To think Tattle Life gossiping is necessary?

bottomsup12 · 25/07/2024 08:29

Immediately thoughts are that it's not nice to gossip and everyone should "be kind". However, in this day and age of social media influencers etc, everyone acknowledges that people show the best bits of their life, all the ups and rarely the downsides.

We are also told to stop comparing to others on this basis as we never know what's going on behind someone's glamorous life.

Therefore, I put it to you MNers, that the b*tchiness that occurs on Tattle Life (and is IS very much so) is a necessary antidote to the fake lives we can't help comparing ourselves to.

Instead of sitting here wondering how everyone else manages to have such a great time while you're broke hardly able to pay your bills, it's reassuring to see other people cutting through the crap and pointing out the other parts of their life.

I'd argue it's a necessary by product of social media antics and the naturally occurring ying to the social media glamorous yang!

What are your thoughts?

Tattle is batshit. People wasting hours of their lives online-stalking and criticising and abusing celebrities. Madness.

Is the Reddit one connected to the Instagram one where members of tattle are being doxxed or is it different people?

As far as I can tell it's not connected. It's just Tattlers bitching about Tattle and not being especially nice about a lot of the posters and mods on there.

Any disagreement on Tattle is deleted, so saying they are nice to each other is bollocks. Also read the Tattle sub on Reddit if you want to see what they really think about each other.

I am on tattle but read only I would never post.
There is a thread about a so called influencer that I know IRL and it is surprising how these people who have never met her have got her sussed out and are happy to call out her very bad behaviour and past behaviours compared to the followers she has on her app that blindly argue with any criticism of her, it is a bit cult like.
I've never really got into any other threads so can't speak for the others but the one i follow the tattlers have got her sussed out and I can't disagree with what they say.

RenegadeMasterx · 25/07/2024 19:38

I can't believe people that hateful and bitter actually exist.
I have read it once following a tiktok video and was shocked at what I read even on the first page.
How nasty, and disgusting can people be?
Does this make them feel better about themselves?
It's horrible. What a horrible way to be and think.

Coughsweet · 25/07/2024 19:23

It all sounds really bloody unhealthy, caring so much about randoms on the internet are doing and slagging them off for it (she said somewhat ironically). I don’t think the healthy balanced option is to get really involved and then stick the boot in, it’s to get up and get on with real things in your own life. And with that am off to walk the dog.

Oh god I remeber hearing about that website too.

Lolcow mention was worth it for letting you know there are women only spaces left on the internet.

Ooh I'll look, thank you! X

The worst is when they rip into children, some of them very young. I remember Charlotte Dawson’s son being called a little ginger shit and worse and he was only two Sad

This. I think it masquerades as being a "truth telling, grifter accountability" site but actually it's just full of the kind of nasty people from school using it as an excuse to slate peoples children and appearances.

Lots of influencers think they are the bees knees. They think that everyone should aspire to be like them. They are also snooty and dismissive towards their followers, which is ironic considering their followers are the reason they earn so much money.

Given that they all think so highly of themselves and are happy to earn money in the public eye, then they should expect that people will comment on them. And as they're all so full of themselves it shouldn't bother them. If it does, they should find another job

Commenting on someone's behaviour is one thing. Ripping them to shreds is another.

Over40Overdating · 25/07/2024 18:44

@PenelopeHofstadter there are plenty of people like that in real life too. Do you follow them round the street calling them names when they go out in public ‘thinking highly of themselves’?

Much like in real life you don’t have to pay any attention to these people. You can just get on with your life. If they trigger some revulsion or insecurity in you / me - that is an us problem, not a let’s bully someone cos they make me feel bad about myself problem.

I don't remember the site but I read on here that there is a site men use to discuss the sex workers they've solicited.
I have more of an issue with that that someone calling out problematic behaviour tbh.

On tattle life they speak on the smell and shape of women's vaginas, have cringe titles for celebs it just screams "I'm a jealous insecure ugly woman" hoping to bring down another woman because I'm jealous

People have there opinions but why are you discussing what you THINK another woman vagina smells and looks like WEIRD AS FKK

"I'm a jealous insecure ugly woman" hoping to bring down another woman because I'm jealous."

And that isn't bitchy and judgemental? I added in the full stop and quotes at the end for you.

