To not understand why my mum ( or anyone ) needs to sunbathe topless ?

I'm staying with mum and my two kids at a holiday cottage. It's private so no one can see, but I still don't get why she or anyone feels the need to sunbathe topless ? I would just never do it and it makes me a bit uncomfortable to be around people who sunbathe topless.

I get it I get it, not everyone is like me.

But why do your boobs need to be brown ?

She also insists on wearing a bikini at almost 70. Ok fine, I don't wear a bikini and I'm not even 40 yet. I do think, good for you but I do think one pieces are just more classy. Same with having everything on display.

I realise I sound mean spirited don't I ? Or just uptight ? But isn't more, less and more classy in general ? Interested in opinions !

She raised me so I'm surprised I am not more on display myself but I'm pretty private about my body and always have been.

If more mens torsos resembled the ones in Vikings of Valhalla then there would certainly be more ogling!

Wexone · 19/07/2024 15:42

I agree with you totally, there is a time and place, Nothing wrong with seeing a naked body and all, but grandkids do not need to see their grannys boobs. She can wear a bikini all she wants knock herself out, but no need to go topless.

My grandma wore a bikini into her 80s. What’s the problem with a bikini 🤷‍♀️

Nothing

thefamous5 · 19/07/2024 15:41

@Allfur

Yes...and?

Vulva is a sexual organ. Men also cover their sexual organs. Men don't have to cover their top half though.

Towelmode · 19/07/2024 15:41

I don’t think toes are sexualised in quite the same way as boobs but maybe toe implants are a thing!

LegendInMyOwnLunchtime · 19/07/2024 15:36

What if they ogle your legs? Or your swimsuit covered bum? Or even your cleavage if you wear a bikini or swimsuit? What if they are a toe fetishist?

I’d call them out either way if I saw it happening, but as I say I won’t be giving them an opportunity to look at my breasts for free.

It sounds like a you problem.

There's nothing wrong with bikinis, whatever age. I've been topless before and damn right I'd do it again. Boobs are a body part. My kids have seen my boobs when I've breastfed and they know it's literally a body part. No one has a fit of the vapours seeing men's chests. If my mum did it, good on her!

Vulva is also part of the body

I would never go topless on a beach, I don’t want men getting satisfaction from ogling my breasts…especially for free. 😂

No one needs to.

Some people want to, and given it's a private spot why shouldn't they?

Because her daughter and grandkids probably don’t want to see her baps?

pack it in and let your mum do what she wants. Whinging about her isn't classy of you.

WhereYouLeftIt · 19/07/2024 15:31

Your mum's 70, so born 1954 and her twenties were in the 1970s. That was peak time for topless sunbathing, I did so myself in the early 1980s. It was considered completely normal then. no strap marks from a bikini so I could wear anything I pleased when out at night; strapless, halter, one shoulder - fashion was very varied back then compared to now. And as has been said by others, the sense of freedom on the beach was brilliant.

I'm inclined to think that many of our attitudes are set in our teens and twenties, so for your mum, topless sunbathing was the norm in her twenties and she still considers it completely normal.

You don't see how "I don’t want to be looking at some random woman sexually, but Jesus Christ, if there’s a shapely young woman walking on a beach with her full, luscious breasts completely uncovered…" is creepy?
All your missing is the Homer Simpson drooling gif.

If you feel 'shamed' by being called creepy, don't act so fucking creepy.

Exactly this.

Username1010 · 19/07/2024 15:11

You’d better tell the majority of women on the continent that wearing a bikini isn’t classy in your eyes.

Your post made me laugh. You sound like such a prude. It’s really sad that you are embarrassed by seeing skin.

What do you do when changing after swimming Are you one of the people who draws more attention to yourself by clutching your towel around you to avoid being ‘seen’.

Meganmeccano · 19/07/2024 15:09

YABU, most men sunbathe topless all the time.

CatamaranViper · 19/07/2024 15:08

YankSplaining · 19/07/2024 14:09

If I was a creep, I’d be ogling openly, not feeling uncomfortable. You’re seriously a bisexual woman, trying to shame another bisexual woman for finding naked breasts attractive?!

I was responding to a specific comment about whether breasts are sexual, not the entire post.

Ah ok I didn't know it was about the freedom thing. You mean like when you take your bra off at the end of the day and just feel ' free ' ?

I love swimming in the pool naked. I wear a 2 piece, I also sunbath (carefully) naked.

I never would have done any of this in the past (I'm at an age where I DGAF now and I am the size I am, covering up won't change that), and I won't in public, considering I'm fat but we have privacy and there's nothing better than being naked in the sun/in water. I do wear a sunhat though to protect my face. Its much better than having a swimming costume on.

LlynTegid · 19/07/2024 15:06

No one needs to be. No one needs to be in a holiday cottage denying a local person a house at a reasonable cost.

Your mum and others choose to be topless, and if sitting in an enclosed garden then that is OK.

Boobs are just boobs, get over it. And personally I don’t understand why people take out finance to buy a flash car they can’t afford to pay cash for - but people do. Could it be that people are different and make different lifestyle choices? That they choose things that they want instead of always things they need? Feeling sorry for your mother being remorselessly judged on her holidays by the prude she has raised!

Boobs are just boobs?

Leaving aside the function of feeding a baby -

Do you get sexual pleasure from your partner touching your boobs?

Does your partner get sexual pleasure from your boobs?

If the answer to either of these questions is yes, you have the answer as to why people find looking at boobs a sexual turn on, whether they are in a magazine or on the beach.

A man's bare chest bears no relation to a woman's bare chest.

Thanks for the factual correction.

Again: Quote the part where I said women should have to cover up on beaches. And, again: What is it that you think I’m doing?! I see topless women, it’s awkward, I look away. Is there something else I’m supposed to do?

Your last paragraph was pervy and gross. Your argument is that women need to realise how sexual their breasts are and that having them out means people like you feel uncomfortable. You’re putting your issues onto women. It’s unpleasant for women to read that they cannot be topless without you thinking things about ‘luscious’ breasts.. You can keep arguing, but it is unpleasant.

aghak · 19/07/2024 15:02

But this place isn't private. OP and her kids have granny's tits in their faces.

Hahaha. It's fine honestly. I am just totally weird about stuff like that. I am a prude when it comes to my body. Other stuff, not so much.

mathanxiety · 19/07/2024 14:59

I'd never do it myself, but chacun a son gout.

Towelmode · 19/07/2024 14:59

It's generational. My parents (70s) see a tan as a status symbol. They both sunbathe in nothing or next to nothing because they don't want tan lines. They do it in anything from 16 degrees plus. They are both the colour of old boots.

This is my parents 😆😆 happy to bake for hours in minimal clothing to get an amazing tan. I rebelled against the above and tend to stay out of the sun.

I haven’t said I’m bisexual, it was another person who said they were bisexual and thought you were gross, not me. I have no homophobic tendencies, don’t make this about sexual preference it isn’t, it’s about the fact that you, like many man, apparently can’t control your sexual urges so you think women should cover up. Sort yourself out.

Thanks for the factual correction.

Fine in a private place. Or on a beech where it's allowed/the norm.

But this place isn't private. OP and her kids have granny's tits in their faces.
