Our business has passed an important audit so we ordered dominos for lunch.
Enough dominos pizza to give everyone 1/2 a pizza each and sides and drinks.

Total cost was £450.

One of the senior managers just had to have a word with one of the other senior leadership team that putting 3 entire pizzas, sides and a drink in his car because 'he wanted to take it home for his family and would freeze the leftovers' isn't appropriate when the admin staff haven't even had chance to get any pizza yet.

Our work generally have No issues with people taking leftovers but not when other people haven't even had lunch yet!!

Anyone else work with cheeky bastards?

Oh another one, though not sure this classes as a CF. We were recruiting for someone to work in my team, managed by me. Every single candidate was asking for at least the same salary I was on as a minmum, including newly graduated people whereas I had 2 decades of experience. The guy they ended up taking on was actually paid about £3k MORE than me, and when I pointed this out to my boss he muttered something like what they paid me didn't reflect how much they valued me. And there was me thinking that that was exactly what pay reflected, silly me!

Then they cut a layer of management (mine), then 6 months later added one above me & the other former team managers. In the interim, we'd had the annual pay rounds and I'd been given a moderate (if that) rise. Somewhat unimpressed, I found another job & resigned. My new boss at the time was actually a lovely woman and said she understood completely. The HoD was on holiday when I handed in my notice then I was on holiday when he came back. When nice new boss told him I was leaving, with his head in his hands he asked what they would need to do to keep me. She took great glee in telling him it would take another £8K a year and my old level back before I'd even consider it. When she told me afterwards, she said she'd told him that because she knew the new higher salary I would be on and how angry I'd been at what I'd seen as a demotion for me and others at my level. She'd also seen the results of a customer (internal) survey of my department, and I'd been praised to the skies and was almost the only person the project teams actually knew by name or recognised in the office from my area, and that she'd tried to push for a big rise for me but had been ignored.

This was the company that was successful based on it's genius tech guys, but when there were share options the techs were given about 1/4 of the options offered to the sales team - who had 4 tied in clients between them who were all shareholders.

It's a very poor example of 'sarcasm'.

This is MN, not the Times Literary Supplement or the New Yorker.

@StillAngryYearsLater

At that point, I realised the absolute inequality of opportunity in society. That the 'left' elite are just as smug and complacent as the right.

What's that got to do with the 'left elite', whatever that is?

A club I was part of had a dinner dance to celebrate a special occasion and the committee had commissioned engraved wine glasses to mark the occasion and put one out at each place setting. During the dancing some members went round sweeping them up to get a set of the glasses, fully aware that would mean stealing them from other members. Awful behaviour. The committee announced an amnesty for the glasses but virtually none came back.

Secondary school one. Y10 options.

I worked in a department of 5. A practical subject with several related subject areas.

A couple of us noticed that one of us always had more than her fair share of nice /easy to teach pupils. Whilst a 'girls' subject you'd expect a few more boys to be in the group. My and colleagues groups were somewhat polarised - either pupils really keen to do the subject as well as more than our fair share of the headbangers.

The departmental policy was that if a subject was oversubscribed then places would go to those who had made a decent effort in Y9. not just academic prowess (or blond hair)

Every year the HOD sorted the options - with her 'helping'. She was of a domineering nature.
One year he was off ill and we all had to sort out the options - as a 4 some.

Much fairer - but still not quite right. We found out that she'd have a word in those pupils she didn't want to see again in Y10's ears when they were in Y9.

"Don't pick my subject because I won't have you" So to an extent her groups were self selecting.

She got better results, it was the rest of us having to see the Head every September to explain our poorer results.

Hard to prove this - but we knew it happened.

So later when I was HOD I'd have all Y9 together at option time. I'd talk about fairness, free to choose what ever you want, you don't have to be good at a subject to get that option - just to have tried. A bit better but still a bit of a bias - she was unpleasant to those she didn't want with her in Y10 and 11.

At my old job we were all working on Easter Sunday and I bought everyone a full size Easter egg each, given out in our midday briefing meeting.

Two of my team couldn't get to the meeting so I said I'd bring the eggs up to them, at the end of the meeting I caught one woman putting three eggs in her locker. I said "It's only one per person, those are for Alex and Ben" and she stuck her bottom lip out and said "That's not fair, I can't go home with just one egg I have three children".

