My 7 yr old DD has the dreaded chicken pox ( she’s on day 5) but still absolutely covered. Half of his class are out cos of this

Tomorrow is my DS’s year 6 graduation and there is no one I can call to babysit ( that’s even if they would want to )

I can’t take her there as I would be exposing other kids but at the same time how can I miss my sons grad?

im torn . I plan to be on video call with her while there and the school is just down the road , a 2 min walk

not sure what I can do ?

Not at 7 no. I'd only leave them for a short period of time around 11 or so.. what a predicament though, I'm sure your son will understand if you miss it if you really don't have anyone else to watch her

At 11, I was having to navigate the 1 hour journey home from school myself. I'd have found it very hard if that was the first time Id been responsible for myself.

Graduation from Y6 is not a thing. Sorry you are going to have to stay home with your sick child. Either get a friend or relative to go to the graduation or you will have to miss it.

I've left mine at that age with an older sibling and would now they're 10, but I do think 7 might be a bit young. Have you asked them? They might not want to be left?

Is there a good neighbour who could pop round for 30m whilst you nip up to school?

Otherwise find out if there are any plans to video it

I'm so sorry OP, I just couldnt/wouldn't risk it. Talk to your eldest and explain, you sadly will miss graduation.
Do school not record it?

Honestly OP it's a dreadful situation but you cannot leave a seven year old home alone. Especially not a sick one.

Can someone else go to the graduation for you, other parent, or other family member like or aunt or uncle or grandparent. I had to miss a lot of school things due to my work but luckily my parents could go if I couldn’t.

I wouldn't leave her at home and think in the car is even worse. If it's 2min away why would op be driving anyway?
Can your dh take leave for a bit? Awful predicament to be in. Or someone who could watch her but stay outside your home, in the garden maybe?

mitogoshi · 24/07/2024 13:18

No i wouldn't, just one of those things. Can't their other parent help?

ItssssAMeMariooo92 · 24/07/2024 13:17

Can you take her and keep her in the car?

I have a 7 year old and there's no way I would leave him alone