BloodandGlitter · 25/07/2024 17:48

If you think Tattle is bad you should try lolcow and men are banned from posting on there.

Reading these comments, it seems like tattle is to 21st century people what public hangings were to 15th century people.

Some are justifying it by saying it helps “take down” influencers, but I think this is missing the point others are making. We shouldn’t have influencers. There shouldn’t be all this online noise and all this investments into the lives of strangers. Crimes should be dealt with by the police. You don’t have a moral imperative to bitch about or dox or “report” stuff on a gossip website. You do it for entertainment.

I don't know if they have doxed people or reported to the police? Have they?

Over40Overdating · 25/07/2024 15:52

@CandiedPrincess I’ve never heard of Kat Farmer until today and have had a look at her tattle thread.

How is calling someone bony, haggard, flat titted, fake, alcoholic, wizened, skeletal or any of the other comments levelled at her helping her ‘downward spiral’ that tattlers are so valiantly trying to expose despite the ‘braying fan girls’?

It’s disgusting misogyny and ageism packaged as ‘keeping it real’.

What is the end game? To bully her off social media? To end her career? And then what?

Another 40/50 something woman with a social profile can be the next target for tattlers mental health help because she is vulnerable or a bit full of herself and needs a reality check on her appearance by anonymous posters who no doubt meet the beauty standards they judge other women by.

Tell yourself whatever crap you need to defend those threads but they don’t contribute anything of value and are full of grown adults who need to give their heads a shake and get a life.

Greenlittecat · 25/07/2024 15:05

periodiclabel · 25/07/2024 12:54

There's a massive difference even if you post a picture here - you do it anonymously, you do it out of your own voltion and can engage with the people who bring you down (why you'd want to do that to yourself is another issue but hey ...)

You won't be told you're a whore, your kids should be taken into custody, your husband is obviously gay and everyone hates you and have no right of reply

Yeah I totally agree! Posting pictures of myself on an anonymous forum is not for me 😅

I suppose counter argument to that is if you are putting your life out there, and exploiting your kids on social media then it's fair game for criticism.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending it and I've looked at some of the threads mentioned and the way they talk about them is disgusting BUT if you are posting videos of your kids first bath etc then I think you are opening yourself up to criticism.

That said, they shouldn't be slagging off kids AT ALL, and idk what would go through people's heads to think its acceptable.

Fullyflavoured · 25/07/2024 14:02

I agree there are good and bad posters on MN and perhaps even on Tattle, the difference is, if someone calls me a slag (insert insult of choice) on MN I have a right to reply. Tattle is one big echo chamber of bitching.

CandiedPrincess · 25/07/2024 14:02

A lot of posters on Tattle are also posters on Mumsnet so there's little point saying one is 'better' than the other because it's quite often the same people, it's just that they can say things over on Tattle that they're not allowed to say over here.

Some of the threads are a bit OTT but sometimes the 'influencers' would do well to actually listen to what is being said because there's a real falsehood with listening to the braying fangirls on Instagram which is so noticeable especially in the case of the aforementioned Kat Farmer (is the whole Kat Farmer fan club on here today as there are FAR worse threads) who is clearly on a downward spiral verging on extremely unhealthy. But. You. Musn't. Speak. Of. It.

Goodadvice1980 · 25/07/2024 13:32

I use Tattle, same as here on MN there are good and not so good posters 🤷‍♀️ Tattle is good for exposing a lot of influenza hypocrisy and unsavoury social media behaviour.

KittyWindbag · 25/07/2024 13:14

I think while there may be justifiable reasons for wanting to call out certain people for bullshit, from what I’ve seen many of the posters on tattle are absolutely unhealthily obsessed with their targets and there’s an almost masturbatory fury that they seem to revel in. Jack monroe for example. She’s a bit annoying and there are some inconsistencies in her self-told ‘story’ but those people on her sub have hundreds and hundreds of pages analysing every inch of her life picking her to pieces. She’s clearly got severe mental health issues and it is a matter of concern that they feel enabled to hound her regardless of consequences.

Caroline flack used to have disgusting things written about her on there, her pages were all deleted after she killed herself. So the website creators KNEW it was unacceptable. Yet they allow it to continue for countless others. Until the next person takes their life?
