sues them and gets every single penny off them.
The very worse people in all of this imo is the baying mob outside Manchester police station.

FineFettler · 28/07/2024 10:32

CookStrait · 28/07/2024 09:44

A good battering is all that some people understand.

Oh, lovely. If we are going to justify criminal assault on that basis, it's going to be anarchy out there.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 28/07/2024 10:31

A tasered suspect is not subdued and defenceless at all, they have just been stopped for a few seconds (if that) after which they will recover completely and can carry on as before. It is a chance for the police to try to get the upper hand. Action is still required.
