Travelled to friend's house for dinner, just strawberries for desert - AIBU to think it's low effort?

On the weekend my partner and I travelled to a friend's house for dinner. The journey was over an hour by train.

The main course was sausages with nice sides (potato salad, tomato salad, another salad). That was nice.

But desert was just strawberries with some pouring cream.

We had a nice time, but AIBU to feel that the desert was very low effort and unexciting, and should have been more exciting than strawberries given the journey?

When my friend came to mine, I did a 3-course meal, feeling I should make a big effort because of her long journey.

Isnt it about seeing your friends rather than the food on offer? Strawberries are perfect for summer!

Sounds like a nice summer meal that is capable of being prepared in advance. Then you can sit and talk longer rather than your friend being in the kitchen all the time.

Maybe they thought you were going for the company and evening out rather than haute cuisine

Well I don't have high expectations
I'd be very happy with most meals someone makes for me to be honest. Even if they're simple

Wow. DH always tells me I stress too much about dinner for guests and they are coming for the company not for super impressive food.

Sounds like in some cases it really is all about the super impressive food 🤷‍♀️

I thought that was a really nice meal. Do you judge everything else about her as well.....?

That sounds like a weird thing to pick on. Strawberries and cream are expensive and delicious, as well as being low processing.
Personally I visit friends if I want, and don't expect to be fed in relation to journey,!

I don't think strawberries and cream had anything to be ashamed of as a dessert.

Do her a favor and don’t bother going again. How rude of you to think let alone post that.

I think sausages and salad sounds low effort as well. I'd have been disappointed with the whole meal!
