Sickening behaviour. Surely tasering the man is enough.
He is on the floor tasered so you give him some kickings to the head?

Hope this is properly investigated.
Greater Manchester Police have an awful reputation.

There is another video showing when the violence - yes, violence - began and the police 100% started. They sprayed a man in the face whilst he was recording them and the men all had their hands up, no one was raising a finger at the police. The elderly woman was also hit in the face by police.

It is sickening.

You have no idea what has already happened. DH is a police officer and over the years members of the public scream and shout shrike the police are arresting someone not realising that around the corner the person being arrested had mugged an old lady or similar.

These people are often known to the police and the police react knowing exactly what that person is capable of.

When the CCTV footage is shown (if ever) people will change their tunes.

It's still irrelevant.at the time the man was kicked and stamp he was on the floor.
Whatever he did before needs to be dealt with by the courts

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 25/07/2024 22:11

The behaviour from the police was not on. They are trained to behave better, as they themselves commented. So shut up yourself @user1492729177 .

user1492729177 · 25/07/2024 22:01

Oh for goodness sake they broke a colleagues nose by kicking, what would you do, stand by and tell them they were naughty? Get a grip. We need to protect our police or we won’t have any and we will live in a lawless society. If you feel so strongly about it, join up and take the absolute shit that they do. If not, shut up.

There was no hierarchy to the points.

I guess you agree that it's ok for the police to beat people up.

The 70s called.

You don’t need to guess, I stated I was reserving judgment!

I’m a 70’s generation X so maybe they did call! Wow!

EsmaCannonball · 25/07/2024 21:55

Also, call me old-fashioned, but I do think it is worse if a male suspect punches a female police officer. It's much less of a fair fight and she is much more likely to be badly hurt. One wonders what these men were up to to react in such an extreme way.

I reiterate, I do not think it was ok to kick and stamp on the one suspect's head.

cakeorwine · 25/07/2024 21:54

Elle7 · 25/07/2024 21:53

Do you agree that first and foremost men should not beat women up?! You made this point 2 in your comment!

I’m reserving my judgment right now with the police incident.

In fact - why not just keep kicking him?
Just in case.
Kick the shit out of him.
Kick his head in.

I guess there are some people on here who would have no issue with that.

But he didn't though did he? Not that the first kick was justified, but there were many actions and decisions made in split seconds here by all parties, some helpful and some not.
Personally, I would say the suspects decisions to attack multiple people and continue to resist arrest by armed police at an airport is by far the worst set of decisions made.

I ABSOLUTELY do understand that, number one should be…

1.MEN should NOT beat WOMEN up!

It's insane that people expect extreme violence to be met with gentleness from armed police at an airport, isn't it 😂

Maybe he should have just shot him on the ground.

Just in case?

Would that have been ok for you? Or is that a bit too much?

Shoyden · 25/07/2024 21:46

Laurahenry · 25/07/2024 21:45

Exactly , judging the situation from a short, clearly edited clip. They were violent to Police, broke a nose were spitting pulling hairs etc but none of that shown. I'm glad the police are finally having a backbone against these violent people

Lei me be clear, I won't.

Proving the men were violent, acted like scumbags, grabbed for weapons, unprovoked walked up to the officer and broke her nose has absolutely no bearing on my opinion on what the officer did to the man on the ground.
They are almost completely irrelevant to me.

I am not basing my position on the men arrested being innocent or pure of the driven snow, so it is not in anyway a premise of how I view the actions of the officer that I will have to walk back on.

The officer acted out of anger and wanting to inflict pain, not out of safety or deescalation or self defence. He was channeling connery in the untouchables. And it may be understandable, and it may be relatable if you've seen someone close to you subjected to violence but it's illegal and excessive use of force when the threat has been neutralised.

If I was attacked unprovoked with a bat and suffered a broken nose, and the police arrived and arrested him. If I walked over when they had him pinned on the ground and asked if I could maybe boot him full force in the jaw and then stamp on the back of his head they wouldn't shrug and go "yeah, seems about right" they'd tell me that while they'd like to let me they'd then have to arrest be because they know it would be illegal.

Edited

You can't say with absolute certainty that he acted our of anger. It I'd hard to imagine these situations from the comfort of watching then on a screen, especially if you've never experienced a similar situation. These officers are trained to neutralise threats in an airport setting, and just because the man was kn the floor doesn't mean he was neutralised, given that he previously attacked not only ticketing staff but the police that were called. People believe tazers are 100% effective in all cases because of movies but in reality they are prone to not working with egfect a large amount of the time due to where they are placed etc etc. Was he within his rights to kick his head? No. But do I fully blame him, given that the events leading up to this were extremely chaotic and unpredictable? Also no, I don't think it's a good outcome but I also think there is a LOT of room to consider that any person would struggle to make desicions in this situation.

JacquesHarlow · 24/07/2024 22:50

hmm @Gummybear23 it’s fine to watch a 12 second clip and make judgements, but did you also read this:

”During our response, three officers were assaulted. One female officer suffered a broken nose and the other officers were forced to the ground and suffered injuries which required hospital treatment.”

Do you know what it takes to subdue an unruly suspect who has attacked multiple officers and hospitalised one?

Perhaps some of the keyboard protesters who weirdly open a thread to get everyone piling in (excuse the allusion) could ask themselves what preceded this footage, and what does it take to subdue someone who has been that violent and belligerent in the lead up?

Exactly , judging the situation from a short, clearly edited clip. They were violent to Police, broke a nose were spitting pulling hairs etc but none of that shown. I'm glad the police are finally having a backbone against these violent people

I feel sorry for the police officer.

Why? Not being goady, honestly want to understand.

Realduchymarmalade · 25/07/2024 21:41

I feel sorry for the police officer.

EsmaCannonball · 25/07/2024 21:40

No, I do not think it is remotely ok to kick and stamp on the head of a suspect who is already subdued.

As for the rest of it, the fact that this happened at an airport and involved armed officers complicates things. The suspects violently resisted arrest at a location where the police are on heightened alert for terrorist activity and armed officers have to be ruthless in ensuring that resisting suspects cannot make a grab for their gun.

I think that officer was obviously in the wrong but also think it is a bad idea to fuck about with the police at airports and if the suspects behaved as alleged they are not exactly sympathetic.

IClaudine · 25/07/2024 21:36

Shoyden · 25/07/2024 21:25

When the CCTV footage is shown (if ever) people will change their tunes.

I won't change my tune.

The man might be a complete scumbag, but the police need to have restraint and discipline enough not to kick and stamp on the heads of people who are lying face down on the floor and not posing an immediate threat. That sort of behaviour does nothing to enhance the public's faith in the police and can never be justified.

Realduchymarmalade · 25/07/2024 21:35

I feel more upset for the female police officers who were assaulted, including the one with a broken nose. Goodness knows what would have happened to them if the male police officers hadn’t arrived.

FranceIsWhereItsAt · 25/07/2024 21:35

Having watched this on the news at lunchtime I just couldn't see ANY justification for this officer's behaviour, and the fact that he was carrying a gun makes it even worse, I guess the guy on the ground was lucky he didn't shoot him! The officer's behaviour was barbaric in my opinion. If a group of yobs kicked a lad in the head when he was already on the pavement, they would get hefty prison sentences, but they're already coming up with excuses. In my opinion THERE IS NO EXCUSE!!

livelovelough24 · 25/07/2024 21:31

I am very surprised to see how many people think this is actually ok. Violence should only be used to subdue a violent person. This man was already on the floor, face down, when the officer kicked and then stomped on his head. This is WRONG.
