Perhaps women aren't cut out to be on the front line?

Footage of the female officers at the attempted assassination of Trump, and of the scenes at Manchester Airport makes me think that perhaps we're not best suited in those situations.

Would those four violent men have dared attack male officers in the same way?

I always think the bottom line is, who would you want to carry you down the ladder from a burning building, a beefy fireman or a somewhat less beefy firewoman? I'm a dyed-in-the-wool feminist, but I know which I'd choose.

I was injured in an accident and could not get up off the floor.

The incredible female paramedic who lifted me up made it look as easy as though she was picking up her handbag. She was very petite and I am absolutely not. Training, skill and technique are probably more use than 'beefy'.

Being a fit soldier didn't help the Lt Col attacked yesterday in Kent did it?

I don't believe work like that plays into women's strong point at all

Did you notice that the PO who kicked a prone man in the head was male? I’m pretty sure it was his male rage that drove him to doing that.
Also, the sniper who shot Trump likely didnt give a damn if he was surrounded by male or female security, and I’m almost certain that a bullet would have hurt both males and females in equal measure.

It's a free choice lots of women make to put themselves in harms way. Women come in lots of flavours from snowflake to kick arse MMA fighters.

Some of the loveliest sweet shy teens at my sons Karate class could kick the living shit out of Phil Mitchel if motivated. My big burly tattooed dh couldn't beat up a fly.

Trust me a lot of men and especially men of other sections of the community do not see women as threatening nor equal, that's just a fantasy in your head. As I stated equality has nothing to do with it, you can't change facts as you find them displeasing or sexsist.

I literally do not have enough shits to not give about your completely irrelevant comment.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 25/07/2024 15:51

Dont know about Manchester but from what I saw of the Trump thing, the woman was pivotal in making it work.

MrHarleyQuin · 25/07/2024 15:49

ATenShun · 25/07/2024 15:38

The reality in the incidents you described, is that those particular women didn't look compentent. We didn't see the full incident in Manchester so can't say if the male officer was acting in an appropriate manner. But as PP have said, on a lot of occasions a less threatening approach from a woman can de-escalate big burly guys aggression.

We don't know that the female officers were not competent in the Manchester incident, but we certain know one of their male colleagues was outrageously incompetent.

Which would lead to the equally fatuous question why are men allowed in the police?

jeaux90 · 25/07/2024 15:49

Women are on the front line for a reason. They decide to be there, they have the training to be there, society exists of men and women and any Force should reflect society.

OP you are either rather silly, a trad wife or rather fragile.

I'm a 5'7" 48 year old woman, and a fit size 12 but hardly Dwayne Johnson. Lots of people male and female find me intimidating even when I think I'm being polite and friendly, because I'm quite forthright, confident and express myself well and clearly.

It's ridiculous to say men and women don't find women intimidating. If indeed, intimidation is required as often it's more de-escalation as others have said.

If you’ve ever been anywhere near a front line you know that women are there too!

What does that have to do with what I said, I was in the first gulf war there were not many women with me.

SantaMariaMaggiore · 25/07/2024 15:44

orchiddottyback · 25/07/2024 15:43

@zoemum2006 You obviously have not served on the front line in the military like me then 🤔

That female officer in the video at Manchester airport was freaking out because she knew her male colleague was doing his Job really really badly!!!

I agree - l think she was thinking oh fuck he needs to stop doing that but she knew she couldn't stop/undermine him- she was in a very awkward situation

MrHarleyQuin · 25/07/2024 15:41

The security failure with the attempted assassination of Trump was the preparation beforehand, not how they reacted when the first shot hit him. The guy should have never been able to get on the roof or anywhere near the area. The way everyone reacted when the shots rang out seemed pretty standard.

orchiddottyback · 25/07/2024 15:35

@andsisters Fully agree with you in some circumstances.

As in on the front line within the military, Infantry and front line fighting force is no place for a woman for a whole bunch of different reasons.

The female bodyguards for Trump were woefully inadequate and should never have been placed in that role. They did not possess the adequate height, strength or skills to ensure trump was secure went down on the ground and sayed their until he was in a position to remove him from the situation.

As for police if they can pass the male physical fitness test then I have no problems, but the simple fact is that they will always antagonise male criminals who will see no authority in a female. that is not victim blaming the officers its a simple matter of fact.

Front line staff often need to have an intimidating and forceful presence when needed in some situations and no matter how you feel about equality, to criminals and people who are of that mindset I'm afraid the equality card has ZERO part to play, it's a fact and you cant discount facts because you want all things to be equal or they hurt you feelings.

Edited

Men get a lot more antagonised by other men than they do by women. Women are soooooo much better at calming things down.

Ajsjdndn · 25/07/2024 15:39

The average man is stronger than the average woman. If you deny this you are silly.

Combattingthemoaners · 25/07/2024 15:38

This is ridiculous. Male officers are attacked all of the time. Even if they were not, the answer to male-female violence isn’t to remove women from job roles they are very capable of doing.

ATenShun · 25/07/2024 15:38

Have the English schools broken up for the holidays then?

SantaMariaMaggiore · 25/07/2024 15:32

Women are hopeless at cooking. All the best chefs are men don’t you know?

Women can’t load dishwashers either, they have no spatial awareness 😞

TheFairyCaravan · 25/07/2024 14:38

Yeah, we totally belong in the kitchen!

Know your place women 🙄

some women are truly terrible cooks? what do we do with them?

FOJN · 25/07/2024 15:25

The issue with Trump's close protection detail was to do with height not sex. Secret service officers are supposed to take a bullet for the person they are protecting by using their own body to block bullets. Trump is 6'3" so average height women and shorter men would not have been able to protect his head.

I'm pissed off that the female officers were put in that position because people, like the OP, are now starting conversations about whether women are suitable for certain jobs and making snide comments about diversity hires.

Kimberley Cheadle (Director of the Secret Service) has now, rightly, resigned just was told by Republican representative Pat Fallon,in a house oversight hearing to, "go back to guarding Doritos"; a reference to her previous job. The CEO of Boeing was robustly questioned but not spoken to so rudely in a similar type of hearing but he's a man.
