After seeing the new footage, I believe the officers actions were understandable.

How many people do you know who want to do these jobs?

Of course he got it wrong he's a bloody human being in full fight or flight mode. But all the usual suspects will call for him to be hung, drawn and quartered while the actual offenders will cry racism, demand compensation and get 3 weeks community service for their offences.

People are sick of lawless thugs who think it's totally OK to attack armed police officers. This country is going down the toilet more every day.

Totally agree. Great post.

Jezabelle85 · 28/07/2024 10:23

If you are stupid enough to attack armed police you should expect a bullet through the head.
Fools!

Oh if only that had been the outcome in this case.

SD1978 · 28/07/2024 11:09

No. There is still no excuse to stamp on a man's head when he is already down. I understand that tensions were high, and surprise, the blokes, were arseholes, but that doesn't excuse the over action by the policeman.

Concernedpasserby · 28/07/2024 09:42

I didn't need to see the footage to understand the officers actions. It was clear from the description of the event.
But understanding that in that moment, his adrenaline had kicked in, he was probably terrified for himself and his colleagues and the public around them, and he lashed out. And understanding that the people involved had been involved in 2 incidents prior and are clearly violent thugs.....nome of that makes what he did "right" or justified.

It's not his job to dish out punishment.
And losing his temper in those circumstances Doesn't make him a bad person.
It would NEVER have happened if he hadn't been attacked first, but it still shouldn't have happened.
All these things are true, none of us are perfect.

The independent investigation(s) need to run their course.

My thoughts entirely.

OneBadKitty · 28/07/2024 11:09

They need more punishment than a travel ban- they weren’t even passengers- they were at the airport to pick up their mother. They should be given a prison sentence and made to pay compensation to the officers they injured. If they are migrants they should be deported on release back to their country of nationality- although I suspect they are British citizens.

OlympicNightmare · 28/07/2024 11:07

Wery · 28/07/2024 11:01

The angle of the original footage appeared to show him stamp on the man's head but the new footage shows he stamped on the floor very close to his head.

This is maybe what I’ve seen, the stamp looks aimed at the hand or the floor, it doesn’t look like contact with the head is made.

That doesn’t make the kick in the face okay, but it does make a difference to me.

SloaneStreetVandal · 28/07/2024 11:05

FineFettler · 28/07/2024 10:38

The police had their protection in the shape of their taser guns, their training, the availability of back-up, their rights of arrest, and the fact that those who attack them are subject to harsher sentences than those who attack other members of the public. What else do you want for them?

What else do you want for them?

Bleeding hearts having a day off from justifying extreme violence and public disorder, whose raison d'etre is essentially to frame perpetrators as victims, would be a start.

Incidents involving police being looked upon on a case by case basis, with consideration given that police are just human beings risking serious injury and death in the line of duty, would also be sensible.

The fact that the men who seriously assaulted the police have both behaved, and been treated by the media and elected officials, as persecuted martyrs is entirely wrong.

HurricanesHardlyEverHappen · 28/07/2024 11:04

*Imagine being on a plane with them!

I and family have flown Qatar Airways and never seen trouble on board 🤞
Nor on most flights actually.*

Maybe they are more relaxed when they aren't working. And they wouldn't have their guns of course on a flight.

ChefsKisser · 28/07/2024 11:02

If the two violent thugs hadn’t attacked the police officers they wouldn’t have been tasers or stamped on. The police officer wasn’t right but I have less than zero sympathy for those disgusting men.

EasternStandard · 28/07/2024 11:01

sashh · 28/07/2024 10:59

Did the police know they were unarmed?

Idk but I think they knew how extreme their reaction was based on the pummelling and violence they’d just experienced. Those thugs were unleashing brutality

Wery · 28/07/2024 11:01

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 28/07/2024 09:04

Still doesn't make it right. Stamping on someone's head is never right.

The angle of the original footage appeared to show him stamp on the man's head but the new footage shows he stamped on the floor very close to his head.

I'm a nurse. Sometimes there is violence. Imagine if one of us did what this thug police officer did!!

The officer is carrying a gun.

It raises the stakes.

If that's taken off him, there's a risk of an absolute bloodbath. Must be a huge responsibility.

Adviceneeeeded · 28/07/2024 11:00

I have seen the video where his face isn't blurred out the other day on instagram from an observer. He clearly full on kicks him in the middle of his face and stomps on his head with full force.

Bbc blurred faces so it's harder to see.

I don't know what the offender did to be approached originally by the police. But the police are there to protect and serve. Not to dish out their own punishments

They may be only human but it is their job not to loose their cool but to calm the situation, make their arrest in the least harmful way possible and leave justice to the courts. Shocking behaviour.

The female police officer also seems to be waiving around and panicking abd doesn't know what to do or to control the situation either.

DarkDarkNight · 28/07/2024 10:52

No it’s not justified whatever has happened beforehand. The man was on the ground and was not a danger by that point. The police aren’t allowed to just assault people no matter what they’ve done.

Do we know what caused the incident in the first place? I think we should be coming down hard on the two who I can see in videos attacking the police officers though. Long term travel bans for them definitely.

Cloudysky81 · 28/07/2024 10:51

I still don’t believe the officers actions were justified.
The offenders were unarmed, he was lying prone on the floor having being tasered. Nothing can justify kicking him in the head.

Did the police know they were unarmed?

Exactly

I work in mh it happens it’s frightening your adrenaline kicks in but staff have to remain in control (we have had training but far less that this officer would have) you can not react with unnecessary violence

if they do then the line of work isn’t right for them

SweetFemaleAttitude · 28/07/2024 10:58

Velvetcatfur · 28/07/2024 10:50

The guy that did the kicking and stamping, maybe it was his Girlfriend that got the beating and broken nose ?

And?????

That gave someone with a supposed job of acting within the law, to lash out?

If he does this under pressure, it certainly is not the right profession for him. He acted no better than the perpetrators.

C152 · 28/07/2024 10:58

I disagree, OP. The officer did not apply/enforce the law correctly here.

Jezabelle85 · 28/07/2024 10:58

Bail should be refused for people that violently attack police.
Police are our protection, how can they protect us when they are being knocked unconscious by repeated blows to the head?
What good are all the things you have mentioned when you are lying unconscious on he ground.
Bailing violent thugs that attack police is not protecting them or the public.

Unless you carry a gun and a taser that could be taken off you and used against you and other patients/colleagues then it's really not comparable is it?

SweetFemaleAttitude · 28/07/2024 10:56

BurnerName1 · 28/07/2024 10:11

No it's really not and the problem is too many people don't seem to see what the underlying connection is. Thugs behaving like thugs without consequence.

But go ahead take a career change!

Why would I take a career change? What are you on about?

In this case, the police officer also acted like a thug.

My point is people who take these jobs where they can yield an ounce of authority over people are sometimes not the right people to do these jobs.

Why would I change my career? I do not have the mindset to do a job where my role involves relishing power and control.

AInightingale · 28/07/2024 10:48

Cop was immobilising him so he posed no more danger, he'd already leapt up once after being floored. In the USA, all those attackers would be dead, they should count themselves lucky. Yes it is appalling to see a human head kicked, even if it belongs to a violent scumbag, but surely preferable to being shot dead.

Yes we had a different outcome with solicitor and cyst news

The longer clip shows the brutal violence the officers faced, in many places that would be fatal

berksandbeyond · 28/07/2024 10:54

I’m absolutely fine with what the police officer did. In many other countries they’d have been shot dead for that nonsense in an airport. Fuck around and find out!
