Sickening behaviour. Surely tasering the man is enough.
He is on the floor tasered so you give him some kickings to the head?

Hope this is properly investigated.
Greater Manchester Police have an awful reputation.

Mock all you like, sweetheart.

Every single incident of police behaving unlawfully whittles away at public confidence in the insitution as a whole, which is already very low.

The full video likely has brought support for the officers

Just seeing the sheer violence they face and still turning up so others are safe

Fake news. That photo has nothing to do with the airport incident.

Yes how very horrid for the police to be undermining themselves when faced with a brutal assault. Please will someone book them onto the undermining course stat.

@eggplant16 what is stupid? That I can’t help the fact I’ve never met a Muslim woman who’s condoned violence against other women? How is that stupid?

Have you run into many non Muslim women with whom you have had the same conversation?

You do know Muslim women move amongst us. They are just going about their business, working, busy and so on. How ridiculous some of the assumptions are.

MoosakaWithFries · 28/07/2024 16:09

Gummybear23 · 28/07/2024 11:37

Well there should.
In 22/23 nineteen of the 23 people arrested who died in police custody and had some use of force used against were white.

Although the use of force did not necessarily contribute to all the deaths but did some.

The use of force should never contribute to anyone's death.

You can die from being tasered - rare but people have.

If you had some guy running towards you with a machete and an officer about to taser them, would you ask the officer to kindly stop just in case?

Police need to use force. It will, regrettably and on occasions result in someones death.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 28/07/2024 16:05

Starting pay £28k?

Working nights and weekends?

Chance of getting your head kicked in and if you strike back, a whole Internet of armchair experts dissect your every move, second by second in slo-mo and pass judgement?

Chance of going to prison?

It's a no from me.

So I'll start by saying that the officer had lost control of his emotions and his reaction was disgusting and should be duly punished ....... however! Have we all seen the footage of what transpired before the clip we all saw of him kicking the guy on the floor? The situation was totally out of control , the two guys went from zero to 100 instantly , the level of their aggression was appalling. Some of you explain to me how you control a situation like that without physical force ? I will reiterate that I think the officers actions were totally wrong but can we at least acknowledge that the situation leading up to the assault by him was explosive and happened in a matter of seconds. Police officers do an incredibly difficult job one that I wouldn't want to do and whilst the officer acted abhorrently shall we look at the behaviour of the two men who were the catalyst for the whole episode ?

I wouldn’t even say that the officer acted abhorrently, given the context of the savage attacks on him and his colleagues which preceded his response. It all happened so fast.

Following on I am not doing victims of crime a disservice.
They should get justice from our judicial system.
I do not see as acceptable that we can beat up criminals because they deserve it.

We have a judicial system in this country who will administer the appropriate punishment.

It is a police protocol. I listened to a police interview today and the officer said that if a suspect is resisting to put their arms behind their back (like in the video - the guy just lays there with arms by his side and doesn’t put them behind his back) this, as per protocol, threatens a police officer as the suspect can easily reach for the officer’s gun.

You can only question if it is acceptable use of power if you have familiarised yourself with protocols and, most importantly, why these protocols exist.

another protocol is to shoot anyone on the spot if your fellow police officer’s weapon has been taken by non authorised personnel. And yes, these protocols keep us all safe. Questioning these protocols makes us all vulnerable.

Fair point.

Gummybear23 · 28/07/2024 15:35

Hateam · 28/07/2024 15:08

Do you believe the judicial system (that you clearly have great faith in) delivers justice for women?

No it does not and that needs to be challenged.

Equally it does not mean that law enforcers can act unlawfully because they feel the judicial system won't deliver the correct punishment.

Matronic6 · 28/07/2024 15:18

I think the now released CCTV video of proceeding events provides a lot of context for what happened.

I don't believe what the officer did at that point was necessary and could have been handled better. But it is very easy to say that as someone watching all the videos post events. The officer is still just human dealing with what was now clearly a very volatile situation.

His actions were far from ideal but I don't think they were racist.

IClaudine · 28/07/2024 15:17

MyGladEagle · 28/07/2024 14:42

But that's simply not true.

If you were outraged about innocents being murdered you wouldn't be questioning the police's actions when confronted with a violent attacker who could have easily murdered one of those police officers had they landed on their heads after he punched them.

You're also doing a disservice to the hundreds of innocents killed each year by thugs like the one in the video ,by undermining the people paid to protect us for no good reason.

Really? How many people do you think would have heard of Geoege Floyd if it had not been a white cop who killed him.?

I think it’s easy to muse from the safety of mn posts rather than know what it’s like to face the heavy violence officers had just faced

'Asking for whatever comes there way'

Is not acceptable.

Noone should be an armed police officer with that form of mentality.
Of course those committing crime should be held accountable.

The judicial system is the place for this not the bottom of an officer's boot.

The judicial system was not there, those officers were on their own, fighting for their lives, they were all injured. I thank them for their service.

ForeveraBluebird · 28/07/2024 15:05

The judicial system won’t be much use if a weapon had been taken and fired by someone prepared to grapple with armed officers though would it.

Gummybear23 · 28/07/2024 15:00

Savemydrink · 28/07/2024 14:56

No we wouldn’t all be at risk, because we don’t attack police officers who are doing their jobs. Anyone who physically attacks an armed police officer in an airport is just asking for whatever comes their way.

But I will question when unreasonable force or there is abuse of power.
Public servants should be held accountable.
If we are not allowed to question what we see as bad pratice we would all be at risk.
