Council have asked me to move my keysafe, for the carers round the back of the block of flats.

Does anyone know if the council are in the wrong here. I have a keysafe for the carers, which i was given permission for when i moved in 6 years ago.
Next door keeps complaining that it makes a noise and they have written to me asking for it to be moved round the back.
The back way isnt very safe in the winter as there is a very dim light round there, but the councils answer to that was the carers can use the torch on their phones.
I cant get the new keysafe fitted till fri the 2nd, so the carers cant use the keysafe till then.
Its a block of flats, with a communal back and front door.

The carers shouldn’t have to put themselves at risk and use a dimly lit back door.

Are the council funding the carers? They would be liable for their health and safety. It is worth going back to the council. Your neighbour sounds like a sweetheart.

noodlebugz · 28/07/2024 18:57

Isn’t there a way of complaining / escalating if you don’t agree with the decision on the letter? All seems to have happened very fast with zero discussion like it’s not been well done especially as the key safe is hardly used.
Neighbour sounds like a proper bellend. We had a key safe my my grandma - you can hear it a bit but not more than ususl
coming and goings.

patsy999 · 28/07/2024 18:53

No because i have 14 different carers a week,it would be impossible to organise.

Can you not give the carers office a key

MyTherapistSaidImAnAdult · 28/07/2024 17:39

I'm a carer. My safety comes before your twat of a neighbour complaining about noise... how often are the carers using the keysafe 🙄

I use key safes for all my clients, I've never noticed any of them make a noise and they're all different.... weirdo.

I also can't understand why this is even an antisocial issue if it has only been used twice. Unfortunately in spite of multiple people asking, OP seems to be avoiding answering what sort of noise the key safe is making to generate complaints.

As an example of how antisocial behaviour teams operate these days, it is a more sledge hammer and zero tolerance approach now although this case does seem over zealous and OP does need to challenge it.

Our antisocial behaviour team has a mobile number. Last year in my block they were called because a resident was causing nuisance. They attended promptly but he wouldn't open the door so they went back to the office, printed a letter and put it through his door. All within the hour. It really was that quick and the nuisance stopped.

Maybe other authorities still drag their heels but ours certainly doesn't.

My experience was it was a 'zero tolerance' approach from a lone out of hours ASBU enforcement officer who fell for the story given, with special emphasis on concerns of stranger danger risk to the young children of the family complaining.

They mentioned 'drugs' and 'buckets of used needles' which was kind of funny as they're the ones with adult DCs with illicit substance delivery riders all times of the day and night, leaving roaches and baggies out front, and I'm the one with the prescribed refrigerated and secure licensed delivery drivers during working hours, who pick up my sealed sharps containers in passing. 😂

He entirely lacked critical thinking skills and just listened and swallowed wholesale what may tbf have been a familiar genuine story from others, and questioned nothing, didn't even speak to me before assuming who was the perpetrator, and who was the victim.

As soon as I challenged the narrative he disappeared into the background leaving his colleagues to deal with the fall out.

Key safes can be "noisy" but they're not going to be noisier than the door the key is opening so complaining about that specific noise is spiteful, plus the fact it's been vandalised, it's clearly targeted against only people requiring the key safe

Gogogo12345 · 28/07/2024 10:34

Grannywithnoplanny · 27/07/2024 07:47

How noisy can a key safe be?? Can you get a quieter one if it's strangely loud?

That's what I thought. Mine is 5 clicks in total. 4 to enter code and one to open

patsy999 · 28/07/2024 10:32

I've spoken to the care agency. There going to ring for me tomorrow and ive also emailed my social worker.

Lau2108 · 28/07/2024 10:26

Community carer here! Have you spoken to the care agency? Ask them to speak to the council with concerns. Tell the carers and ask them to pass on concerns to their office too so then they can say to the council they have x amount of concerns. Also get them to point out the other keysafe which is likely used more often. See if you can get the quieter digital one put at the front at least. Sorry this is happening, some people just don't understand the wider implications when someone needs care. It's the last thing you need to be worrying about.

ASimpleLampoon · 28/07/2024 10:21

OK Please talk to your social worker, counil lo r and MP and tell them this harassment from your neighbour needs to stop, and the council needs to stop bullying you on his behalf.

This is ridiculous. A carer doing their job is not doing anti social behaviour. You existing in your home isn't either.

My keysafe doesnt make any noise. Especially, since the cover was smashed,
His just a nasty, horrible man and as i said before its only used when they come early and im still asleep or if im ill and cant get to the door. Its been used once, since may the tenth.
There is another keysafe on his flat wall as thats the only place they can go, due to the other wall being taken up by the buzzers.

Finally. So all you need to do is tell them your key safe doesn't make a noise, report him for harassment and just ignore the letter. And all it took was 152 posts. Phew!

patsy999 · 28/07/2024 09:58

His the anti social behaviour officer, attached to the homes section.
So the council must of given him my mobile number as its on their records.

No he was definatly from the council as noone in this buiding has my mobile number.
Plus i rang him back on the councils number. I also googled his name. its not an electronic buzzing either.

But how did the guy from the council's anti social behaviour unit get access to your mobile number.

There is something wrong here.

Sendinsanity · 28/07/2024 09:20

I'd tell the council to sod off. Twice a day, during reasonable times for seconds at a time is utterly ridiculous and they need to not be pandering to an unreasonable neighbour.

OP seems to be avoiding answering what sort of noise the key safe is making to generate complaints.

I think the reason the OP is avoiding answering that question is in fact because key safes don't make a noise, but she doesn't feel she can say that - for whatever reason.

Surely it would help formulate a response to the letter though if you can show categorically that it is just not true? She also said there was another key safe on the same wall, in which case how would they even know which one is making the noise?

@Elleherd what a great analysis; though I'm sorry to hear your neighbours are that terrible 💐

@patsy999 If the person who rang you was genuine, maybe he's an acquaintance or friend of someone in your building; I cannot see either how something like this gets dealt with that quickly, compared to many other stories on here.

Perhaps the person who made the complaint really does hear the other keysafe or other people chatting or similar; and it's a mix-up.
The suggestions by PP were all very good.

Something else is a possibility but it's fixable, too: some electronics make a permanent buzzing sound, sometimes because a cable isn't connected correctly or similar errors, could that be what the person hears?

JellyBeanFactory · 27/07/2024 21:08

As I said upthread, I think your neighbours might be behind the letter/phone call etc.

The key safe has been used TWICE...

If your key safe belts out "Welcome Home" (cue Peter's & Lee earworm) at 100dB each time it opens, buy a new one. Would be cheaper than the £80 you will be charged.

Ginlfixit · 27/07/2024 15:00

AquaLeader · 27/07/2024 14:50

Even if the OP's flat was in Clarence House, and 'Bob downstairs' was actually called Charles, it would not get this speed of response.

The antisocial behaviour team are on call as I've already said. They attended when people call them where I am, and post letters through straight away.
