Friend had a go at me over a can of Diet Coke

Last Saturday friend had a few people around, she lives in the country so taxi/uber is impossible so all those drinking stayed over.

In the morning there was still some stuff out from the night before, including cans of Diet Coke, I opened one and had a sip, put it down not really thinking and said my goodbyes, my friend said “aren’t you taking that with you?” I responded “no I’m good thanks” and she retorted “what I’m absolute waste” - awkward silence, I grabbed the can, mumbled sorry and left.

Shes now messaged me to apologised. I’m just so annoyed that she spoke to me like a child.

You were really rude, and she's apologised to you!

TokyoSushi · 26/07/2024 14:22

You were really wasteful and quite rude though. Do you not think so?

Wishimaywishimight · 26/07/2024 14:15

How is it a waste? Surely she could have poured the remainder into a glass?

Yummy, a tasty glass of the OP's washback spit and flat Diet Coke (unless the host wanted to drink it then and there, in which case fizzy washback and Coke).

Unless this is a reverse, unsure why the host apologised.

PurpleBugz · 26/07/2024 14:21

You acted like a child tbf

StormingNorman · 26/07/2024 14:21

It was unappreciative of her hospitality and an utter waste. Completely thoughtless IMO. I think you should apologise.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 26/07/2024 14:21

Hangovers rarely make for good relationships. And she's had a bunch of people hanging around her, along with probably a fair bit of cleaning to do.

SeeSeeRider · 26/07/2024 14:20

I think it would have been nice to ask first before snapping open one of her cans. I don't see any mention of doing that. That would have got me pissed off to start with, and when you just took a sip and plonked it down that would have put the lid on it, and you sound a bit sort of thoughtless. How old are you?

Seaglassandchampagne · 26/07/2024 14:19

I’d have been annoyed at you too but probably wouldn’t have said anything. Your friend has apologised so there’s not really any more to it but in future I wouldn’t open a can of Coke for a single sip!

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 26/07/2024 14:19

You friend was right and it should be you apologising.

Angelsrose · 26/07/2024 14:19

Who says the host would have wanted a diet coke at that precise moment? Far better for the op to wait till she got home for a sip of diet coke. Doubt she'd be so wasteful in her own home.

morellamalessdrama · 26/07/2024 14:18

I used to go on holiday with a friend and her (12 year old) daughter who was like this and it drove me mad. The daughter would open a bag of crisps, eat one, then leave them out to go to waste. The same with drinks. I didn't say anything but really wanted to at the time!

ClaraLaraBow · 26/07/2024 14:18

Did you stay to tidy up??
Or take one sip of a coke, leave it there and sat okayyy bye!

Pootles34 · 26/07/2024 14:18

I'm guessing this is a reverse OP?

Twistybranch · 26/07/2024 14:18

She spoke to you like a child because you acted like a child.
But a kid at least doesn’t understand the ways we can be wasteful. You’re a grown adult and should know better.

Conversat1onswithfriends · 26/07/2024 14:18

It is wasteful she was right. The fact you don’t see this makes me think you’ve got form for it?

slantedroof · 26/07/2024 14:17

Surely a reverse. You were really rude to waste her can just to have one sip. And then leave it for her to deal with. If you felt like a child it was because you were behaving like one - the same oblivious entitlement.

The only thing she did wrong is apologise to you.

12345onceIcaughta · 26/07/2024 14:17

If you were only a bit thirsty you should have had a glass of water and not wasted a whole can of coke.
I agree with your friend I cannot believe you would be so rude.

PlacidPenelope · 26/07/2024 14:17

Eart · 26/07/2024 14:13

Sorry but I agree with her.

Why would you open a can to take one sip then leave it? That's so rude and wasteful!

Cans aren't cheap either.

This. If you were thirsty but only wanted a sip of something OP why not just get a drink of water? You behaved like a spoilt child so her speaking to you as one was justified.

InTheRainOnATrain · 26/07/2024 14:17

It was an off the cuff snappy comment after a late night drinking and probably a shit nights sleep that she’s now said sorry for. And tbh she wasn’t wrong because it was a waste. Get over it and reply ‘no problem, thanks for having us’ would be my advice.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutt · 26/07/2024 14:17

I absolutely hate it when people do this- cans cost so much money. You take it, you drink it! You’re at fault and your friend shouldn’t have apologised

SummerSummeySun · 26/07/2024 14:16

Ew when someone else has had their mouth around the can @Wishimaywishimight

BodenCardiganNot · 26/07/2024 14:16

I’m just so annoyed that she spoke to me like a child.

Why are you annoyed? She was right. You won't do it again will you.

SpudleyLass · 26/07/2024 14:16

That would have been pretty wasteful, OP.

SummerSummeySun · 26/07/2024 14:16

Unless this is a ....dundundunnnnn

Reverse....