I left that job two years ago now but it still pisses me off 😂

I'm quite petty so I'd have cheerfully said 'oh dear, you're right, that won't do at all'. And taken all three from her. Problem solved. Now no eggs for anybody.

Enjoying all these stories keep em coming. Racking my brains to contribute

Local authority dept head used to come in at 10, leave at 3.30 and take an hour for lunch every day. His argument was that he had to commute and it took him ages. If his secretary organised a meeting for 2pm he'd bollock her because there was a chance of it overrunning and encroaching on his 3.30 clock out.

Also worked for a charity, head of fundraising applied for a bunch of grants and put the money into his personal account. He was at least got rid of, although they let him resign and didn't prosecute.

Worked in a school, head teacher, deputy and chair of governors also diverted funds into their own pockets. All resigned and no one was prosecuted.

Went to work in another school, private this time, people paid a fair whack to go there. Deputy Head turned out to be a massive nonce, had cameras rigged up around the school that he sat and watched from home, all sorts.

Bloody hell

WestendVBroadway · 24/07/2024 21:21

@S1lverCandle @ToxicChristmas . At the time I mentioned to CF that the left over food was going to be used up the next day for all staff to enjoy, but no one else said anything at the time, though they soon slagged CF off when they had gone. This is the same CF that complained that there was no milk for their tea one morning because I had a hospital appointment and came in late, so had not yet put my personal 2 pints in the staff fridge.

StillAngryYearsLater · 24/07/2024 21:18

I have named changed for this because I have told a few people about this.

I worked for a company that ran the cleaning contract at a really exclusive London school. We were invited to a charity quiz night. It was hosted by a left wing comedian who had children at exclusive school.

Charity auction with some really expensive prizes, think a weeks stay in luxury ski lodge etc etc. The prize that went for the most money was a week's work experience on BBC Radio 4 today show. At that point, I realised the absolute inequality of opportunity in society. That the 'left' elite are just as smug and complacent as the right.

It still makes me feel cross.

rainydays8766 · 24/07/2024 21:17

Not my story but once overheard someone on the train saying that her managers had been bigging up a bonus for hard working staff and were promoting colleagues in the team to do overtime and having a 'big push'. Managers wouldn't reveal what the bonus would be but everyone assumed it was a cash bonus and so staff on the team were rising to it and coming in early, etc. Anyway, it turned out to be a 'wear your own clothes day'

Ghost2 · 24/07/2024 21:16

OP, please tell me you work at a company beginning with H?

If not that's an amazing coincidence

Greendoorsaremyfavourite · 24/07/2024 21:01

We had a manager that was well known for micromanaging and generally being rude and unreasonable with her team. One Christmas she took an extended lunch, came back drunk & ended up rolling around the floor. She got reported and disciplined, but was more concerned about who snitched on her.

Snowpaw · 24/07/2024 21:00

I used to write reports with a colleague - we both had our own parts to add to them and then her job was to send them out once done and move them out of the "current work" folder, so we knew they were done. We all had access to the same file system so the workflow was transparent to everyone, including our boss. At the end of each week she would always seem to be on top of her workload while I was drowning in what was a very busy small business. I discovered one day she'd made a secret folder, unnamed and buried deep in somewhere you wouldn't expect to find it. She was moving work into it so that it looked like it had been done and sent out, but really she was behind and just didn't want my boss to be able to see the extent of her backlog. Pissed me right off and I confronted her about it. She got very defensive and turned it around on me, accusing me of checking up on her, it being none of my business and why was I acting like I was in charge of her etc. She was nasty about it.

She knew that I knew, and that was enough. She stopped doing it and eventually was fired around this time due to a build up of other things, e.g. taking job interviews during company hours while pretending she was working from home.

hilariousnamehere · 24/07/2024 20:55

Love this thread! For some reason the one that stands out as most annoying to me was being asked to come in earlier despite a 2 hour each way train commute, "because X lives two train stations from you and he's here at 6.30am every day!".

X was on a base salary of £350k to my £30k, had a company chauffered car to get him in at that hour, and he got a bonus and dividends also in six figures every year - my bonus was £1k. Appreciated but really not in the same league. Explained that when they paid me 10 to 20 times my current salary over the year including bonuses I'd consider getting in at the same time as X. Manager who asked seemed genuinely surprised at my reasoning - and I left not long after 😂

It was fifteen years ago and the CF expectation still winds me up!

But there's always one snartarse in a thread of mostly pleasant posts.

I had just assumed that if @PreciousMahoney wasn't allowed to take the points, then that was company policy. Either nobody gets the points, the points go to the company to put against later trips, or the points go to whoever made that journey. NOT that all the points went to one greedy fucker who hadn't made the majority of the trips and hadn't done the bookings either.

Astrabees · 24/07/2024 20:47

I worked for a charity with a royal patron Every Christmas our patron sent an enormous box of exquisite chocolates and all the staff got about 5 chocolates each. A new head manager was appointed and the next year I saw the box in her office but none of us were ever given one again. I was presented to the said royal on several occasions after this and I always had an itching desire to tell her my boss scoffed the lot each year .

Reminds me of the thread a little back where greedy fucker went out for a meal with his team and splashed out on wine and steak etc, and expected the bill to be split including some admin staff who only had salads.

OP called him out on it and he got the right hump, was a great read and well done to the OP.

This was such a good read!

AvrielFinch · 24/07/2024 20:37

@Sethera I don’t much like pepperoni either but we do flag that the veggies won’t have any food if everyone eats the veggie.

As a meat eater I would not have any pizza either if the choice was only pepperoni.

Piper1983 · 24/07/2024 20:32

Work in the NHS. Our manager watches our annual leave like a hawk. Docking us 10/15 mins if we are late or family emergency.
every year for the last 6 or 7 she has taken about 55 days annual leave when we are entitled to 33 which she writes in the diary in pencil and then rubs out.
She’s been reported to the fraud team but it appears she has got away with it as retiring in October

It was literally the most relevant detail!

And I really don’t think I’m the one being unpleasant here.

MrsToothyBitch · 24/07/2024 20:29

I used to run the tea fund. Someone smugly admitted to using the brew kit without paying in. Not realising that the guy he told liked me more than he liked the smugger. I handed the brew fund over to the guy he told, on the spot. Smugger was forced to pay as the new tea fund runner knew his dirty secret.

Same job, I coincidentally ordered a large stock of loo roll just before covid. We all got sent home over the pandemic. A few people came in on a rota to do a solo day. When we all came back, someone had thieved 300+ loo rolls.

When I worked in retail my first boss was fired for stealing out the till. Same lady used to sell her old season stuff from our brand online and pinch the distinctive mail bags we had to send items out.

The worst though, was my ex colleague who was also the Assistant Manager. She would call in sick for days at the slightest, undetectable to anyone else hint of a sniffle but would be very ungracious and disbelieving if anyone called in sick on her duty day. She'd be vile on the phone to them and roll her eyes afterwards.

We had a first come first served holiday booking system and the manager and I had no holidays because of her. She'd book off as many weekend days as possible and so we'd give up trying to book a decent fortnight off as she wouldn't ever relinquish them. She was within her rights but she overlooked quite how much resentment she caused.

I never worked boxing day due to transport issues. I worked Christmas eve, all of new years basically every other day going to show willing in return. This cow tried to bully me into swapping with her so she had it off as we walked home on Dec23rd. I got glares and evils when I refused. I was ruining what may be grandads last Christmas. She pouted when I pointed out that I had a granny in the same boat and an older father... and still no way of getting in on boxing day. What got me was that she was so expectant. Genuinely amazed that I wouldn't do as she asked. Her whole family took the piss tbf - her mum booked her a surprise holiday and said nothing to us until she'd sent her on it!

The ballsiest move she ever pulled though was the Disney on ice debacle. We're in the SE of England. Months of her getting excited to see DoI. On a Saturday, obviously. The week before, she reveals it's not in London. They've booked to go to Birmingham- for a day out. The day before she reveals it's the evening show and she'll be back too late and be far too tired to work the next day - as she walks out the door. Sneaky bitch. Unsurprisingly when she took ill with a bug at work, neither of us answered her summons for relief so she had to just stay there & shit herself until someone from another branch answered the call. I was sadly in a location with no signal...

I went to a party at a colleague’s house once. I thought “These glasses look suspiciously familiar…” They were all from our office, as was all his cutlery! 😆

I actually had the same glasses and cutlery as our office - pure coincidence, from ikea!

when they cleared out the office they gave me the office ones as they knew they’d match my stuff 🤣
